Do Akongo reveals that he's the true author of Defao's Famille Kikuta

yeah he made also interesting revelation about how the album he recorded with fudji eboa equaliseur omba robinio atshuda and co was not released because junior mackenro was meant to be the producer and  promised him big things and suddenly koffi announced stade des martyrs produced by mackenro and when concert was over mackenro lost all the money and had to leave kinshasa,then album got stuck in studio until today
i also loved hearing that def had a plan to build many schools when he had left drc,shame it did not materialize

Interesting interview. He mentions three things I have noted.

1. Classic songs normally come as a result of the author being inspired by certain events and in that moment they write and compose a song which almost always esimbaka e.g Inc'allah is a classic song written by an author inspired by real life events. While the songs were the author sits down to with the intention of writing a song most times those songs never become successful. Eza lokola ozo force eloko. We could actually do a thread for songs that have been released but we can clearly tell that here, the song writer was forcing himself to write a song he wasnt inspired by anything. Lol

2. In the olden days its the instrumentalists who had more say to how a song will be sung, the melody but nowadays it's the opposite,  it's the singers (imagine Tata Mobich telling ba guitarists how a song will be played, lol) who are telling the instrumentalist how a song should sound or be played no wonder we have a lot of average songs nowadays being released. That's not to say a singer can't propose how a song should be played.

3. The synthe or clavier has rendered the guitarists useless in rumba music (partly the reason why the genre is at its lowest) because practically a whole song will be played with only the synthe and then a guitarists will be asked to add a small partition which actually limits the creativity and the freedom to express himself through the guitar. No wonder we have artists nowadays going in studio at 10hrs, by 14hrs they release a song. Kokamwa!

About the Stade des Martyrs-event. I think that it's Junior Mac Kenro who went towards Koffi Olomide. Because during the Effrakata-recording session, Koffi said that he was contacted to perform at Stade des Martyrs. Don't forget that both guys knew each already since a long time. Junior used to be in the team that produced Koffi Olomidé at Zenith de Paris in 1998. He was also the one who organised Koffi's first concert at Stade des Martyrs in February 1999 that went terribly wrong. I think that Junior thought that producing Koffi's event Stade des Martyrs once again and Do Akongo's album on same moment wouldn't be a problem, since that's it's just business, being also an old "muana poto" so not having that "bana kin" mentality of since Wenge war of not approaching the enemy even if it's big money. I guess that Junior saw it as a big challenge to produce Koffi and seeing also as an opportunity to make his name bigger, since that Koffi had the reputation for only performing for the elite and not really being succesful in public concerts compared to Clan Wenge, Papa Wemba and King Kester Emeneya.

To go back to the history he produced first Werrason at Stade des Martyrs in June 2001, which was a big succes and the stadium being filled to 100% capacity. Which gave him the desire to produce the rest of "Le Carré Magique". After that he immediately contacted JB Mpiana's camp before Bercy for a contract at Stade des Martyrs, which was first a problem because of Mac Kenro having Skol/Bracongo as sponsor and JB Mpiana just having signed with Primus/Bralima. However they managed to short it out and the JB Mpiana's bling bling event at Stade des Martyrs in december '01 being a huge succes. From there he started to prepare Werra's Double Stade des Martyrs event in March 2002 and that of Koffi Olomide in the same month. But Werrason changed his mind preferring to focus on preparing Double Zenith and wanting that event up on his return in Kinshasa when finishing the Double Zenith and the Europe-tour.

About Koffi's contract, we don't know what Koffi's conditions were. Maybe he could have demanded to Junior to make Do Akongo's album disappear. Congolese bandleaders often demand concert-promoters/executive producers who produce their rivals or artists who they see as potential danger to make their project disappear, when they are about to organize their big event or produce their album. Don't forget that Do Akongo's album was back in 2000 and 2001 one of the most awaited albums. We often saw it with Tabu Ley, Franco Luambo Makiadi and Papa Wemba. For example before that  Stervos Niarcos went to jail where he died. He was working on the Bateke-album, but the late Americano Mbambi and Egue Toyeye abandonned the project to produce Papa Wemba's Foridoles that got distributed Sonodisc. This frustrated the late Stervos Niarcos. The album got released when Stervos Niarcos passed away.

About what went wrong between Junior Mac Kenro and Koffi we will never know. We don't really know if what Do Akongo said about Junior Mac Kenro fleeing to Brazzaville because of that concert being true. Because himself he released his own VHS of that concert, still crediting whole staff of Koffi towards the end, explaining in the video how he organised the event, the way he and his team mobilized people in Masina, Malueka, N'djili, Kingasani, etc. to come to the concert. The way Koffi prepared the event at Cinemax. But the show being really bad and not even being the one they rehearsed at Cinemax. But nowhere he said that Koffi stole his money or something like that. The crazy thing is that the press wrote that there were problems between both guys. One press-article even saying that Junior went to RTNC to claim his money back. Rivals like Academia, BCBG and Emeneya claiming that Koffi performed for free and promised Junior to pay him if the stadium be filled. Only Junior and Koffi know the truth. But from my experience. I know 2 people who went the concert and they paid tickets. They said that he stadium was filled to 100% of his capacity, like that of Werrason before Koffi came. But that thousands of people just entered the stadium for free when Koffi came in, the stadium really being overcrowded and them like most people regretting about paying tickets for the concert.

Was the album Bateke recorded and released in 1993 or 1994?

I found another version of the album which was reissued by Ngoyarto after Niarcos death in 1995.

It was recorded in 1994. But never released, because the project was abandoned when Papa Wemba started with the recording of Foridoles. The album got released in 1995 after the Stervos Niarcos died. Years later, the daugther of Americano Mbambi decided to officialy release the album somewhere in 2007 in tribute of his father who died in 2004 and Stervos Niarcos

That makes sense it's sad that they abandoned the project.
