I don't believe that things would have changed much if Lacoste had stayed, because things were already going downhill while he was still around. From their return to Kinshasa till Lacoste's departure. It's true that Lacoste's arrival in Tonya Tonya created some buzz and boosted them even more, but Tonya Tonya had already succes when they started 2–3 months before he joined

If you could pinpoint exactly where things went downhill, where do you think Adolphe lost momentum beyond repair? Was it just too competitive at the time between the branches of Wenge for there to be BCBG, Masion Mere, and Tonya Tonya? Because they had to also contend with the orchestra of Papa Wemba and Koffi Olomide Olomide as well.
I feel like Felix Wazekwa put a self-imposed ceiling on potential of Cultural Pays Vie by refusing to play the politics of the industry, which cost him Stade de Martyrs and other prestigious concerts in Europe until Olympia. But by then, 5eme was already going and that was pretty much his plateau of popularity
