Some of best modern solo work (Japonais & Flamme) can heard in this album - and it defined modern Wenge sound. I'm reminded every time I listen


Had this album been recorded in Europe, it would've really devastating for BCBG.

I bet what attracted you more is the new style they brought while titanic was like some absolute peak of the style wenge 4X4 in their 10 11 years as a proper big group

This album was a huge succes in Kinshasa, Paris, Brussels, London, Brazzaville & Pointe Noire. With BCBG-fans asking how such album could dominate Titanic, who recorded in the best conditions and people could prefer Chantal above Omba. It was 60%-40%. It's was only some moments later, I guess after that they released the Zenith-VHS that people starting releasing how good Titanic was, especially the song Omba. The fanclubs of Wenge Maison Mere in Europe were doing hard work to promote the band (guys like Photo Joel Mbetenge, Tonton Jacques, La Reine Mandibule, Claudine Kinua, Annie Ntima-Mbote, Hugues Luvelela. Claude Maluma, Patcho Panda,etc.). They dominated BCBG everywhere in Kinshasa (except the elite, which was pro-BCBG), since that they cemented a big fanbase at the moment that BCBG was touring Europe. They performed all 24 area of Kinshasa, especially Tshangu (Masina, N'djili, Kingasani & Kimbanseke). They even performed at Stade des Martyrs, before the release of Intervention Rapide, to prove their popularity, but it was then not a big succes. The big personalities of Bandundu started to lobby for the band (Godard Motemona, Andre Kimbuta, Theophile Mbemba, etc.) asking people from that province to support Werrason. With people starting hating JB, after many interviews made by the Maison Mere-camp, saying that he and Wemba were responsible for the split of Wenge, etc. After the release of Intervention Rapide they had big events in Mbuji-Mayi, Kananga, Brazzaville, Brazzaville and Kinshasa, where they performed at l'Esplanade de Palais du Peuple. Followed by that Canada/UK/USA-tour and then the famous Europe-tour, which had events like Madeleine, the fara-fara with BCBG in Zenith & Maison Mere in Villejuif and the Palais des Sports-concert. Closed by the Helicopter-event at Stade des Martyrs. But JB smashed them against all the expectation at Stade des Marytrs.

Japonais doesn't get credit for establishing the way the solo guitar is played. This album is like an afterthought even though it's the album the started it all, I bet most people think Solola Bien is the first one lol.

That's because Solola Bien was the album where their international succes started, while Intervention Rapide was only a huge succes in the Congolese community. If you say to people from Tanzania, Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroun, Zambia & Kenya that Intervention Rapide bet Titanic, then they will see you a crazy guy.

It still hurts me the way Extra Musica bet Wenge Maison Mere at the Kora Awards 2000, for being voted as Africa's best band. It was a humilation for us people from DRC and people from Brazzaville started mocking us on tv. It made me very angry the way musicians of Wenge BCBG were mocking Maison Mere, while it was something about the pride of our country and not something about BCBG vs Maison Mere.

unfortunately our musicians were NEVER and will surely never be united about international trophies
you'll notice that those who won trophies even mock the other ones
even recently and i will avoid naming artists to avoid needless polemic but in the last 5 years it happened that some musicians or their employees were over the moon that a nigerian or ivorian artist won rather than their congolese brother
