Mpiana left with the whole of the band, Werra Managed to create Maison Merre, which was a force to reckon, then Bill, Fere, DJT left and he bounced back with Alert Generally, lest we forget Adolph and Masala. There are countless of Musicians in Congo who are dreaming to join Maison Mere. It is only that JB and Werra are now doing music mostly for passion. Otherwise no one can match their success among the current crop of musicians.

He is a singer, he can live through mabanga and matolo. But a Mbonda-player can’t do mabanga and they aren’t respected, even those “ba bureau” who aren’t even band members are more respected than mbonda-players.

Nah. It is not that. People think Congo is a normal country but it is the poorest country in Central Africa. Only Central Africa is worse. If you go in South Africa, Angola, Gabon, Camerun, Tanzania, Uganda, Btoswana and especially Rwanda _which is iromic) everything is better than in Congo DR. In Congo eating is a matter of chance and you must always remember that 99% of artists going to big groups are people with a very poor background that see music as the only way out of poverty, so when you are hungry and your boss tells you hey come eat with us that is still better than being hungry. That is why you see sacrifices and satanism so easily with these people, they will do everything to make their life better. Kin is one of the few cities with normal spots but go outside of it and especially in the east you will see how much poverty there is. For example check the videos of Innoss'B Yo Pe check the ground

Congo is not like Europe especially in music. There is no SACHEM to collect your royalties or enough people that can listen to your streams unless you can sell in France too. Even footballers why do you think the Lukaku Brothers, Matuidi (even though he is Angolan) Benteke, Kompany, Batshuayi, Mandanda and many other have either chose France and Belgium? There is no way you will get those kinda money with Congo because the federation will steal it from you, remember that Coach Ibemge haven't got paid for months

He owns a Radio and Television station that has employed top journalists, he has recently bought a 3 star hotel, has a mansion in cape town and 11 mansions in Tanzania. But his dancers and other members of his team are still anguishing in poverty.

Selembao, Bumbu, Kisenso, Kimbanseke, Ngaba, Makala & Masina
People coming from Masina aren’t ashamed anymore. But those coming from Kisenso, would often lie that they are from Matete (Maray Maray is a good example), those from Makala would say that they are from the Yolo-quarter of the Kalamu-area (Reddy), those from Bumbu often say that they are from Ngiri Ngiri, people from Selembao claiming that they are from Bandal and those from Ngaba often lie that they are from Lemba.

Yes it is. But Kinshasa unfortunately is not just that. Those are the best parts of the city but there is much more misery. Those areas are occupied by corrupt politicians, musicians, footballer who manage to play in South Africa or Europe ex Europe based Kin person and so on. For example is the area where a Koffi or a Ngando (Europe base) might live since living in those areas cost only 200 dollars a month (bills food etc.) but many in Kin and in Congo do not have those 200 dollars. The main reason why it is because the Coltan, Gold and Silver mines Congo has are controlled by foreigners Belgian, Rwandans and Chinese lately and politicians rather to invest in school so we can have people that manage those kind of gold mines they prefer stealing money by Taxes and spend those money for musicians's song etc. Only a Bilionaire with clean money who cares about Congolese can change that much like Kagame in Rwanda who is not the best man but he is managing to work with Belgians to make Rwanda rich even though Rwandans are stili fleeing to Arab countries.
Congolese politicians just care about Power, Money and having songs credited to them they don't really care about their people

I wanted to add it, but was doubting about Mpasa, because of the way some « Bana Poto » are buying ground there for the way its cheep. I think that they will soon transform Mikonga & Mpasa into communes instead of depending from Nsele.
You also got quarters like Camp Luka, Pakadjuma & Malueka

very rare bro,a simple example a good amount of the motorbike taximen we call "wewa" in kinshasa are guys who have licences and masters at university but since there is no job offer no support from the governement to enter the world of employment,they activate plan B,thats why the lockdown is very very difficult for people in kin,since except the rich people and let say the artists,they have everyday to look for what they will eat that day
in some of the areas we mentioned people even have to go those machine to transform flour into various of our fufu and co we eat with sauces and literally feed their families with the rest stuck on the the parts of the machines they put it in a plastic bag and go feed a whole family with that

I remember in 2018 I attended a conference for Labour Statisticians in Geneva, Switzerland and the delegate from DRC indicated that they had not had a Labour Force Survey or any study to determine the levels of employment for over 10 years and they have no way of knowing the unemployment rate as at 2018. But estimates from World Bank and other UN agencies estimate unemployment in DRC at over 80 percent. Meaning for a group of 10 people in DRC, only 2 have some form of Employment.
But I hear the Katanga region especially Kolwezi and Lubumbashi are doing fine in terms of development.

What initially I wanted to post...
My opinion is that the way of doing things is different more on the informal side.
Peddling influence.... similar to the situation in South Sudan
An example is the donor system which pays highly.....My relatives in DRC have also experienced a different kind of corruption... "chef"...handler living off petty corruption proceeds using the name of the boss. BTW my primus t-shirt was taken at the airport from the suitcase by the customs guys.
Are there formal ways of doing things...study get a job, do business.. etc. If the leaders can establish formal structures in my opinion the giant of Africa.. DRC would surely get on its feet.
