Now i understand the secret to the tones in his guitar works,he's explained how he uses the guitar effects machine he had on the table and why he feels every professional soloist should have it. He takes a swipe at some of the so called ''top soloists'' who cannot even understand the use of the effects machine(i suspect he was talking about Hadji who doesn't use it and in a previous interview Hadji says he's the best of his generation)
Charly also mentions his idols starting with Maitré Ficarre who taught him, Alain Makaba, Beniko Popolipo,Mboka Liya ,Flamme Kapaya and Roga Roga who inspired him to use distortion and other effects.

You should have followed the interview, he says he uses distortion and other effects with limit, he used it at the song of Maboko Pamba on Qui est Derriere toi(although in a previous interview Marchouse said it was Laurent Kadogo who played that distortion part). I believe it's also Charly who played the final version of L'eau est là which has distortion at the start and you hear the young ataluku shout out ''Charly Solo'' at Min 1.45,initially Hadji was the soloist on the song but it was edited as i believe Charly wasn't happy that Hadji had played all solos on the maxi single all by himself.

this interview just confirms to me which i am not a too big fan of distortion when the sound is clear its just too nice ,by the way before joining maison mere and later ferré,charly had replaced olivier tshimanga in the interpretation group of grand hotel so he played pretty much every artists' songs,the day ferré will do a folkloric song i think he will be the one playing he is very very good at that

Yeah, a lil bit of distortion like Arc En Ciel also does is good and amplies the solo more.

charly joined maison mere around the same time as prince d angola back then,then spent time with reserve and tried his luck in quartier latin but they did not keep him as they went for the internal option of promoting poumpa so he briefly returned to maison mere and when christian solo left in europe and ferre announced he was looking for a soloist he came for a test

Ah i see. The guy is quite good with his fingers,he's got the right speed and excellent way of picking and this produces a distinct sounds but his partitions are monotonous as they can be repetitive with little variation that's why he probably struggled to make a mark in Maison Mére and Quartier Latin.

You are right it's him at first but he should let hadji play all the song...
