With Bakala Dia Kuba, Wemba’s dream was to get a “real” gold record in France after receiving one from the United States (500.000 copies) in 1999 for his album Emotion. Wemba wanted also to make a comeback to worldmusic, but on the same time wanted that the Congolese community accept his music, which made him add songs like Mawe, Bakala Dia Kuba, Mere Première, etc. Unfortunally the album didn’t became gold because it sold only 10.000 copies in France back in 2002 and it wasn’t well promoted in the French media.

Bakala Dia Kuba was released some weeks before his show at Bercy. I still don’t understand how his Bercy wasn’t sold after all those promotion his fanclubs in Brussels, Paris, London and Switserland were doing with influent people like Mere Malou, Photo Joël Mbetenge, Shaguy Sharoufa, etc. and those special t-shirts they made.
