It is not true, this isn't the only way to become famous in the industry there are many ways the problem is that 99% of musicians are ignorant or just get swayed by promise of fame and girls going crazy for them, only 1% of musicians are smart enough to either read their contract or go independent and manage their money on the own, for Example Nicki Minaj own her masters and in her contract she gets the majority of the money and the label gets less, that's why she has never win a grammi and now they are trying to replace her with all these talentless female rapper, same for Chance The Rapper who owner his music and release it as an independent becoming a milionarie with a net worth of 25 milion, what about Jay Z who is a bilionaire who manage to get his money on his contract? Or Tech n9ne an indipendent rapprr who never signed for a label and now has a net worth of 18 milion? There are many ways to make money with music and becoming successful, the problem is that as I have said most musicians are ignorant, do you think Sonor, Toofan, Brigade, Fabregas and all those guys who signed for Universal know what a 360 deal is? No, if artists are ignorant in the States don't even think about Artists who are ignorant in Africa

for the post i knew you'd point out nouvel horizon lol i think most of those universal africa and co deals are like that,and many artists accept since being indie is quite demanding,especially in countries where there is not that culture of mabanga potentially worth hundreds of thousands in one album when the success gets very high
and having a producer or label also relieves from some pressure and brings also some professional experience, drc and i am almost certain the whole central africa in terms of fairly young generation has only one big name musician who has been on 16 successive years of always having a label,and the difference shows in many factors,the independent artists try their best but they more often than not find limitations in order to be "in the top circle" unless they became independent when already being superstars and knowing the system enough to operate with their own independent staff only
