the difference is that generique is at very least 95 per cent  dancing throughout,sebene has  almost half singing half dancing
for example  kin e bouger is a sebene song, operation dragon is a generique

Thank you archos for the eye opener. I was confused because i always see guys use them interchangeably and thought they were the same thing. what confused me more is when DJ Sly said Bana Zebola had both generique and sebene. Still confused about that one. so archos which part of Bana Zebola is sebene and which part is generique?

sebene starts from around 5th minute with the lead guitar announcing the change of  pace of the song

I see Archos has answered perfectly but just to reiterate that a generic or generique is an intro song which is a dance song completely from start to finish then sebene is the part where the dance part starts in a song which starts slowly then progresses,some songs start as rhumbas then pick up the tempo/speed then fire into the dance part which is called sebene.

The best Generic example is Ngoma Maguy by Wenge Musica 1990. That one was the parent of all generics.
