I think in my view part of the reason why Papa Wemba was hated had something to with his willingness to own his flaws. He admitted his wrong doings. A lot of musicians don't like do that at all especially the Clan Wenge generation. Papa Wemba was not a major hypocrite like most of our musicians. He was a flawed man but he was willing to say that. So when Emeneya started have a dip in 1989 & 1990 and the years after the flop of Reponse ya Polo Kina and Everybody until his return in 1997, he was often victim of criticism by the press. Saying that he abandoned his roots to Wenge, because of the way he changed his music-style in Everybody. That he wanted to kill Victoria Eleison by hiring foreign musicians, while Papa Wemba had his worldmusic band Molokai. Also that Emeneya wasn't able to pay his rent in Paris, etc. Emeneya himself who was often getting dissapointed when getting in a dip wasn't fighting back. From the years that he lived in France (1991-1997), his huge fanbase in Kinshasa and Brazzaville who were waiting months for him switched to Wenge Musica 4x4, Koffi Olomide started to settle himself as a big star with his band Quartier Latin and Wemba made his comeback with Foridoles & Pole Postion (having every year some concerts in Kinshasa for a few weeks) ending by forming Nouvelle Ecriture. His fanatics started to wake him up, he decided to comeback after almost 7 years not more returning to Kinshasa by performing at Stade des Martyrs and forming a new band. But the years who followed wouldn't not be easy, because most donors and friends became donors of other bands (Koffi Olomide, Papa Wemba, Wenge Musica, etc.), so he hadn't the same support like them. The way his fans had to wait years long for Longue Histoire with the flop of Never Again in meantime made his last bastion switch to Werrason (since that Emeneya was openly supporting Werrason in the beef against JB Mpiana). Emeneya was also sometimes also not motivated and sometimes doubting about himself, starting to focus more on private business, his houses, etc. Mifune Kiabelva for example who used to get expensive clothes for him got jailed, which is one of the reasons why he switched to demin jackets, which would become his trademark.
The problem with Emeneya's first wife Francine, was that Emeneya went to sleep with her best friend Liliane, who would end becoming Emeneya's new wife. Knowing that Koffi Olomide was Emeneya best friend, she went to sleep with him as revenge, when Emeneya was in Europe. So when Emeneya came back, he was informed by close friends and even his former manager Verckys, that they caught Koffi with her in a hotel and even his kid saying that he came sleeping multiple in his house with her. That's why he divorced with his first wife, Koffi tried to apologize but Emeneya refused. Then some years later, both Emeneya & Koffi were invited for concerts in Abidjan. Koffi was still eager to reconcile with him, so he used Consty Eka to come with to Emeneya's hotelroom. Then when Emeneya saw him they started to fight and Consty Eka trying to calm down. They ended up by reconciling and became friends again, but their friendship wouldn't be the same like in the 70s and 80s, because now both were fighting about the n1-stop and Koffi often mocking him and talking bad about him behind his back.
Emeneya's ex'wife Liliane couldn't forgive Emeneya until he died, because of the way their son Kevin became paralyzed. She was mad because of the way Emeneya abandoned her in Europe with their 5 kids to live, prefering to live in Kinshasa with Florence, not being able to affront their sons when they came on the stage of puberty and them missing a father figure.

Tshala Muana was mad because of the way Emeneya exposed her and Werra, JB, Koffi & Wemba about the 15.000 dollars-affair with Joseph Kabila, while they had to talk about the projects of modern studios, copyrights, royalties, etc. It made Tshala Muana who's the original initator of the Maisha Parc-project (many people think that it was Koffi Olomide) get problems.

In 1991 he came normally to do a long tour world-tour (France, U.K., Spain, Italy, Japan, Canada, U.S.A., Germany, etc.) with succes of Mokosa & Nzinzi, being managed by Gerard Akueson (the manager of Abeti Masikini). The goal was buy their own instruments, record two albums (one band-album and one remix album of Emeneya's Viva hits) and going back to Kinshasa, also forcing the old guard out (leaving Pinos Tembo behind in Kinshasa, Safro Manzangi & Santana Mongoley leaving in U.K. after getting disrespected by new members and Mongoley even fighting with Emeneya's bodyguard). But when they wanted to return, those riots started in Kinshasa. So Emeneya prefered to stay with his band in Europe, wanting also to rest, start a world-music like his mentor Papa Wemba and return to Kinshasa on a later stadium. But the press in Kinshasa, claimed that Emeneya feared Wenge Musica and ran away because the succes the album Kin E Bouge had, like the way Wemba ran away for Victoria's succes. Not long after that they got residence permits of France through Gerard Akueson. In 1992 Emeneya already wanted to record his album Everybody, but his musicians started to get mad and Malembe Chante even threatened to leave the band. They released Reponse Ya Polo Kina, but the album wasn't well received, only the song Dandy doing well. In 1993 Emeneya finally recorded and released the album Everybody with the expectations that it would be a huge succes in Kinshasa and return to Kinshasa with Bralima/Primus-sponsored, like the concerts Wemba had with Bracongo in Kinshasa with Reddy from 1993 until 1996 until creating Nouvelle Ecriture. But Everybody flopped very hard, because of its rhtyhm and Congolese people not being used it (prefering seben). Only Nzila Velela did it well. Emeneya had then also the badluck that he wasn't produced by a major recordlabel like Papa Wemba, so he wasn't going forward. The press then saying "Emeneya avait jeté le rythme dans la rue et ses petits de Wenge Musica BCBG 4x4 l'ont ramassé à Bandal". (The same people and press would ask him in the Longue Histoire why he stopped with the music of Everybody). This all made Emeneya being dissapointed and not motivated anymore. From then it became very quite with Emeneya, some members leaving, Emeneya himself sometimes having concerts with Dindo Yogo, Gina Efonge & Lidjo Kwempa in Brussels, Paris & London. Emeneya started to get disrespected by his own bandmembers and himself regretting Safro, Mongoley & Pinos who would have stopped that. In 1995, his band released Pas de Contact, which sold very well, but not being a huge succes. Fans saying that Malembe Chante wasn't able to defend the band and not having the style of Victoria, because of his songs who were more on the Minzoto Wella Wella-rhtyhm. Then in 1997, Emeneya made his comeback with the new album Succes Fous, but that wasn't also well received.

Don't mistake Congomokili of Sims Esele, Ado Yuhe, Anelka ba Faussette & Rihanna Domingos with Congomikili of Yves Kabemba. Congomokili and Congomikili are two different things.
The project of Congomikili was started in 2008 by Yves Kabemba, who lives in Canada (Montreal). He wanted to have a kind of CNN for the whole Congolese diaspora. So he started a website which was posting articles about politics, history and music and also videos from journalists in Kinshasa (Papy Mboma, Magalie Sisi, Djo K, etc.)working for tele-channels RTGA, RTVS, etc. and collaborating with Europe-based journalists Marc Tabu & Francis Kakonde who were interviewing artists when they came for shows at Zenith and Europe-tours. They also started to distribute cd, dvds in Montreal, Paris & Brussels through their website. But in 2010 Francis Kakonde & Marc Tabu dediced to leave and form Congobilili (Marc Tabu would later leave it again to form Congonumber1 with Blaise Manzambi & Abeba Lipordo). Congomikili on his side recruited less known journalists in Europe, but still stayed strong. They to collaborated with Congolese people living in Washington D.C. (Kams who more into politics), Dallas, South Africa (John Image, Pasteur Sans Rival & Bishop Elysee), Russia (with Ado Yuhe used to be a student there) and also Australia. The combattans-phenomenon, politicial situation and elections of 2011, made Congomikili being the most followed in 2011 & 2012. Following closely how in Kinshasa through journalists like Kadhafi Mumbudi (who was close to PPRD of Kabila) and another guy (I forgot his name) being close to UDPS of Etienne Tshisekedi), how the elections went, people getting shot & killed how the PPRD-camp used corruption to win. In Europe how people in Paris & Brussels used to protest against Kabila and starting actions (mutakalalisation) against politicans and their families who tried to get in Europe. In South Africa how people discovered containers with already voted papers in favor of Joseph Kabila. Boketshu, Odon Mbo, having every week interviews there, etc. Then in 2012/12 it started to get down when Grace Mbizi joined who came from Drigombaki, people complaining about her not being able to ask questions and also about her behaviour and clothing. The new journalist Johnny Yayimimpe on his side trying to re-introduce La Sape, which didn't have alot of impact anymore in the Congolese community. Congomikili being accused of getting money from PPRD, etc. Grace Mbizi would end up leaving after a conflict with Ado Yuhe who started to live in Paris. She would be replaced by Rihanna Domingos who came from Drigbombaki along with Anelka ba Faussette with a rivalery starting between Grace Mbizi and Rihanna Domingos. In Kinshasa they recruited Carine Mokonzi. In 2015, Ado Yuhe, Sims Sesele, Anelka Ba Faussette & Rihanna Domingos decided to leave a form Congomokili after a conflict Jacques Kabemba (Jacques Kabemba is responsible for many departures). From that moment Congomikili was finished with people only following Carine Mokonzi & Aicha Okoko and the website itself not more having alot of impact.
If you look well many people come from Congomikili. Maman Elysee who make videos about weddings and divorces used to work for Congomikili and also Kerwin Mayizo who comes everyday with political analyses on internet.
