I was happy at the time that when Papa Wemba had remixed all these old hits songs, and I thought it might have a great clarifying success (because it is the same producer had produced the album also Emotion, which was also successful in America, Europe...), but I did not know if it was a success, I had it at the time this CD.

The album flopped very hard and there was zero promotion. It was btw Wemba's last album with the RealWorld label of Peter Gabriel from the 3-album contract he signed there. He was in conflict with the label, during the promotion of Emotion. So Wemba did zero effort to come with new songs, compared to the way he did with Le Voyageur & Emotion. That's why he remixed his old songs. The album got released in the same period, when he released 'L with Nouvelle Ecriture. The only new song of the Molokai-album was Excuse Me, which would get  some succes after his death, because of the version he performed at New Morning in 2006, that would get some attention like the concert at Le Trianon.

It was not the first that Wemba released a remix-album on the market, his second "world music" album (called Papa Wemba), which was released in 1989 under the label Sterns (recorded in Japan), had also remix-songs. Songs like Escalve, Bokulaka, M'fonoyami, Bakwetu, Analengo and Mukaji Wanji. It was released under big musiclabel EMI and arranged by the famous frenchmen Martin Messonier (journalist, director and musician). It was the same Martin Messonier who said to Wemba to create a new band (Mokolai) for his world-music career and it was because of him that Wemba, Reddy, Stino, Luciana and Demukuse all received French papers. The album made him known in France and was a commercial succes and made him tour around the world (Europe, Asia, Canada & USA).
