Gode Lofombo: In a class of his own.  Very distinctive style of playing and a trendsetter.
Espe Bass: Another one with a distinctive style of play, though it has become repetitive like the Extra Musica.
Binda Bass/Rocky B: Latin Quarter bassist played a very important role in many of the hit songs of old.
Ngouma Lokito: That speed especially in the days of the Parisian styled soukous

Ngouma Lokito....bringing superstar status to bassists
Espe Bass....consistently good playing

Michel Lumana (ex Werrason) is by a country mile the best bassist I have ever seen and listened to. He is the man who inspired me to start bass lessons.......... How he played on Tindika Loketo & Alerte Generale was trendsetting and set the Congole music world on a new path of bass playing......he plays bass with heavy slides and is almost like a lead player.


Lofombo is also very good. So is Rocky Blanchard, Pati Kaja Bass, Sunda & Wallo.......

Unlike some I find Mimiche, Binda, Masela and all to be functional no frills bassists. No exciting at all.

I totally agree with you about Masela. I think Pati Kaja Bass is a very good bass player, he showed it in the album Sanction. But Koffi did not exploit this bassist well enough

kiekie, Masela was too focused on the cigarette he was always smoking. I rate him more for his status as "fondé" rather than his bass work.

I agree with your list, I'd add Rocky Blanchard, Tosha Fulakanda, Ngouma Lokito, and Mpudi Decca (RIP) to the list though. In no particular order, but all after Lofombo. He's the best ever to do it for the genre.
