So Sam Tshintu definitely did the vocals on the Magie-album, but with a different voice. Now I see why he often credit Babia for making progess in his singing-skills.
I'm surprised to hear that Quartier Latin to return earlier from their Europe-tour in Kinshasa, but LD Kabila taking power in Kinshasa the moment they were performing in Abidjan which made them do a East-African tour waiting in . However, did they return in meantime to Europe. Because I remember them performing in Brussels for Koffi's birthday in August and Koffi at some point stating in english to fans that he performed in Kenya and Tanzania (the video is on youtube)
Imagine if RCD-Goma succeed in taking control over Kinshasa. I think that Modogo, Binda Bass and Rosette wouldn't reach Brazzaville and Koffi being forced to performed with Suzuki and Pathy Bass as only bassplayer.
Bouro had a bad behaviour. Throwing beer on the mixing board ? There was a bad atmosphere during the recordings of Droit de Veto
Sam Tshintu changed this time the story about his motivations to stay. He didn't talk about him and Modogo being set up by women (who were send by Koffi) and also not about the calls he was receiving from his family in Kinshasa about musicians being recruited. So apart the reunion they made against him, Sam was about to stay in Europe just because Koffi paid a Benz only for Depitcho, Champion and other musician ? Hahaha the way he imitate Modogo's way of crying in hotel after Champion (sended by Koffi) confiscated their passeports when coming in Tanzania

Koffi's revanche would have been harsh if they sended Modogo back from Paris, being already furious the way he and Sam left in Tanzania. Sam Tshintu did well to defend Modogo at the airport.

lol jf when he returned from army used to be quite agressive,even marie paul with his big mouth and kindoki was respecting him,especially as he even travelled with his papers at times back then
and on one or two occasions he got so angry about whatever that he wanted to beat koffi

After JF’s departure from Quartier Latin, Koffi once said that JF Ifonge’s mother is a slave which made JF Ifonge mad and once they met each other at Bolistone (Cesar Loboko’s sister restaurant) and Koffi had to run away and almost fell from the stairs

Jf was feared by people during his Quartier latin days. Because even after he left when champion Fally and co did that video mocking Depitcho, Suzuki and Academia they didn’t dare to mention Jf cause they knew if they ran into him it would’ve been over lol. Even now when you watch his videos he still has that passionate aggressive side.

Was Koffi trying to do 12 on Sam, Modogo, and the others? What went wrong during Droit de Veto? Did someone snitch that the group were upset about payment?
Did JF get his vocals deleted from Attentat or was he left behind in Kinshasa? I know he slept with a dancer and then problems came

According to the interviews I followed from other artists, Koffi was furious at Sam Tshintu because he saw him as the one who wanted to found Academia while he was innocent. So the moment they went back to Tanzania for concerts, musicians like late Ondo and Nono ba Diamants all said that he made a huge mistake by returning back, because Koffi was saying bad stuff about him and already talking about a plan to humiliate them. Modogo was also the one Koffi was planning to do wrong because during the last days of the tours he planned ran away like Sam Tshintu. At the end they were all right because Popolipo got punished for his album, Ondo not going to Bercy and not even participating to the Attentat-recordings.
The tensions were high during Droit de Veto. Lebou Kabuya not respecting Koffi, Bouro Mpela the same, etc. Must be about Koffi saying that they would not receive cars but just stereo sets, etc. Bouro was just about Koffi preferring one musician above him which made him jealous, because before he was the most loved.
Guys like Babia and Savanet Depitcho all snitched to Koffi about other musicians complaining and wanting to stay in Europe. Sam Tshintu once said that he even caught Koffi and Savanet Depitcho talking about demoting him from his role as “chef d’orchestre” when arriving in Kinshasa, when seeing him suddenly trying to change the subject and trying to lie that they were talking about him given a special role as spokemen. Sam than replying that they already have Faustin Djata doing that role in Kinshasa and them not knowing what to say. It later created some polemic on youtube 10 years ago and Depitcho making some interviews saying that Sam Tshintu just is jealous about his life.
JF Ifonge didn’t got his vocals deleted from Attentat. He didn’t even travel to South Africa. He just left behind in Kinshasa, getting punished for sleeping with a dancer which is strictly forbidden in Kinshasa and the girl in question even being pregnant. After Attentat-recordings rules changing and all dancers having to live at Koffi’s house in Montfleury and also not rehearsing at the same moment anymore like the singers.

The project that Mbuta was talking about is good. Its it will not the same anymore since Lebou Kabuya (RIP) isn't there anymore. The line-up of Sanction had something magic and if they add someone or get someone out its not magic anymore. Champion is one of my favorite drummers, but I prefer even an unknown drummer above him for this project. I don't that Sam is informed that Champion stopped with drumming

reading all these stories got me thinking that we need a QL tv series or a documentary this is apart of classic music history and deserves to be put in that form of media i keep hearing how big congolese music was in the 90s and the fact that we havent gotten a documentary series of that era is wild to me what do yall think maybe theres a reason that i dont know of

They are paid for some 100 dollars, others 50 dollars, if you are a chief 300 dollars. It depend on the role and name you have in Quartier Latin. The only problem was that they were at some point forbidden to have phones according Laura Mombili, Patience and Chouchou Mbayo. If they wanted to visit their family-members or parents they always had to bring bodyguards with them to control every movement they were doing which was frustrating them alot. If they were caught coming close with a musician they would get problems. Remember how Bibica got left behind just because of Cambodge driving with his car in her street which made Koffi think that they had an affair. Cambridge also being left behind for that Monde Arabe trip. This all made me think about Jitrois interview with Ado Yuhe hahaha, him saying that Koffi and his people used to watch every video of their public rehearsals/concerts to see if dancers were talking with singers and those who talked to the dancers getting problems. Them rewind the image everything when they saw a mouth of a dancer moving and looking well if they were with a singer

Beniko himself forgot about when talking in his recent interview. Because in interviews who were made just after his departure from Quartier Latin, hebexplained that Koffi gave him the freedom to record solo-albums on every tour in Europe, but with the condition to not invite musicians of Zaïko. They did that as an agreement when he returned back to Quartier Latin in 1998. Sadly, it didn’t en up well. Koffi often saying behind the cameras’s that he would only allow his musicians to do albums the moment he’s finished, reffering to Papa Wemba who was allowing his musicians to record albums which was seen as weakness by other bandleaders and in the beginning Wemba being criticized for it until his released Foridoles.
Zacharie Bababaswe used to taunt Koffi with that “If would allow musicians in my band to record albums, it means that I m finished. So Koffi you are finished” when they started beefing in the era that Cindy recorded her album in 2013.

I totally agree with you, one of the reasons why Congolese music failed to captivate this new generation of African listeners is the terrible lack of organization and the lack of branding that Congolese musicians typically have, for example in USA you hear non stop Documentaries about Jordan, Micheal Jackson, Prince, Elvis, Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Beyonce, TLC, Young Money, Kanye etc. And the Americans make this because they know that they are relatively a new country with very little history before the 1770 so to compensate for that they make a lot of Documentaries and Docu Novels about their big modern icons while in Congo you can have the next Micheal Jackson but no one will make a documentary about him the few Documentaries that you have about Congoelseusic are made by English or Belgians, I mean imagine Congolese music inspired guys like Stromae, Burna Boy, Arafat, P Square, Shakira, and many other big names, Shakira played Congolese music at the Superbowl, where is the documentary about a H star playing our own music? Papa Wemba went and played with Peter Gabriel where is the documentary about that? Franco used to be at the top of Belgian charts back in the say, just like Stromae in his heyday was at the top of Belgian charts, where is his documentary? Fally despite me not liking him I can't deny his huge impact on branding in the Congolese music, where is the documentary of him? Where are the books or these things? The fact that Ado Yuhe interviews are successful is because there are very very very few insights and information about artists that's why Ado Yuhe is getting massive success with his concept, it is a step forward, plus most Congolese leaders lack the vision, for example talking about JB Kylian Mbappe made a video saying "Papa Cherie Tshekk" which is massive it is like Micheal Jordan in his heyday shouting out Werra you have the best footballer in the world (Don't hate me Messi and Ronaldo fans) shouting you out, and how do Papa Cherie capitalize that? By just giving him a small shout out in a generique... I mean make him come to the video, and dance the generique and ask him to promote it or something like that, Congolese artists unfortunately are clueless like that even Serge Ibaka who is not a real singer understood this in his video Kin Brazza by asking to his teammates to dance to his song

And instead of Congolese musicians being united you see then having stupid and silly beef instead of focusing on being the best Celeo finally understood to leave Beef behind things that Heritier and Fabregas should also realize but no they still bickering like someone outside of Congo cares about their music

because letting musicians release is preparing successor,and if there is anything congolese musicians dont like is thinking that there is life after them,in most of the cases,it either starts off under pressure,or by surprise or the leader does not see you succeeding at all so he does not mind much,but in general the amount of time it happened is like 1 per cent of the amour of times musicians in general have that desire that at least once before their death they can have an album to their name
as for dancers,its in most groups,for two reasons,first being that most leaders consider dancers like their sex slaves so they have to be free and the easiest way is to forbid it knowing that dancers like musicians a lot because they can understand each other easier in terms of lifestyle,in terms of the undercover tactics to get money and things like that
then the other reason is that they claim that allowing it brings mess in the group because sometimes they bring their conflicts into the groups,and imagine when leaders themselves are also dealing with issues with the same dancers, for example,without trying to embarass him but kabose has been slapped by one of his dancers out of jealousy as he was dating another of the group,just to give you an idea of the public spats in both ways,either between musicians and dancers,or the whole group witnesses leaders argueing with a dancer and the dancer sometimes dominating the convo like she cant be fired anytime
