Wasn’t Brigade there with them when they collected their award though

My guess is that Brigade came late. Perhaps. Who knows.

Koffi left all his atalaku's behind when taking Quartier Latin to this trip. When they received the trophee as best group, it were Fally and Bouro Mpela shortly doing the Heros-National-cri, what Acide normally used to do in concerts.

I think that it was better if they made Montana or Bouro Mpela the atalaku in the place of Jipson. Bouro Mpela wasn't himself anymore after the Europe-tour of 2002-03.

Jipson’s voice is too “delicate” to be atalakou, so im surprised he was selected to cover over Fally.

Bouro would’ve spoiled it also was his obsession with the arab singer impersonation at that moment

Another thing I noticed is that there was very little promotion of ADE after it’s release, despite it being a great album. Even during the ADE recording sessions, their energy was being pushed towards Monda Arabe

I always wonder how Monde Arabe would’ve been if it realeased in 2003, as intended, and wasn’t severely impacted by SonoDisc going down, and comments he took personally from the elders and press about not doing proper rhumbas

Yeah Bouro wasn’t the same it was weird to not see him next to Koffi anymore whilst that was his position for his entire quartier latin career

It’s possible that Koffi thought pushing Affaire d’État too much during concerts like Force de Frappe could quickly lead to an Académia 2 situation. Jordan Kusa revealed during the COVID-19 period that there had already been tensions in Quartier Latin since 2003, though he didn’t go into details. I also remember that it was once reported on DigitalCongo that Quartier Latin had disbanded in the USA after a performance in Miami, with all the musicians supposedly having abandoned Koffi. However, that was quickly denied by Koffi himself. There are often moments that Congolese musicians want to start their own bands out of dissatisfaction, but them often changing their minds shortly after. In Quartier Latin, there were several examples, during a trip to Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) in 1998, most wanted to leave because of several factors that happened before and during the trip, but they ended up by realizing that Burkina Faso wasn’t the place to start a band. Few months later, it happened again after a show in Germany, but then again everybody changed their mind.

Speaking of tensions in Quartier Latin, Koffi himself also had issues with different band members during and after Affaire d’Etat. He hold a grudge against Brigade and Ile Cambodge because of Kerozene running away. Ile de Cambodge only making it worser by driving in street were Bibicia used to live and Koffi believing that they were dating each other, which made him both leave them behind for Monde Arabe. Koffi had personal problems with Lola Muana as well during the 2002–2003 European tour, after that Lola missed the train to perform with Quartier Latin in Switzerland and him ended up singing at a Zaiko concert in Brussels instead. After that, there were incidents where Koffi would sometimes attack Lola behind the stage during concerts. There several rumors about Lola wanting to leave, but Lola would often deny it when being asked about it by journalists. When they returned to Kinshasa, Lola was often sidelined for African tours and even for some Kinshasa concerts. Not long after that Lola would make a press-declaration that Koffi hadn’t paid him for 6 months and that the song Silivi was written by him.

About the promotion of Affaire d’Etat, maybe that there were already some financial problems within Next Music (Sono) which led to the poor promotion of the album. Just after Papa Wemba releasing Somo Trop, Next Music (Sono) both fired Koffi and Papa Wemba but after some talks with Tabu Ley, they solved the issue. However, after a few weeks it was stated that Next Music (Sono) was declared bankrupt. Despite the lack of strong promotion, Affaire d’État was still a huge success. The songs Inch’Allah, Calvaire, Biblia, Tous Pepele, Drapeau Blanc, Affaire d’Etat and Tendrement being big hits. The album itself was n2 in the music-charts of Congo and Biblia ending up by becoming 3th song of the year, behind Assistant Social and Examen.

When Koffi came to Paris for a press conference to announce his Zenith show for December 2003, he came with the excuse that Monde Arabe would be postponed, because of Affaire d’État being too successful and him wanting the album breathe, which why he pushed Monde Arabe to the next year.
However, I believe he initially set December 2003 as the release date for Monde Arabe because he was aiming to do Parc des Princes in the summer of 2004, but the plan didn’t work out. It was similar to what he tried back in 2000, announcing Effrakata for release in June 2001 and planning Parc des Princes for July, hoping to recreate that Ultimatum + Loi effect.

If it came out in 2003 I have a feeling it would’ve sounded like affaire detat which i don’t mind at all. This Kora 2003 video seems they still had vibes from the ADE album

“Did anyone notice how Bouro performed with a damaged shirt? We talked about it yesterday with my brother and he believes that Koffi physically attacked him, the same way he used to do backstage during concerts with Lola Muana before his departure
