It always kills me when I see those videos on Tiktok, where it's filmed from closeby with the reaction of the public "eeeeh" after Adjani fails to do the vocal hahahahhaBut to be honest. Didier Lacoste never really convinced me when he sings the original vocal of 13 Ans. Also when he re-did Adjani's vocal of Blandine in Adolphe's Irene Mokabila. I prefer those of Adjani. I remember back in the days, Lacoste having done more than 10 interviews, re-singing his 9 vocals that were supposed to be in Kibuisa Mpimpa, but being sung by Adjani, Aimelia and Ferre. You would think that after almost 25 years, he would be over it, but he still keeps talking about it.
I think Lacoste wouldn't think about it, if he had an Olympia, Zenith and Bercy on his name. It's mostly those who didn't achieve alot in their solo-career, that keep complaining about their missed opportunities in band. But I'm sure that it would have boosted Lacoste even more if he stayed in Maison Mère during Kibuisa Mpimpa. I wonder if, it wouldn't have created a rivarly between him and Ferre and if Heritier would get that space, that he received in A La Que Leu Leu and in concerts before Double Zenith. Talking about Heritier, when Lacoste was claiming that Wenge Maison Mere-member did his vocals. The Maison Mère-camp was sending Heritier to deny it and that it was Lacoste the person who stole his vocals in Kibuisa. From that moment Lacoste wasn't appearing anymore to talk about his vocals in Kibuisa. The interviews on tv partly also boosted Heritier a bit in Kinshasa. When Didier Lacoste joined Wenge Tonya Tonya, Adolphe Dominguez made him president of the band and gave him alot of privileges, like the way Defao did with Montana. At the same time he accepted some "risks" for the band, that Adolphe was being afraid to sign for. Him joining Tonya Tonya, boosted the succes of the band even more. However, when they came in Europe, staffmembers and people around started to gossip alot about Lacoste and Adolphe decided at some point to strip his function as president of the group off and gave Shella Mputu the function as vice-president (or president. I think that it was just vice-president). During the tour he also received alot of 12. When coming back in Kinshasa, the tensions between him and Adolphe only became worser and Lacoste getting 12. Late spokemen Charly Balaka used to make fun of it, few months before his death. About the way Lacoste used to cry alot for Adolphe not liking him anymore and that he wanted to return back to Wenge Tonya Tonya. Lacoste ended up by contacting Sylvie Mampata and Mampata calling her husband (Werrason), who was in Europe at that time, to get back into Maison Mère and Werrason accepting it. Lacoste then met those who were part of Werra's staff (late Alisi Baba, late Monib Production, etc.) and after meeting with Maison Mère's fanclub in Kingasani ya Suka (which was after Masina one Werra's most important quarters/areas), he got presented at La Zamba Playa where he kneeled down in front of his fans, who had their meetings every week over there. The Tonya Tonya-camp was making fun about through their spokeman Mbonzo 'Centre Ville', claiming that Lacoste even asked to become a doorman at Zamba Playa, when kneeling down. There was a short comedy-video made in Kinshasa about Lacoste return to Maison Mere, which was released as bonus in the VHS of Werra's concert in Amsterdam. At the same time there came a VHS about his presentation at La Zamba on the market Not even 2 days after it rejoining Maison Mère, Didier Lacoste was victim of a serious car-accident and many wondering how Lacoste managed to survive, since that the car was total loss. Rumors being spread that the car-accident was a result of Lacoste breaking the oath, since that he apparently signed a pact with witchdoctors for Tonya Tonya's succes in Adolphe's place and that he survived because of being "protected" by ........ However Lacoste himself denied those claims. But years, when being a solo-artist, he was proudly saying that he indeed signed a pact for Tonya Tonya. After recovering from the car-accident, there rumors about him going to Europe to participate on A La Que Leu Leu. But it didn't happen and he just awaited to group in Kinshasa to fully rejoin them at the famous Stade des Martyrs-concert. His vocal "libulu", to claim that he was about to burry himself with Adolphe, without knowing, would get huge succes in different public concerts. The same for "pourquoi atunaki te" vocal as impro, to "advice" Ferre after Les Marquis-creation, when singing Surprise Kapangala in public-concert or adding it in Augustine with the "libulu"-impro. In my opinion he could have done more for Wenge Tonya Tonya. In Affaire Tonya Tonya, although getting a song (Bana Schengen), he hadn't alot of vocals. But it was understandble since that he joined when they already started recording the album. But in Affaire Mouna, he had next to his song just 1 or 2 vocal which is really strange, because of the status in the group.
Lol, Congo is not the West. The gap between Lacoste and Adolphe is maybe 4or 5 years. In Congo when someone is already 2 or 3 years older, the relation is seen as big and little bro. For example, if Lacoste would say on tv that Adolphe or Werrason used to be his friends, it would be seen as massive disrespect. The with Congolese bandleaders is that if someone fame grows to much in the band, they often see it as a threat. The funny thing is that when Adolphe left, Adolphe would attack him in concerts and a few times in interviews that Lacoste betrayed him, by leaving Wenge Tonya TonyaMany staffmembers and those who are around leaders, are mosly there for the fame and their own interest, to get shout-outs for free and get girls. They are not their for the interest of the band and the leaders. I don't know what they used to say. But there was a moment that it was written in newspapers that Lacoste was about to create a band with Shella and others bandmembers. Maybe that it was that that they were saying to Adolphe. At the same time Lacoste and Shella, weren't liking each other like the way the public were thinking. I remember Shella Mputu himself also claiming in one of his many interviews that Lacoste was about to create his band and that he snitched him to Adolphe, but Shella often lies in interviews, so I don't know if it's true.
