ARE WE WITNESSING A NEW PHENOMENON IN CONGOLESE MUSIC
ten years ago, fally ferre and co started the trend of leaving a group to go solo rather than join another group, and this was heavily followed and in the last months i have noticed one thing i had never seen, with bouro, ceden play, chikito, bercy, bendoson, pompon all rejoining their former group within the last 12 months and in every of the existing big groups there are names announced to possibly follow

Re: ARE WE WITNESSING A NEW PHENOMENON IN CONGOLESE MUSIC
Some members may not too be familiar, but if you back to the reports and publications of the two great Congolese music scholars and journalists, Manda Tchebwa and Bolowa Bonzakua, it's amazing how accurately predicted back in the late '80s -early '90s what would become the present state of the genre:
Success being based the impact of one or two songs on an album, rather than the development of a career with patience, moving from one band to another until their fanbase urges them to do a solo album.
The shift of attention from the band leaders (highest heiarchy) to the band singers and Atalakous (historically lowest in ranking) because they generate continued interest and news through polemics.
The overemphasis on dance music would make musicians lose their identity.
Music production would become to overly commercialized; entire albums would be comprised songs sold to donors.
Increasing costs would make Europe concerts and European recorded albums unsustainable.
Even how musicians would eventually come to they realization that they need to go back to their roots (what brought them initial opportunity/attention) because only a small percentage of musicians can sustain a solo career. Which is what Archos is alluding to.
The two were/are very well respected advisors for basically everyone in the business, but very few followed their advice.

Re: ARE WE WITNESSING A NEW PHENOMENON IN CONGOLESE MUSIC
Leaving a group to go solo doesn't look to be the easiest thing to do. It not only take artistic finesse, it involves being able to carry fans along. Fally Ferre, Fabregas have what it takes. In Bouro Mpala's case, other than dancing what was known for? what hit song has he had even in QL? When you think you can now lead men, you must be able to do that with more than just singing. You must have charisma, leadership quality, a good team around you and the spirit of inclusion. Fally is winning because he included just about everyone in his group (makes them relevant). Didier Lacoste is not doing that. Some just want to be leaders and that takes work. With that said, making ends meet when all you know is making music can be challenging. All the guys who went back to big groups need to feed their families. They are willing to do that under a leader. Chikito could not keep a team, Bouro has two CDs to his credit and still can't survive because he doesnt have donors? Good songs and ballads should come before singing praises of people who are not so relevant.

the music was in need of this jolt. the same old bands over and over were getting tiresome (at least in my opinion).

Re: ARE WE WITNESSING A NEW PHENOMENON IN CONGOLESE MUSIC
The only group that has some good chemistry, to me, is ZAIKO, just think about DouDou the atalaku, is a long time that he is there because it was an other mentality, and there was less fakeness, I think that most of the times except Fally , JB, Koffi and Félix, most of the leaders don't even pay musicians, Kimbangu solo never has a cent from Werra, and just think of what a great guitar player Kimbangu is, Gemerose, wasn't payed either , but he hadn't has any donors behind him. Doing like this kills music and this is done of the reason a lot countries like Nigeria, Ghana , CDI, took some elements, fundamental elements of Ndombolo and went successful
