I don't think is a problem of going solo despite ha in a good run as a group member I think that it is that Comgo is a country with capitalistic needs and thought. We know Fabregas, Heritier and to some extent Robinio of the younger generarion that made it and Fally and Ferre of the older generation before them but just think about  the Manda Chante, Bourro Mpela, Eboa Lotin, Abraham Mignon, Eric Menthe, Chai Ngenge, CNN, Kerozene, Sam Tshintu, Savanet Depitcho and many many others who didn't make it. There isn't space for everybody and if you don't bring something new you will be easily replaceable and/or easily forgotten.



For Deplick I think is a combination of both lack of a strong fanbase (Women are one of the weaker fanbase you can have, I am not a misogynist, is that womenwill listen to a pre established set of guys in music usually from 11 to 18 the teen idol like Deplick were back in the days, from 18 to 25 will listen to the guy who is speaking about firstoves and first sex who is hot and has a little bit of muscles from the 25 until marriage will listen to the Fally type playboy type of guy and after marriage usually religiois song or romantic songs at least here in Congo) and the fact that depsite beind different, he used to sound way too much like Fally, and recently is his love for the polemique in the interviews and lack of promotion instead of focusing on making more "original" music and leave polemique behind

Many legends made it in their career because of girls, Papa Wemba, Tabu Ley, Franco, Koffi Olomide, Nyoka Longo, Lita Bembo, the list is long. Also those of the 5th generation Fally Ipupa, JDT, Ferre Gola, Heritier Wantanabe... Girls bring important donors to the artists, they can be send on mission to eliminate rivals which happened to many of the 3th generation, bring money to those artists (most Congolese musicians are like gigolo, even bandleaders), etc. You will notice that if a Congolese singer start a solo career, try always to come close to "Les Grandes Dames de Paris, Bruxelles & Londres". 

Koffi Olomide, Papa Wemba, Lita Bembo & Nyoka Longo often said that the bigesst nkisi in Congolese music is girls. If you have them, than you can go very far in your career.

Ya Mvulusi I think you are right. I can tell you that in as much as I am a Ferre fan, Fally has an edge over him and its due to what you have highlighted here, "women" are the biggest fans of Fally outside of the Francophone countries. Even here in Zambia, mention Fally coming and you will notice how how many ladies will be busy tagging each other about going to the show, and as a husband or boyfriend you have no choice but to take her to Fally's concert or some other guy will take her for you. . I know a certain guy whose wife is a big Fally fan such that whenever Fally comes in the country the husband has to be literally dragged to go and look for where the band is lodging so that the wife can take pictures with Mopiwi and if she's lucky even Fally himself. .

But the downside with having too many female fans especially from non lingala and non French speaking countries is that not all your music will be known. Because ladies only like one or two songs from a dozen songs of an album.

I think is a combination of causes I think that everyone in the world would go imlatient after knowing what big group can put you through, why do you think Innoss'B, Gaz Mawete and many many guys of the younger generation prefer go solo right away instead of joining big groups?

There isn't enough creative venues to support these artist that go solo in Kinshasa compared to artist in Europe. Keep in mind, JP Kys has a monopoly in the studios and engineers avaliable to musicians which is why a lot of the generiques we've been hearing sound bland.

I don't agree, he had a Brigade type of voice but even lighter and when he got tested at La Zamba the crowd went crazy I forgot where that video is but I will try to recover and show it to you. I think that it is that Werra transform Kene Kene into a second voice atalaku to complement Celeo and Roi David who were already 1st voices and having Kene Kene   produced a loss of balance, but I don't think he was looking the Bill Copycat, he tried to bring the Bill style back with Brigade in Sous-Sol, Liboka and Deodorant in Satellite, Bercy Mwana and Ambulance in Fleche Ingeta and Ambulance and Anti-Balle in 7eme Jours but Kene Kene was not even for a second the copycat of Bill
