What became of Dolin and Yondi Okosha after the split of Pipiyus? I remember that Djo Lokis joined Les Marquis
He was even at the LSC concert with Bill Clinton, Ferre Gola, and JDT before they returned to Kinshasa.
Even to this day, Yondi still got the magic voice! They should have stayed together, technically Didi Kalombi should have been a leader given his long history with BCBG. What do you think?
They all became solo artists, but nobody is paying attention. Dolin Masengi is working on his solo album cas par cas and released some songs on youtube. Yondi is also working on a solo album, the same for Djo Lockis who asked recently for mabanga customers and support on youtube when he came to France to record his album (he lives in Holland).
Djo Lockis was still with Les Marquis when Ferre and Bill left and participated to Eluka Makambo and Moleki Nzela, having some succes with his vocals.
Didi Kalombo don't have a long history with Wenge BCBG. He wasn't even an official member, he was part of the PPU. He was recruited on the same moment with Sakoko, Dolin, Djo Lockis, Armand Ngolo (RIP), Teka Diobanza, etc. when they made a new PPU-team in Kinshasa before the arrival of JB Mpiana in Kinshasa after having performed at Zenith & Olympia. Didi Kalombo was not the big star of Les PPU when they used to perform Kinshasa, the big stars were Sakoko, Armand Ngolo (RIP), Dolin Masengi. He was in the shadow of the three guys. Then when they went to Bercy it were Chikito & Dolin who were the stars. The Pipiyu had not alot of experience and were too young, also its very difficult to maintain in Europe (songi songi plus if Congolese people live in Europe they can't accept to have someone above them and become big headed). In my opinion they had just to have president/manager outside the group like the way bands of Kinshasa used to be in the 70s (Zaiko, Stukas, etc.), but it would still have been difficult. Sakoko and Armand Ngolo (RIP) had that charisma to be the figurehead of the group, but they both stayed in behind in Kinshasa when the Bercy-trip came.
