I was listening to Attentat earlier and I thought to myself was Koffi the first to have more than 6 singers in his group because in Attentat there were only 10 singers that participated and 14 singers credited who were the main team (Depitcho, Babia, Mamale, Eric, Fally, Mustapha, Lola, Gibson, Spino, Soleil, with Chikito, Jf, Jordan, and Sarbatino who were also on the main team but didn’t participate in the album.
Obviously after Academia was formed more singers were recruited and before the arrival of Fally, Mustapha, Lola, there were plenty of singers who eventually disappeared and joined other groups or became in the second team.
So did Koffi start this trend? Because he was one of the first to have more 9 mics on stage in 2005, and for the zenith of 2007 he had 12 mics on stage.

Koffi was not the first Congolese artist to have more than 10 singers in his band, that already started in Viva La Musica, Zaiko and TPOK Jazz. But about singing in an album yes. Attentat had just 10 singers (Babia, Eric Tutsi, Depitcho, Mamale, Fally Ipupa, Soleil, Spino, Jipson, Mustapha & Lola Muana) who were all in South Africa, Koffi credited Jordan Kusa, JF Ifonge, Alain Kabobo "aka' Sarbinto Batracien" and Chikito Mutakatif but they didn't participate.

In Congolese music they were first only using 4 mics and sometimes 5 (which was the leader + 4 singers formula and Langa Langa Stars also used 5 mics). Koffi came from 1994/95 with the formula of 6 mics in Kinshasa concerts (using only 4 in Europe tours until 1997). Then in 1999, Papa Wemba came with the 8 mics formula with Nouvelle Ecriture at Zenith when Alpatshino & Bogus Bompema came in. Koffi then followed it at Bercy using it until 2006 for Europe-tours.

Which era was the most difficult to join QL? I feel like the second generation of QL was stiff competition, because there's a lot of singers that didn't make the cut and we don't even know their names like 38 minutes and onward

Must be the 1993-1997 generation of Quartier Latin which had true 2eme voix singers (Suzuki, Modogo) and the best tenorists (Eric Tutsi & Babia Ndonga). It those years many singers came, but they coudn't make it the 6 mic line up of Suzuki, Modogo, Willy Bula, Babia Ndonga, Eric Tutsi & Sam Tshintu. While the generation of Force de Frappe-Danger de Mort hadn't real tenorists and excellent 2eme voix singers. Also they feared competition when real singers came, while the generation of Suzuki weren't fearing competition.

That Attentat team was so special. Very underrated.
