Pictures of Evoloko and his band Isifi Melodia’s performance against Viva La Musica of Papa Wemba at Stade du 20 Mai stadium in Kinshasa in 1977 organised by JMPR (the youth section of MPR which was mobutu's party) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of MPR that was founded on 20 May 1967. We can see Evoloko sing along with Djuna Djanana and the late Vadio Mambenga. Evoloko would lose this Fara-Fara against Papa Wemba. Apparently the public stayed quiet during their performance until Papa Wemba arrived and once he started singing Ebale Mbonge the stage collapsed and the public took him outside the stadium as a hero. It’s was the start of Papa Wemba supremacy above all bands and youngsters and also the start of Evoloko’s downfall. Evoloko's headquarter Institute at Wafania n. 6 in the Yolo-quarter wasn't anymore the reference of all youngsters, it became Village Molokai in the Matongé quarter where Papa Wemba used to live with his family and rehearse with Viva La Musica at the same time. Evoloko tried to get back on the top when his friend Gina Efonge joined his band Isifi Melodia after failing with his band Libanko, but both guys would migrate to Europe in 1978. Isifi Melodia  disbanded, Djuna Djanana would join Viva La Musica. Evoloko went back to Kinshasa after a few months and tried to relaunch Isifi Melodia, but it didn't work so he decided to rejoin Zaiko Langa Langa.





Mavuela Somo who used to be Papa Wemba's first rival also lost his fara-fara with his band Yoka Lokole at Cine-Palladium. After Papa Wemba performing, Yoka Lokole came on stage but made the historical mistake by starting their performance with Papa Wemba's song Maman Wali (dedicated to Wemba's late mother as tribute-song), this made them getting booed by the public. This was the start of Mavuela's downfall and also other things happened behind the scenes. He never recovered with his band Yoka Lokole and started also to lose his musicians Sec Bidens and Fafa de Molokai (who came to replace Papa Wemba in Yoka Lokole) to Viva La Muisca. So in 1979 he decided to migrate to Gabon.

Apparently the late Soki Vangu and Mavuela had a fall over instruments which resulted Soki Vangu giving papa wemba the instruments instead.

The conflict of Soki Vangu against Mavuela Somo was not about instruments. It was about a woman. Mavuela Somo stole Soki Vangu’s girlfriend Getou Salay. Soki Vangu was furious about that. So when Papa Wemba left Yoka Lokole, Soki Vangu decided to support him by giving him instruments to punish Mavuela. Soki Vangu’s support was very important because when Papa Wemba started Viva La Musica nor Franco Luambo Makiadi, Tabu Ley and Verckys Kiamuangana did not believe that he would succeed since that they did not saw him as leader. But everything changed from the moment he gave his first concert at Bar Type K on 26 February 1977. For whatever reason Papa Wemba immediately received strong support from the press after that event.

That's why Papa Wemba gave a small tribute to soki vangu on the song foridoles

Yeah, because Soki Vangu made Viva La Musica really exist and surive in the first days. Back in the days it was impossible to perform if you hadn't instruments or financial support. In that era bands were performing every weekend in bars and clubs. Soki Vangu was their only big donor. But I remember that Papa Wemba a little bit looked irritated on tv when he was interviewed along with Soki Vangu before Viva's first show. This was because Soki Vangu was calling Wemba every time "petit", when he was referring to Wemba after that he journalist asked him why he decided to support him.

pPapa Wemba  paid tribute to  people like  Pecho wa Ngongo, Bayern de Munich,  Shaguy Sharufa ,etc.  in the song Foridoles. Because they were the people who founded  Viva La Musica.  Papa Wemba wasn't even interested to  found his own band, after getting  fired by Mbuta Mashakodo and  Mavuela Somo from Yoka Lokole.  Papa Wemba thinking of rejoining  Zaiko or  Isifi  Lokole of Evoloko.  He even rehearsed with Evoloko in Yolo, while his friends were  recruiting musicians.  It  was because  of pressure from his friends that he accepted  to have his own band.
