Like i said in another post if we take into account some who did not have time to earn a name or some who came and made quick return to their groups or went elsewhere quartier latin had quite a lot of bassists in its history
here is my top 5 which was not an easy choice especially for the three first spot
1 rocky blanchard miantezolo "chado",mister quartier latin like ya beniko once called him,played from the very first album of quartier obviously,but strangely enough never benefitted from the years where quartier latin reached proper spotlight and continental fame,but his contribution was top notch and had a great battle against lofombo,masela and co
2 pathy bass, one word LOI,says it all,arrived after magie but had to wait for his chance for years with blanchard and the newly recruited and favourite binda,i really liked his heavy sound the concert of olympia you could feel a difference when he was playing and when it was binda
3 clovis bamenga nguma one of the many ex members of duc herode's group,i discovered him in attentat and i asked myself since when binda upped his game like that,only to learn after that it was clovis and he confirmed my impression in bercy  i would have loved to ear him more  on several albums but he chose to leave after bercy(and as we know went to academia and integral )
4 koffi would disagree with me surely but binda bass" veut dire vraiment le bassiste le plus beau d'afrique" it took me a long time to really like him,maybe because i was finding that pathy bass  was unfairly sidelined,he upped his game from effrakata after a couple of shaky years where his situation of favourite was slightly in danger and left on an strong swi performance aswell as l'album du patron
5 augusto nsingi who if i am not mistaken only did magie and remained in europe,i like his play in magie


it would have been harder to make that top 5 if sunda bass and motingia really had time to properly perform in quartier latin

I'm agree with you with Rocky in 1st position, i'm agree that Rocky and especially binda were Koffi's favorites, they are very strong it's true but Pathy Bass is one of the most underrated quartier latin's members. You have to listen Loi like @Archos said but when i'm listening to his song Plus jamais in Droit de véto and Sanction with Academia... No comment. When I listened to the album Sanction, which is a kind of studio/live album I understood that Pathy had been very little used and very underestimated in Quartier latin. I think Binda's way of playing bass is more appropriate for rumba and Pathy's way of playing is more appropriate for generiques/sebens.

Its like in solo guitar, Felly Tyson is Koffi's favorite but Lebou Kabuya who lasted less in the group, has a more aggressive and dancing way of doing the generiques/sebens while Felly Tyson has a lot more a way to play rumba...

2. Clovis Nguma Bamenga, aka' Silawuka Bass
3. Pathy Bass  "Pajero" (I liked the way he played bass on Rond Point, he  influenced the new generation for the way to play bass on Zebola rhythm-songs. But people all credit it to Binda Bass).

5. Augusto Nsingi (The way he was playing made me thinking about Soukous)


I can't put Motingia Tunga and Sunda Bass, because they didn't record any album with Quartier Latin. But if I had to put Motingia. Then would put him on n2 and maybe above Blanchard, based on the work he did in Zaiko and the basslines he brought who influenced a whole generation.

from 0:34 Pathy Bass. Ka-Vroom, like a car. He did that also on Rond Point, after that Koffi said  "Eza Nga", just before the chorus start singing "ozo ko-rond point".
