Post by: Quadra Kora Man on November 07, 2025, 20:34
I was listening to Koffi Nobelesse Oblige Album. I’m just curious to know, does anybody know why Willy Bula did animation in this Album?

Because Koffi decided to leave late Jean Louis Manzugidi behind in Kinshasa and Beevans Rappa hadn’t reached the maturity to animate alone yet and hadn’t enough stamina

According to  Beevans himself when he just joined he had a lot difficulties with animating and Willy Bula helping him often out. I believe that Koffi saw that he could use him in the place of him, since that he wasn’t happy with Manzungidi anymore.

There used to a video of INA Congo on YouTube, where you could see comedian Ngadiadia doing advertisements for his show and toward the end of the video you could see Koffi, Fifi, Do Akongo and co promoting their show and on the moment that Fifi was dancing, you could hear Wily Bula doing animation

Where do you rank Jean Louis Manzugidi compared to the atalakus that came and went in Quartier Latin? He definitely had a unique voice. As an atalaku, how do you know you're falling out of favor? It's not like rap music where the artist is expected to be the primary creator of their work, atalaku often work with writers and adapt  folklore for their work. Was it because Robert Ekokota got popular from Kin e Bouge and Koffi decided to promote Beevans because they're similar profile?

I don't remember if it was late Tolin, Beevans or somebody else saying it. But one of them said that Koffi wasn't liking Jean Louis anymore after a trip to Angola, seeing that he had a bad influence in the group and some musicians started to  use coke and some even  getting addicted to it because of him. He also apparently didn't give the 100% anymore and had difficulties to reach the notes during rehearshals.

I wasn't seeing Jean Louis's voice as unique. In my opinion his voice was part of the school of late Nono Monzuluku and Ditutala of Choc Stars, like Azanga of Big Stars. His animations in PDFP, were  reminding me of Zaiko Langa Langa of the early 1990s. Manzugidi was a good atalaku, but not the best I prefer the atalaku's that came after him. But I have alot respect for him, because he came with animation within Quartier Latin, which first didn't exist. It immediately changed the concerts of Koffi and brought some ambiance, which first wasn't really present

We can hear Mazungidi doing the intro of Magie since then he wasn't active anymore. I always find it strange that Koffi let him animate the intro and not the rest of the album but Beevens was on fire he did a great job by animating alone

Because Koffi wasn't liking him anymore, he would also ignore him often during rehearsals and concerts. Beevans at that time became very popular and there were alot of debates going on for the way he was animating like Ekokota.  After the trip of Magie, Quartier Latin went back to Europe again after 3 months. for the V12-recordings.  Jean Louis Manzugidi left Quartier Latin shortly after that Somono Dolce joined and went to settle in Angola.

No, that's Quartier Latin performance at Tele Zaire.

I was talking about a short video, which had several advertisment of comedian Ngadiadia Ngadios with his friend Shogun for different shows. In one of the adds he was lying in a coffin, there was also one where he was filming in the studio. I rememeber that there was also a ad of late comedian Sans Soucis, acting like a traditional chief/king.

In the part of Quartier Latin, where were at a place which was like a beach with a lot of son and Koffi saying "boko zala nga tein ?" and protecting his hand for the son. Some members talking (Do Akongo, Fifi, ..) talking for a few seconds and them  ending up bydancing on Do Akongo's guitar on the background and Willy Bula doing animations
