Today it’s 24 years ago that Werrason performed at Bercy. Background. After the succesful tour of 1999. Werrason was wondering where to perform for the next Europe-tour, he had still Olympia on his head, because of the missed opportunity in 1999, the anger of JB having performed there before him and how the press used to hype it months long on tv and the pressure from fans that year when not doing Olympia but Palais des Sports instead.Just before performing at Stade des Martyrs in 2000, he decided to come with a public vote for his fans at Zamba Playa and them having to vote between Olympia, Zenith and Bercy. The majority voted for Bercy. In reality Werrason was a bit scared to do Bercy. He was despite the huge succes of Solola Bien wondering if he would be able to sell the venue out. In the meantime he would a short trip in Europe (London, Paris, Brussels) to give press-conferences to promote the event and later on fanclubs started to mobilize fans. In the same period Werrason gave succesful concerts in Gabon, Angola, Pointe Noire and different concerts in Kinshasa. His triumphal arrival in Luanda (Angola) surprised him, making him realize that his succes was not only in the Congo’s. He would sing about his triumphal in Luanda in the song Kibuisa MpimpaAlthough talking about Bercy, there was not a concertpromoter yet. Until Monsieur Yann, who already worked with other Congolese artists contacted Hugues Luvelela. Like late Jean Pierre Saah (JPS Production, Monsieur Yann was impressed about the old VHS of Werrason performing at Palais du Peuple. He wanted to let Werrason perform at Forest National in Brussels, but since that Maison Mere was looking for someone to produce them at Bercy, he said that it was better to plan it at Bercy, them meeing Werrason and set a date. It was first set for June, then July and later on they ended up by picking September 16. Them changing date made rumors being spread about old manager Claude Maluma wanting to block the concert, who was in conflict with both Werrason and JPS Production. In the period, that Werrason went to Europe for a series of press-conferences for his Bercy-show. Rumors in Kinshasa were spread about Fi Carré and Burkina Faso joining WMM. Who were apparently not happy for JB leaving them behind for the trip that was meant for the mixing of TH. Werrason claimed in interviews not to be aware of it. But WMM-donors would try to convince them and their family-members with money. Burkina Faso accepted the offer and they promised him a Mercedes, which he was meant to get for the TH-trip. Burkina Faso in return demanded to play the generique of Kibuisa Mpimpa. Burkina Faso joining created a lot of polemique and BCBG-fans being disappointed. But he would not stay long because of the promised car (staff and admin claiming that he would big headed, being already a difficult person to deal with). When coming back to Kinshasa from the trip, fans would keep calling him to ask about his car and it would become more, when singers like Ferre, Baby and co all got their cars. So during a rehearsal or concert, some a fan people him and to ask about the car, Burkina replying with a rude answer m and Werrason at some point having a engough and slapping him. This resulted in his departure and influential donors trying to reconcile them, but it didn’t work. Burkina Faso also sued Werrason for it and a whole case going on against Werrason, but it went nowhere. The months between the release of Solola Bien and Bercy, there were several clashes between Maison Mere and BCBG on tv, which became even more after the release of TH. The confront JB Mpiana’s TH, Maison Mere supported Adricha Tipo Tipo who released his album HT (Haute Tension), which was backed by Wenge Maison Mere and had several guests (Werrason, King Kester Emeneya, Tabu Ley, etc.). The album title itself created alot of polemique. Before the release of HT. Bill and Celeo prepared several attacked against BCBG in their cri’s and also one against Tutu Calugi, who just before the release of TH, said that he stopped with animation and officially became a singer. Bill and Celeo claiming that they finished Calugi with “Mavondo azalaka lolendo kasi Kalonji Didier asukisa ye, mavondo azalaka kasi Kalonji Mac Donald asukisa ye. Ami benga benga number one….”, etc. The animations would end in the remix album of Intervention Rapide (Terrain Eza Miné) along with famous “Bana bazo Lia te” that had huge succes in concerts. In the same album, Bill also made a cri against TH, claiming that the album was a big flop, by remixing 1er Gaou line. When JB Mpiana released TH, musicians and spokesmen would often appear on TV claiming that their album failed also making signs with their hands that the album was nothing. Fans would also make the same signs, when TH was played in bars and nightclubs. “Qui rira le premier, rira le dernier ooh ya. Avant Kibuisa et Bercy ecouter Remix ooh. Ce a qui la faute soki disque na bino etuli ooh aah. Kasi biso to ningisaka !!! Ningana, ningana. Olandi nga na Tshiluba, na changer le coté ooh haa”. The remix album itself would get released towards the end of 2000, but could not equal the succes of Solola Bien nor fight THThe rivalry of JB against Werrason was in 2000 at his highest point and producers like Damien Dimoneke decided to make comedy-movies about it (Ngai JB to Werra) 1 month before the concert at Bercy, Aimelia Lias who was approached by donor Didi Kinuani to join Wenge Maison Mere made declarations at the press that he would join them at Bercy. But when the concert came close, there were spread that he would rejoin Wenge BCBG. He denied and he accepted the offer, when being asked to it by journalists. However, years later he would admit that he accepted the offer and was close to rejoin, but not being happy how they said that he had first to talk with Titina and Mpela before meeting JB. In Kinshasa, Werrason would ask Ferre and Adjani their opinions about Aimelia’s recruitment. Both guys being against and Ferre still having bad memories for him in Wenge 4x4 and how he refused him to join Wenge BCBG. Compared to Patient Kusangila at Palais des Sports, Aimelia would not get a whole ceremony at Bercy Before the event at Bercy, Werrason got in Kinshasa presented as UNESCO ambassador of peace, because of the work he done to help street-children (shegues). He would carry the title for his whole life hahahaha The whole diaspora was in favor for the concert. Especially when they saw that Werrason helped shagues in the VHS of his concert at Stade des Martyrs and other videos where there were images how he later on set his foundation up that got supported by UNICEF. Like in 1999, he received a triumphal welcome in Paris and whole Chageau Rouge being in fire, when coming for his Bercy-show. He also got support for those who used to support JB in 1999 (Mere Malou, Mere Eve, Pepe Akundji), them joining the Maison Mere-camp.When coming to the trip from Brazzaville to Paris. He sadly left behind 2 dancers (different rumors were spread about them not wanting to sleep with people that were part of the admi) and Patient Kusangila (who was victim of a stroke), Papy Kaniama who used to replace him also left behind. He was sure to travel since he was the main rhythm-guitarist and Japonais & Flamme sharing the solo-guitare role (later along with Burkina Faso). Patient Kusangila stroke created polemic. He received and stroke when performing in Dundo (Angola). When coming back to Kinshasa, newspapers that were pro-BCBG wrote articles about Werrason wanting to sacrifice Patient, etc. Patient Kusangila managed to recover and after months of rehabilitation, he was able to play guitare again. He thought that the group would bring him to Europe to continue his rehabilitation. But when coming to Brazzaville, he discovered that his effect pedals were stolen at Ngobila Beach and after staying at the hotel with the rest of the band, he discovered that the band traveled without him the next day and that a ngulu traveled with his passeport. It was a big deception from him and he felt betrayed after a weeks he managed to travel on his own to Europe and did one concert with them at La Madeleine, to leave them the following day. Coming to the show. People came from everywhere (UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, etc.). People claiming that even death people attended the concert. It was full of people and many saying that Werrason did better than Koffi. In the years coming, Werrason would lie for his concert at Bercy, that his crowd attence was a record setting at Bercy and that it was set in the book of “guinees record”hahahha. Those who were devoted Christians claimed that Werrason was possessed by spirits and would talk weeks long about it when the VHS came out, also talking about the Pende-statues who were on the stage. Koffi Olomidé would make jokes about those statues, which came through common friends in the ears of Werrason, who wasn’t pleased about the comments. After the succes of Bercy, Werrason staff wanted like Koffi a concert at Parc des Princes and them already talking about it. Compared to Koffi Olomidé, no French tv-channel or newspaper talked about the event of Werrason at Bercy while in Kinshasa he asked people to put the tv the following day, because they will see how they will talk about the event. While Koffi and JB atalaku’s would sing loudly about their succes at Bercy, Zénith and Olympia in their albums (TH, Attentat and Force de Frappe), Bill and Celeo wouldn’t do that in Werra’s album Kibuisa Mpimpa When the VHS came out in October 2000, it sold as crazy, but many people started critizing the sound (drum, bass, etc.) saying that it was not good and that the instruments-set weren’t on the level of Bercy. In the same period there rumors about Adolphe having left Maison Mere because of the way they locked him up in his lockerroom, stole his jacket which made him wear uniforms like Ferre, Bany and co and how Werrason did 12 on his towards the end of the show. The fanclubs and influent member tried to make them reconcile, also familymembers and Adolphe still stayed in the band, although tensions still being there. To calm him down, they released a volume 2, the following month (Adolphe complained, about the way they cut many parts of him singing or doing about to do solo-dance act off from volume 1). Towards the end of 2000, they released the live-album of BercyWhen Werrason performed at Bercy, his rival JB also performed, not forgetting how Werra tried to mess his show previous year at Zénith up, by planning the a concert the same day. JB wanted to seek for revenge and set planned a event at LSC the same day. It created polemic. People first thought that it was just to create buzz and they would end up by cancelling it later. But the BCBG-camp was serious and they arrived in Europe to do the concert. When coming to the concert, journalist were not allowed to film during the concert and only to interview the musicians before the show. Zacharie Bababaswe who was there for Werra’s show would manage to interview the musicians shortly before the show and also film the soundcheck. He sended both the soundcheck of LSC and parts of Werra’s Bercy to Kinshasa and people who saw the sound check claiming that JB did mpiaka at LSC. JB would have been mocked for weeks about it until that the VHS got released but it was already to late. The Maison Mere-camp itself spread rumors about the hall being empty and people starting believe because of the hype around Bercy and journalists and websites like Digitalcongo writing articles that JB Mpiana failed and not being able to equal Academia’s succes at LSC who performed there earlier that year. Because of that Zacharie Bababaswe who would present JB’s show the following month at the same LSC was forced by fans, to say that JB being the leader of the 4th generation. I will later the day write an article about the event around LSC
This might be an unpopular opinion but I don't consider this Bercy a sole Werrason concert I look at it more like a Maison Mere concert because Adolphe was still there and he was still equal to Werra. I still can't believe they left him lying down on stage at the end of the show.
loool i heard recently that werra's guys( biblos and co) tried to steal tata's passport so that he does not make the trip,in the group they were fearing that celeo kapaya lacoste and a couple other would follow adolphe as adolphe was already talking about affaire a tonya tonya, which was meant to be his album done with maison mere after kibuisa, and he wanted to quickly follow after because he literally had more songs than nsone at the start(werra had removed the full kibens songs to avoid that bcbg says something in their polemic so he had to call shella senado and co in emergency to replace them, the famous cassette heritier brags about for being the man behind over half of the vocals of the album because it was songs rehearsed at werra's home and done by mainly him and mabialo) so they had to do a 12 on him to block his way to materializing things quicker especially as he was already pissing them off by refusing to be a complete number 2 like blaise was doing on the other side
Yes,back when they had started maison mere and adolphe was "president" they had agreed that after their two first group albums they'd do werra's,then tata, then didier in quick succession so tata wanted to record his album in the same time so that he releases later, tata used to give the example of loi and ultimatum the same year, but years after werra wanting to get rid of adolphe made it clear to the musicians that whoever is heard in another session than the kibuisa ones is in trouble(part of the secret pre-record they did in kinshasa was re used in the kuma kukiele album of jacko)thats why celeo was late in participating in kibuisa werra was fearing that he'd follow tata so he was not sure until late wasenga insisted that celeo had to do his parts because bill already did his which were like 95 per cent of the animation of the album
