Papa Wemba was the lead actor in the first ever Feature Film from Zaire/Congo (1987). It still remains the country's most iconic movie and made Wemba an international superstar. He was mostly an African star prior. The film was shown at Cannes film festival and won an award at Gantes 1987.
Also featured in the movie; Emoro (Pepe Kalle's famous dwarf dancer RIP), Pepe Kalle (RIP), and Empire Bakuba. They also had a earlier role in French hit film "Black Mic Mac" (1985), which made the group an international star already.
Music from Zaiko Langa-Langa (a lot since they were the hottest band then), Tabu Ley, Tshala Muana, & young Koffi were featured.
lol, so much of plot line involved kindoki. Wemba was so thin back then, its hard to believe.
I'm thinking Fally might be a good candidate, but in that case it shouldn't be all French, quite frankly.
Felix Wazekwa (Lead Actor), King Kester (RIP), Reddy Amisi, Marie Misamu (RIP), Simaro Lutumba, Papa Wemba (RIP), Adolphe Domingeuz, and more all teamed up for a fantastic comedy/tragedy called "Les habits neufs du Gouverneur". Very popular film, but the success was local. Marie Misamu's performance was very memorable.
