Congolese Music / Re: Maybe The Combattants Were Right…
« on: January 29, 2025, 23:14 »

In the long run, a radical protest from a popular musician only invites reprisal from their government for bringing negative attention to the current regime (does Fally or Ferre really want to sacrifice the small wealth they built for a path that could lead to jail, exile, and even assassination).

First and foremost, they're musicians by trade. They're not college students, politicians, or paramilitary. Those are the branches of a successful revolution. Artisans are complicit because by singing for Kabila or Fatshi, they legitimize the Congolese government in exchange for money. Their hands are dirty as well and combatants will rightly point that out. Musicians are compromised, especially Fally and Roga Roga who are too "close" to the seat of power based on their craft.

Even this current regime is on record saying what Rwanda is doing is wrong and that the West and other African countries are in bed together to destabilize Congo.

Archos is right. While I don’t agree with violence, the Combattants should’ve been taken more seriously and been offered an olive branch to work together to stop the madness. These countries need to cut funding to Kagame. He wants to do to Congo what Putin is doing to Ukraine.

Congolese Music / Maybe The Combattants Were Right…
« on: January 29, 2025, 19:52 »
As Congo burns, we need to come to a serious reckoning. While hands are getting greased off of the backs of the Congolese, these musicians were and still are performing in these countries that could give a f* about the atrocities taking place in the Congo. These are supposed to be ambassadors who should be raising awareness because the countries are indirectly supporting the M23 who are being financed by Congo’s neighbor.

Then on the other hand you have an artist who is besties with Macron parading him around the streets of Kinshasa drinking beer and then on the grand stage next to Tshisekedi takes a pool stick and shoves it up Congo by siding with Kagame to still allow troops in Goma, who steal the resources to sell on the international black market to fund various technologies in our very own households. Makes sense that they call Kabila Rwandese. These countries are profiting off of Congo, and they have nothing to show for it. NOTHING.

Congolese musicians need to think long and hard before they continue to perform in the UK, France, Belgium, Dubai, even here in the United States. It’s these countries that are funding Rwanda to rape the country, the Congolese people suffer and our musicians going to these countries singing and dancing who don’t even really respect our culture (they steal from that too and we get no credit).

Congo is bleeding…

Congolese Music / Re: NEW GENERIQUE BY BILL CLINTON

This was hot in 2013. Bill doesn’t have it anymore.

Say what you want about the man, but Mobutu heavily promoted the arts and sports in Zaire even gifting musicians money and cars, yeah there were caveats like performing at private parties, state dinners, and even campaigning for him.  But he had the charisma and the influence to bring such events to Kinshasa.  Until Fatshi's or future governments put more emphasis into the arts as a whole and not just popular band leaders, I think you'll see a resurgence of such events.  In retrospect, L'authenticité, despite its authoritarian foundation, was probably the best thing to happen to Congo's culture.

C’mon Tip put some respect on Vieux Jossart’s name. Lol! People are pissed off in the comments 😂

The sebene at the end was really a surprise but i started to sing the first prt of allo telephone, this rhythm is just copy paste…. So Boring…….

Is Felly Tyson still with F’Victeam? If so, it’s funny because they said the same about him when he was in QL and fans forgot about that when Fally hired him.

Archos, I think these are two different issues. Ferre can sue for Vita Imana because it was his song in that group album but Ferre cannot sue for his vocal on operational dragon because that was Werrason's song. This is the same with Brigade, he did not produce any song with werrason, what he had were vocals on a werrason's song. If copyrights worked like that then there is no single artist under the sun who owns copyrights to any song as whoever played a role can claim ownership. Brigade himself might not even claim copyrights because the instrumentalists who played on his vocal will also claim their share. Werrason who paid for that part of the vocal will also claim his share. In the end the whole thing will have no sane legal interpretation. What Brigade can claim is his salary if he was not paid and it has to be paid according to he contract he signed.

Bingo…publishing rights is the key here and instrumentalists/vocalists don’t get those unless they’re listed as songwriters or producers. French courts follow music law, so essentially Brigade doesn’t have a case.

Furthermore, who ever is advising him on this is giving him very bad advice and it will be detrimental to his career, which he barely has, if he loses.

Unfortunately, depending on the jurisdiction Brigade may not have a case. He worked for Werra and he was paid on a retainer contract. These kids get hard ons working for these artists to get on signing performance contracts without lawyers. This is what happens when you don’t discuss publishing rights from the beginning.

Congolese Music / Historians: Was Marie-Paul ever in QL?
« on: February 14, 2024, 20:45 »
I know at times you should take Wikipedia with a grain of salt, so I surprised to Marie-Paul’s name as a list of artists who found success from QL under Koffi’s entry.

Can anyone verify that he was with them? If true, are there any songs that he contributed to even as a BGV?

Congo got eliminated so there’s no point. He needs to let go of fimbu, how many times is he gonna remix it?

Aren’t they going for 3rd against South Africa

Congolese Music / Re: DYNASTIE 2 VOL 2 IS OUT!!
« on: October 30, 2023, 13:51 »
Congolese music doesn’t play in Congo nightclubs ndombolo is so dead in kin.

This is a grave mistake. IG videos and TikTok are being dominated by dance trends and ndombolo has found a resurgence outside of Africa via these platforms. Congolese are known for sebene and dancing. It’s frustrating that consumers are literally telling you what’s hot right now and you’re doing the total opposite. If Congo wants to be on top again, they need to tap in and really push dance challenges.

I just noticed that michel bass kinda confirmed the same thing, saying that ferre asked to have the same mix as an american artist which he made him listen to i think the idea behind it is that people often reproched him to stay  too much in pure rumba and be outdated so i think mixing that way gave something more "modern"

I’m a blues guitarist so this actually makes me extremely happy. It gives songs like Oza a nostalgic feel which sounds like hommage to 80s Tabu Ley and Afrisa. Le Padre went old school with this album. He often gives history lessons in Congolese music, something Fally doesn’t do.

Congolese Music / Re: WENGE BCBG PLANNING A TRIP TO USA?
« on: September 03, 2023, 10:45 »
If they come to DC or Raleigh I’ll be going. But I’m surprised they’re coming back after I heard they got jerked around by promoters the last time they toured here over 15 years ago.

Koffi doesn’t have it anymore and his decline is sad to watch. He should be riding into retirement and mentoring current stars, like telling Fally “kima te…” LOL.

Seriously though, even in death his arch nemesis is globally respected. I’m not sure the same will be said about this man.
