From the early 1990s fanclubs of bands started to have a lot of impact, most of them having at least 1 in every area of Kinshasa, them being busy to mobilize fans for huge events, fara-fara, mobilization of fans to prepare the return of their band from an Europe-tour sometimes them also looking for most beautiful girls to give them to the musicians. I think that the hype really started when Wenge Musica returned from their first Europe-tour in 1981 and fans having written t-shirts with the name Wenge Musica written on it. In the same period late Jules Biselele and late Jean Belis Mfumu creating fanclubs for Wenge Aile Paris in Kinshasa which helped a lot for the promotion of Molangi ya Malasi and Nganga Nzambe in Kinshasa and also their arrival in Kinshasa of 1992 & 1993 and which had a huge impact. From 1999 to 2003, the role of fanclubs would extremely important for the events at Stade des Martyrs. Koffi Olomidé who didn’t had that many fanclubs like Clan Wenge, would see in the weeks before his event at Stade des Martyrs, fanclubs being created in Tshangu (Masina, Kimbanseke, N’Djili) and even places like Mikonga, Mpassa and Malueka. The importance of fanclubs started at some point annoy the old generation, claiming that it was killing music.

The succes of fanclubs was so huge that they also started appear in Europe from the/late 1990s. Them being important for the uniforms the girldancers/singers would wear at huge events and sometimes also the outfit of the bandleader. They were also important looking places for musicians to sleep at a tour (an influential member then taking 4 with him others 5) because of hotels being to expensive for them to stay for like 6 months, the food, etc. Like Kinshasa, they were also important for mobilize people to give artists a warm welcome at the airport and the promotion of huge events in Paris and Brussels. But from 2004/05, the impact of it started to go down both in Kinshasa and Europe. But what was the reason of it ?

Deaths of important members, switch to religious life for some and most importantly huge disappointment from those fans towards the leaders, especially when the ngulu business collapsed, them who would be welcomed at leaders' home even when leader is sleeping would now be told that leader is out and they dont allow somebody in anymore so now leaders cover up for it by intensifying matolo to politicians, but the difference is that those guys dont have a clue at all about how to organize things around musicians tour and musicians are too proud to make a step towards the OG's of europe who used to help them, for example heritier and fabro are coming 20 years ago the whole tour plan of what musicians would be wearing, where they would be eating, where they would be sleeping with people even fist fighting literally to get the "privilege" to be the one taking them at home was already sealed, but today it would be heritier and fabro remembering musicians to think about somewhere to sleep or even sarcastically tell them that they'll end up in streets if they dont do  like " musicians" and autohandle them without always needing the leader's help
and also women who used to be probably the most dynamic in that many got married and forced to step out of music as much as possible or got scared from the mere malou death also the combattant phenomenon and the snitching affected a lot of the business of those heavily supporting musicians,i am sure you know that  in the early peak of the werra jb rivalry some musicians were going back to kin with up to 50k in cash because they did not have to buy anything, food and clothing was granted so they just had to collect mabanga and matolo money at peace
and with all that even at national level, our musicians arrogance has massively discouraged a lot of people to be as involved as in the best, the fact the musicians say everybody is replaceable did not please a lot of people while before 2003 the language was "bana shamukwale" "ecurie ....bino boza danger"... but today the jester who goes to buy condoms for the leader to sleep his 50th lightskinned big booty woman of the year when he is tired to go raw lol or knows that the first lady is around so better not bring her some weird disease is 10 times more important than any fan club member
last factor is that politics took a too important dimension since the 2011 election, many of the young guy who would set up and keep alive the fanclubs now all went into politics either at the cost of their lives or they incredibly upgraded their lives and now consider that holding fanclub activities too low for them, you'd see them coming to shower money on them on stage without even imagining by their looks in your craziest dreams that those were the ones who were ready to walk through kin barefoot or even if their shoes were broken to do the promotion of the artists

What motivated politicians to become more close to musicians ? and accepting to receive shouts-outs on their name in their albums. Was it because of the impact of Monde Arabe and the way the clan of Sassou was getting shout-outs and them wanting the same ? Or just liking the attention they received during the electoral-period of 2006, when people around Joseph Kabila came with strategies about using musicians to get more popular to the population of Kinshasa for the elections of 2006 (Maisha Parc, etc.) ?

Because in the era of Zaire and LD Kabila it was rare to see that and politicians not wanting to be associated to them, because they were seen as “des vouyou”. Them only needing them for electoral campaigns, wedding and birthday-parties. If politicians would receive shout-outs, it not be on their real name but nickname. For example Mokolo Wa Pombo would receive shout-outs under the name Egambe Edo. If a child of a politician would receive a shout-out, it was seen as a disgrace. Back in 1983, when Papa Wemba released the song Eliana, her father who was a big politician in Brazzaville tried to forbid the sales of the vinyl’s  in their country and felt offended for the way his daughter got a song.

The way politicians receive shouts-outs and exaggerated praise during concerts is really annoying, especially when you see how things are not really doing well in Congo, people not receiving their salary for months and people being afraid to get attacked at home in the night by unpaid soldiers or kuluna’s.

Why was the death of Mère Malou scaring some women off ? For the way “she died without christ” ?

About the Mere Malou death JF Ifonge contributed a lot to the rumours surrounding her and regarding her death, cause according to JF, Mere Malou despite being a beautiful woman and who could of easily married, she spent her life running behind musicians and always according to JF using her Nzemi (Pregnancy) to offer to musicians do they could boost them powers while she left without anything. I don't know if that is true or not, but JF Ifonge have a lot of people who see him as a credible source and a lot of woman seeing that example when facing the same situation they decided that it was better for them to step down from a world of 🎶

I legit chuckled when you mentioned the lightskin big booty woman part, cause in your post you always say hiw leaders are obsessed by these type of women. With that said I think Leaders really failed an enormous chance, actually they failed two enormous chances.
1st in those periods where migration controls weren't that strict they failed to do as Fally did to work with French and Belgian authorities to make Congolese people and in their case Congolese musicians as a privileged status that could travel in and out of Belgium and France how they want, tbh I don't know who switched on the Ngulu affair but it was a n extremely stupid move cause despite having a small victory over the short run (seeing your rivals artist being sent out) it was a very big lost in the long run given how now all of the Congolese people pay price for that case.

Tbh treating people like crap after they do all that and welcomed you in their home offer you food it is simply insane to me, sometimes Congolese leaders act like 10 year old children's.

The second big failed chance was to not work with streaming services or to not transform the Congolese music industry of CDs etc. With the money they got from donors instead of flashing and wasting money on women they could have started music companies that employed real label owners PRs, Writers and be regularity since they already had other businesses in places and when streaming came make sure that the big artists like Koffi, Werra, etc. Could have a small piece of the lie by being given a percentage over all Congolese streaming and so on, but now that possibility especially given how much Congo got poorer completely vanished.

I think that you are talking about late Loris la Congolaise who passed away during Covid, who made an interview with Noly Tambu, saying that she regrets about avorting 14 times and JF Ifonge then profiting to make videos about it and also when she passed away.

Because Mère Malou wasn't beautiful although the massive respect people of "milieu" used giving her. Back in the days people used to make dirty jokes to mothers that used to exagerrate with make up or clothes, calling them Mère Malou

from 3:54 min This is Mère Malou
