Sad to see how is voice got lost. I have to still watch it. I am curious to see what he will say.
-
crazy to think thats its the longest time i am hearing kila speak in 30 years almost,he barely gave long interviews in the internet era
credit to ado, i am at 33 minutes and they are still in the genesis of extra musica
ado is too much of a primadonna, sonor was 16 when extra started and we technically discovered extra 2 years after and ado isdoing that "he lied to me,iam touching my head " antics,i am starting to think ado does it on purpose so that he can continuously do his antics
sonor said it himself that he was the youngest and took time to get proper active in the group

I have not finished the interview but I already like it too much, he explains himself perfectly

Yes plus the way he presses certain question is annoying.

Ah Kila Mbongo! When Etat Major came out me and my cousin convinced each other that Kila was the leader of the group. Lol
I now get why singers were leaving extra musica from what Sonor explained that Extra Musica was created primarily by the instrumentist so any singer who becomes too popular is destabilised and end up leaving the group for example Kila, Doudou Copa, Oxygen etc.
Now Kila has complicated the creation story because from Roga and Durell Loemba, the key three people who were there before even the thought of Extra came was Espe Bass, Roga and Durell and later joined by Kila and Guy Guy Fall. Am sure we will get Durell Loemba and Guy Guy Fall soon on Ado so we hear their side of story.
Ado repeated that what brand of clothes is this and got asked by Kila whether that's necessary. :D

Bro its not just you lol in 1999 i went to christmas or something like that maybe easter,in my mother's family in togo and extra came to perform at stadium president eyadema, and president sent guys on stage to take kila to him thinking he's the leader and gave him a nice enveloppe
roga and espe were looking at each other like they are about to commit murder :D :D :D :D
they switched the note of the dancers sebene about to start so that he sounds off tune when he kicks in with animation

Lol. That's why Roga is so nervous when other singers take the scene

About Extra Musica-split. Hearing Kila Mbongo talking about their concert in Guinee that went wrong. I think that beside their first Europe-tour, the civil-war of Brazzaville also kind of influenced the guys. But the split came on right moment. Because otherwise we wouldn't get the classic albums Etat Major & Shalai where all guys gave 1000%.
Roga Roga never liked when someone was about to take the spotlights in Extra Musica. He would then manipulate Espe Bass and Durrel Loemba (later also Sonor Digital) to get someone out of the band. The first victim was Guy-Guy Fall who was seen as their leader by the public after the VariƩte Samedi Soir show and the first album. They did the same thing to Regis Touba by leaving behind for a west-africa tour, which would indirectly led to their first Europe-tour when they were stuck in Guinee when the civil war broke out in Brazzaville. But he would remain in the band until the split of 1998. The third victim was Abilissi, who very popular after the succes of Ouragan and especially the album Etat Major. Them using Papy Jah to disrespect him. 4th victim Kila Mbongo. If Papy Jah would have returned with them to Brazzaville, he would have gone through the same situation.
Doudou Copa revealed that the song Horizon 2000 written by Roga Roga which was made him gain respect, was supposed to be sung by Oxygene. But a conflict between both guys made Doudou sing the song.

I knew also some guys who tought that Kila Mbongo was the president of Extra Musica. The videoclip of Etat Major and it's album-cover played a major role on it. It's mostly the bandleader or leadsinger who appears alot in the main-generique and the alataku just for a few seconds.
About Kila Mbongo's departure. Trop c'est Trop is my favorite Extra Musica-album. But it took months for me to like that album. I wasn't used to hear Arafat as lead-atalaku and animating on his own, after hearing Kila Mbongo for 5 years as main-atalaku. Trop c'est Trop even made me hate Arafat's voice for a moment. But it's Africa N1 promotion of Trop c'est Trop that made like the generique and later on the album. I really wonder how that album would have been if Kila participated and also had the opportunity to put a song. All his songs in Extra Musica had some strong messages (Patience and Laissez Passer) despite that they weren't written by him.
I found it weird to not see Kila Mbongo appear in the Shalai-clips that they made in Brazzaville (only in the one who were shoot in Paris). I wonder if they did a 12 on him. This all made me think for years that Kila Mbongo left in Europe and joined them at Zenith, while he returned with to Brazzaville and toured with around Africa. Abilissi didn't appear in any Shalai except the generique. They didn't even shoot a clip for his song Tu Me Manques while was the biggest star among the singers and his song ending up by being one of the main tracks alongside Horizon 2000, Laissez Passer, Matongi and Sissi l'Imperatrice.

:D :D bato ya sima really suffer in the Congolese groups. No wonder he had no choice but become a singer.

Trop Cest Trop is my favourite Extra Musica Zangul album as well.
But between Etat Major and Super Helico, which album do you rate highly?
I personally rate Super Helico higher than Etat Major as an album even though between the generiques Etat Major and Marc 9:23, etat Major was hugely successful across Africa and really made extra musica known, few people outside of the two Congos knew that Etat Major was a release from the group that remained after the split. Am not surprised that Kila said when they heard Marc 9:23 it made them shake and work Extra hard for the next album shalai to really kill the competition.
In Super Helico you had beautiful songs such Ange Panisse of Regis Touba, Amie Tendresse of Pinochet Thiery, Biwela Wela of Mellon Ngakana etc. Its just the sound that I think was poor as compared to Etat Major probably because of different technologies in the studios used.
-
Etat Major no doubt. I don't see Super Helico as a big album. It see it more like a gospel-album the way they played keyboards and sebene. It's better to compare that album to that of Mbuta Kamoka, Rene Lokua and Thomas Lokofe lol. I liked the songs, but it's not that I see that the album could be considered as a classic album. Envoyer Special, Ange Panisse, Mon Reve & Pres de Moi are my favorite songs of the album.
Marc 9:23 was a big hit at that time and made Werrason who went to Brazzaville for concerts after the release of Intervention Rapide, adopt their dance Helico but using other animations for it in Solola Bien. Other Kinshasa-bands would adopt the Helico dance and some even the running part (Koffi for example in Force de Frappe).

Who could post the Shalai album booklets in scan please?

Wish I could get a full translation for this interview , lol, funny how back in the days we all thought it was his band...and Roga Roga was 'just' the guitarist... ;D ;D ;D

It is still like this, any Atalaku or Singer that comes always outshine Roga and risk to kill him musically. First Doudou Copa for singers (After Kila of course) then Arafat, then Papy Bastin, then Kerson Saddam, then Youyou Mobange and now even Zaparo kinda killed him with that Na Suka Wapi song which is better of whatever Roga produced since the split. Instead of working on his insecurities Roga keep acting like a victim because he can't stand when (a lot of times) people who are way more talented then him get praised and more recognition than he wants

Hahahaha yeah and it worked kila started off tune to which roga angrily shouted to him at,suka na 12 :D :D :D
I am sure it also messed the fact eyadema wanted them to come perform every new year,if the group accepted that idea kila would have gained way too much power compared to them since they were convinced he was the leader
even barbershops in togo had american stars and their haircuts onthe walls and awilo and kila mbongo as the only african artists

Papy Bastin & Kerson Saddam didn't have alot of impact in Extra Musica compared to Herman Ngassaki and Doudou Copa. Kerson Saddam just participated to one album, had just a few vocals and then left to join created Universal Zangul alongside Papy Bastin, Oyxgene, Rossen Yaourt and co. They also left before a long time before Arafat. Papy Bastin didn't had any song credited to his name in Extra Musica, where he was just giving songs to those who were higher in the hierachy. Papy Basitn's moment in Extra Musica was about to come, but he didn't want to wait anymore.
Roga Roga was about to give him more space after Obligatoire. Seeing him as someone who would later replace Herman's role. But Papy Bastin was fed up to be still considered as "nouveau" and didn't want to wait more since that he started to struggle with money, he went twice to Europe with them and already participated to three albums, which made family-members thinking that he was rich while he wasn't getting paid and the responsabilities still keeping growing. This made him motivate his friend to go towards Oxygene who already left and form their own band Universal Zangul after that Doudou Copa declined their offer, who was about to record his solo-album.
The first victim was Guy-Guy Fall who was Extra Musica's biggest start when Nouveaux Missiles got released. For years he would diss Roga Roga in every interview and in his first two albums he used to diss Roga Roga as motema mabe. He was mad that Roga Roga and Espe Bass decided to cut his song for Maman Dany (Kongolo Mobutu's wife) from the Confirmation-album. While Kongolo Mobutu already paid him alot of money and promised him a mercedes and much more money when the album would get released. It made Roga Roga jealous and he created a whole conspiracy with Sonor Digital and Espe Bass to get him out the band and cut the song from the album, claiming that he was using nkisi. Which made him leave the band.

The two disstracks against Roga Roga
Second victim was Regis Touba who before Nouveaux Missiles and Variete Samedi Soir. But his parents didn't want him to do music, so they sended him to Angola to punish him. After Nouveaux Missiles he came back and started to rise again when Guy-Guy Fall left. Ouragan was his album where he had multiple vocals and a song. Roga Roga knew that he would probably become their biggest star again and they weren't liking the way he started behaving. So they decided to do a 12 by not leaving him behind for their west-africa tour and not sending a ticket to him when they arrived in Europe on the moment when the civil-war broke done in Brazzaville. Abilissi who was a reserve-member ending up by doing most of his vocals and going away with all the shine. Regis would remain in the band, but Abilissi ending up by being more popular then him. Regis Touba would end up co-creating Extra Musica International with Quetin Moyascko and Durrel Loemba. Then once leaving them to form Z1 International along with Durella Loemba where he was the main star. Them having Levyson, Rav4 and Kerson Saddam as singers who were all stolen by Roga Roga.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jaai7kiARQ
Third Victim was Abilissi who became after the succes of Ouragan (the song Losambo made him really famous) and Etat Major one of the main stars of the band alongside Herman and Kila Mbongo. Roga Roga was then using Papy Jah to do him dirty. Abilissi himself wasn't liking Papy Jah, seeing already that they recruited him to get his place. So they weren't getting along until this day Papy Jah isn't able to mention Abilissi's name. Roga Roga did alot of 12 on him until he left and decided to join Academia before starting his solo career.

Fifth victim Doudou Copa
6th Arafat
7th & 8th victim Herman Ngassaki & Regis Touba. They were to old and Roga Roga couldn't outshine him when he became the lead-singer. So he deiced to get rid of them just before the last recordings of Sorcellerie Kindoki. Using once again Sonor Digital, Levyson and Rav4. It was normal that Roga decided to get rid of Herman, because Herman was often looking more charismatic then him despite wearing uniforms sometimes.

Would things have went better for Papy Bastin if he stayed patient with Zangul? Arafat got a song on La Main Noire, I think Bastin would have too and had lasted longer with Roga than Universal Zangul.
-
No. Universal Zangul made him reach another level. If he stayed in Extra Musica Zangul, I think that would have reached the level that Universal Zangul made him reach.
In Universal Zangul he was the second leader behind Oxygene, having the hitsongs Ibrahima Sylla, La Vie Ondongo and Tout a Coup on his name. Back at time he would often confront Herman Ngassaki on tv who used to diss them. The polemic of Extra Musica Zangul vs Universal Zangul was very strong at that time. But Oxygene wasn't happy with them and felt that Papy Bastin was about to become more popular than him. So he was about to plan a huge 12 against him. Papy Bastin was aware and then said openly on tv that he won't appear anymore in any interview, because of Oxygene not being happy with it. It made Oxygene really mad and he decided to fire him from the band after saying that. Which dissapointed the public who saw the band as really promosing, who already won the price of best band of year 2005 & 2006.

Oxygene became the supreme leader from that moment and they started preparing Conjugaison with Kerson Saddam, Rossen and co until that he was sent to Cameroun. Papy Bastin on his side started his solo-career. But his first album wasn't a big succes due to the lack of promotion.
-
It's sad that Universal Zangul imploded from within. In this interview done Papy Bastin says ba petit (Rossen Yaourt and Kerson Saddam) didn't like that he was becoming too influential in the group so they went and lied to Oxygene that Papy Bastin wants to dethrone him as leader leading to him having a bad relationship with Oxygene until that he was fired from the group as Mfumu wrote above.

I like the album Tapis Rouge but the atalaku really tried to sound like Kila Mbongo but failed lamentable. Sans Hypocrise being my favourite rumba of the album Bondo Mania with that little solo guitar at the end.
