I could be oversimplifying the problem, but as the Congolese artists starts to make real money, maybe they should write a will or establish a trust fund.

If upon death everyone pretty much knows who inherits what from the source's mouth, random family wouldn't feel so emboldened to stake a claim for property and money.

You are talking in western terms, but Congo eza Congo there is no will or trust fund who a person could write that will stop a family to get the money or other things from a musician who is dead, you could never prevent fight between family when the musican die because verybody wamt something for themsleves and have no will to share it

I was referring to the way Chirac said he suddenly heard that the former governor Gentily Ngobila gave $25,000 to the musicians for General Defao’s mourning, but that he himself hadn't been informed. Maybe that they tried to reach their oncle, which I don't believe. But I just noticed when the governement or provincial authorities being involved in funding the funeral or mourning of an artist, you always hear things like: they gave $100,000, $150,000 or $50,000; that artist X or Y stole money, the head of Socoda did this or that the family received nothing or just peanuts.

When Defao passed he was having financial issues, so he didn’t have an estate or an heir to pass on.   I assume the point of contention was the money received by the state.
