I don’t know if it’s just me… I have my rotation of what we collectively agree are classics or good albums from mainly the late 80’s - mid 2000’s, but after a while I can’t keep listening to the same albums every couple weeks.
There’s been so few great releases this decade - even knowing what to play at parties is challenging, because you can’t keep playing old classics with young folks around.
The last party I was at it was Zebuka, some Formule 7 rhumba, and some Dyanstie Vol 1 for the songs from recently, then it was French/Nigerian music the rest of the night… at a Congolese party
With the 4/5th generation leaders and Koffi having a monopoly of the media coverage, there is so much talent in DRC going unnoticed
For a change, I try to listen to the French diaspora artists (the usual stars), but the music lacks depth and often sounds very similar to one another. So I quickly get bored and revert back to the genre. Same situation with Nigerian music
I don’t know where things will go to end the decade, but at the moment nothing seems to be on the horizon to change the situation

Yup. There is only so much of the same albums I can keep listening to. Its easier to just have a playlist and put it on shuffle

For Congolese yes unfortunately we have our classics but besides some of recent artists nothing is often clicking. I am big on listening to several genres from USA and I’ve gotten into other African music along with French rap. It’s sad that our genre has not kept us excited lately.

i think music in general in todays era is so disposable based on how much unoriginal music get upload a day on streaming services which it was makes most people of an older generation stick to the old classics cuz it comes from an era where music was special and album dropping was an event Effrakata, Kibuisa Mpimpa,TH felt like huge events unlike muisc today

Yeah I’m going through the same exact situation. I end up listening to the concerts from all of the eras to keep me from getting bored with listening to the same albums all the time. Not sure how long this drought will last but it’s definitely getting worse and more scarce

what i am doing now to deal with it,i try to go back to albums that i did not listen to seriously in depth,only focusing on the hits/generiques
for example i suggest to you guys ere de verité by Z1 international,one of the rare ever clan extra musica album without that note they have been rinsing for most of their existence,solid album,with variety,and durrell really pushed himself with the solos
i am also exploring madilu's albums which i was not listening to deeply,some nice surprises there
