Wemba said here that he quit World Music because of seeing that Wenge Musica and Koffi Olomide started to dominate the music-scene in Kinshasa. But his fans always saying to me that it was not true and that it was because him not wanting to accept "certain things" that Peter Gabriel asked him

There were rumors that Papa Wemba and Peter Gabriel had a fallout after Papa Wemba's 1995 Emotion album.

I remember Papa Wemba saying in an interview with Marius Muhunga back in 2010, that he left because he wasn’t happy that Peter Gabriel prefered to promote Fa Fa Fa Fa instead of Show me the Way.

Former Viva musician Luciana and some other people close to Wemba said that Peter Gabriel wasn’t happy for the way Wemba used to have concerts with Unibra in Kinshasa, often placing in voice in multiple albums of Congolese artists, Having concerts with Viva La Musica in France,  instead of fully focusing on their collaboration.
