As mentioned earlier, only two songs didn't receive clips. In my opinion, Osali Nga Mabe has some of Jean-Louis Bikunda's best bass work. The right mix of percussive, melodic and aggressive. Combine that with exciting guitar work from Polystar and Phillipe Guez's summery arrangements and you have my favourite song from the album. I especially enjoy the 'awa nakati ya Congo' section on this one.

Solbac, who has Mobembo credited to him, apparently participated in Position Eyebani but somehow didn't participate in Film Ebaluki. I guess there were either visa issues on his end or he didn't make the cut for the trip to France at the time.

It could be that Bozi thought that "Bana N'djili" would influence Solbac to run once coming in Europe. Solbac used to have his own band back in the late 80s called Yoka Choc, where he coached Manda Chante, Babia Ndonga and Celezino who used to be his musicians. But his band never reached the top like many other bands of that generation. So like many young Congolese people of that time he went to Lagos (Nigeria) to get in Europe. But it didn't work and after some years he went back. He tried to join Wenge El Paris, but his former pupil Manda Chante refused, like he did to many other musicians from Ndjilu who used to do music with him or knew him. So later on he joined Anti Choc.

About the trip of Anti Choc Europe in 1999, they came with a restricted number of musicians.  They just brought 2 dancers.1 of the dancers Mimi La Japonaise, was combining dancing with singing, she would leave the next year and join Wenge Maison Mere where she participated at Bercy and leave them quickly.

If I remember well Bozididn't even bring a drummer nor a rhythm player. It could be that he brought alot of ngulu's in the place of musicians who were left behind in Kinshasa. drummer Simolo Katondi and guitarist Sec Biens came to help them for concerts and recordings. Their rhythm-player Janvier Okota who used to be close to Bozi and like his confident joined Quartier Latin, after being lured by Koffi Olomide who promised to bring him to Bercy. Janvier ended up by getting left behind and would like Bizima Kodos of El Paris who also joined for a moment, go to Wenge El Paris and get in Europe with them before becoming a pastor after a few years (The funny thing is that I saw him rehearsing and performing with Bozi in Europe last year. Did he stop preaching ?). Sadly the tour of 1999 was not a big succes, most concerts of them being empty, people mostly being focused on the big war of Wenge BCBG vs Wenge Maison Mere, Nouvelle Ecriture vs Quartier Latin, Academia and the big hype of performing at big halls.

When Mimi joined Masion Mere, was she intended to sing as well or just dance only?

Bandleaders just look at the value of members in the band, also if x or y would run away. Conflicts also plays an important role, like when a singer or guitarist sleeps with the boss favorite dancer, then its 100% sure that the guy would be left behind. A good example is Willy Bula in 1995 when he was left behind in Brazzaville, while Koffi gave him the impression that he would go with them to Europe to record V12, getting also the boat at beach ngobila in Kinshasa to get in Brazzaville where they had to take the plane to get in Paris. Another good is example is when someone is suspected to create a rebellion in the band. Examples are when Baby Ndombe was about to create Les Marquis with Bill, Ferre, JDT, but when they were about to travel to London him getting suspended 1 week before the trip. In Anti Choc, singer Deo Brondo was snitched by Janvier Okota to Bozi and Bozi being mad, going to Paris with Anti Choc with his passeport and that of other musicians that were left behind in Nairobi. Deo Brondo having a hard time in Kenya and them needing to get help from the Congolese embassady in Kenya to get in Kinshasa.

Why suspend Baby before the London tour? He knew about Les Marquis since the European tour when Kibusia was recorded. If I recall correctly, didn't the majority of the band go on strike with Ferre calming them down. That's why he got two songs on A La Queue Leu Leu. He could of suspended Baby back when they returned to Kinshasa after finishing the recording of Werrason second album

Werrason suspended him because the tensions at Maison Mere were to high and staffmembers were scaring Werrason with false stories that Baby met Koffi and Koffi had give him tissues to get Werra's sweat to finish him and also the story of that a sorcerer said that he had to sleep with Werra's wife to get his fame. This all scared Werrason and made him more mad against Baby, who was already in big conflict with him after A La Que Leu Leu.

Baby Ndombé's suspension was to scare the other guys who were in the project of make a rebellion. Also to hit Baby psychologically, because when artists go to Europe, they often already give their clothes to friends, relatives and some even already get contacted by fans in Europe. After 3 concerts in the UK, Maison Mere returned home and they extended Baby's suspension of 1 month to a indefinite suspension. Baby was not knowing if he would come back. After a few weeks he started to get problems with paying his rent and had to later on to return to his family. In meantime he tried multiple times to reconcile with Werrason through Lutumba Simaro and also King Kester Emeneya, but Werrason was hiding when he saw there cars. This forced Baby Ndombe to leave Maison Mere. Wenge Maison went later once again to UK and later on Les Marquis got created.

Ferre Gola got 2 songs as reward in A La Que Leu Leu, because he was chef d'orchestre of Wenge Maison Mere, was already with Werrason since Wenge 4x4.


Les Marquis project of 2000 was totally different from that of 2003. The one of 2000 was that they went to the Kora Awards and abandoning Adolphe Dominguez in Paris. Didier Lacoste, Serge Mabiala, Burkina Faso, Aimelia Lias and Adjani staying in Europe for their own reasons. When being in South Africa, Horizon Massamba came with a contract for some concerts in Zimbabwe with big money. Werrason then asked to Ferre, Baby and Bill for their opinion about the concert. Baby Ndombe refused, giving the reasons that their visa was about to expire in 1 week and that they could get blocked in Africa when going there and that would take time get back in Europe with new visa's. While they left all their money, expensive clothes, new cars in Europe. Also Adolphe who was already on the rise of fame, could create a band in Europe with the remaining members adding Adolphe he was getting sympathy from people, going to bars and restaurants saying that Werrason did him dirty and a bad guy. Baby Ndombe's opinion influenced Ferre and Bill who agreed with him. Werrason said ok. But Horizon Massamba and the other guy weren't happy, because they already took their percentage of the money. So to influence Werrason, they came with false stories. From that moment Werrason saw Baby Ndombe as a traitor. The conflict became worser when Ferre, Bill, JDT and Baby went to a playback-concert at Chez Ntemba Nightclub with Extra Musica, while Werrason had also a playback at a nightclub with his dancers, wanting them to go with him, not knowing that they already accepted money. The misunderstanding brought the conflict to another level and Werrrason insulting Baby Ndombé and the rest (mostly Baby). When the guys came back to their hotelrooms, they wanted to leave Wenge Maison Mere and said that they would create their own band. JDT then coming with the name Les Marquis. The next they planned to go back to Europe without Werrason, who was left behind with the dancers, Mimiche and Papy Kakol. But when arriving at the airport they were blocked, because JDT got arrested after smoking weed at the airport. So they needed help. Werrason then arrived with the dancers, nd immediatly attacked Baby Ndombe and starting even insulting his dad. This resulted in a fight between Baby Ndombe and Werrason. Later on the guys calmed down. The late Wasenga Kipuni then came with a trick and succeed in reconciling both camps. They then all returned back to Europe and started with the recordings of Kibuisa Mpimpa and Werrason's trust in Baby Ndombé became really strong until that it got damaged once again during the double zenith-tour.
