Congolese music was getting a lot press from the French and American media between 1998-2001. Sadly a lot of the footage is not uploaded to YT/social media, although we are starting to see the footage’s being uploaded.

If my memory serves me correctly, I once read a page spread on Koffi in Le Parisien in the Bercy era

If artists weren’t so fixated on polemics and wasting energy making polemics VHS’ they could’ve gotten more exposure through connections with the Western press to get more interviews and showcases

I firmly believe that due to the level of polemics post 2001 and negative press of the Ngulu affair, the desire to highlight Congolese music died out. It has returned a bit in the 2020s, thanks in part to Fally’s and Ferre’s popularity

And even still, Fally and Ferre won't been seen being friendly to each other the way Koffi was with Wemba, Jossart, and Wazekwa. It's like pulling teeth trying to get these younger guys to play nice together
