Title: Papa Wemba - singing voice

I just heard the Zina Zonga song Papa Wemba sang in zaiko. Saw it from one of the forums in here.

I was waiting to hear Papa Wemba sing then I realised it was him but he sounded different. Voice wasn't high pitched, still a lovely voice.

How did it come about for his singing voice to change, what made him change?

Evoloko’s succes, he became fan of him, so he tried to sing like him. From then they started to sing often two duets (Wemba-Mavuela) and (Evoloko-Bozi) against each other. Thesong Amazone is good example of it.

 When Wembawas n1 in Zaïre, he wasn’t ashamed it to say it openly sometimes in interviews, that Evoloko also inspired him by singing. Something that would be impossible with musicians of today.

I see. I will need to study the importance and impact Evoloko had in the music. I think his personal life made people forget what he's actually done and achieved. I know like a handful of songs Evoloko has sang but I haven't really dug deep into his history and influence.
