Who sounds the most like King Kester. VOTE and say something.

It's Joly Mubiala who sounds the most like Emeneya, if you listen to the vocal of him in the song Kimpiatu you think that it's Emeneya himself. Till this year many don't know that it was Joly vocal, from 6:04 min.



Marie Paul has his own voice, if you listen alot to Wenge El Paris say that im right. There moments that he tries to sound like Emeneya, but in his career he imitated ex' Zaiko singer Gina Wa Gina the most (who he his like Evoloko and Emeneya his idol), the song Britanny is a good example.



Werrason has also his own voice, before the Bouger-Bouger era he tried to sound Emeneya. But he sounded more like Mopero Wa Maloba, who was Emeneya ex' mentor apparently the man from where Emeneya got that style of singing from, after imitating Gina Wa Gina for years. Here you can here Werrason trying to imitate Emeneya, but sounding more like Mopero, from 3:27 min.



JB Mpiana who liked to imitate Wemba and Debaba alot in the past also tried to sound like Kester, but like Werrason sounds then more like Mopero than Emeneya. In this song he's to accompanying Blaise Bula (who was at a time also imitating Emeneya, who then the biggest star of Zaire).





If you listen alot to Reddy Amisi, you will say that he has also his own voice.

I have to go with Joly. when I first heard heard Bravo Cathy when Foridoles first came out, I was shocked thinking Wemba and Kester reconciled, when really it was Joly's voice.

Marie Paul, and to a degree, Werrason inherited mannerisms from Kester, but they ultimately had to create their own singing styles.

Reddy, in my opinion, has a more husky, rustic voice, so he's in a different category.

Indeed I agree with everyone. His brother Joly sounds almost like him 100 percent. I listened to Mokili Ngele, I cannot believe that it was Joly because I thought it was Kester Emeneya but I figured that it was Joly since Kester and Wemba had a huge fallout and never recovered and the last song they did together was actually on Koffi Olomide's song Tosuka Wapi which was in 1984.

But second place has to be Reddy Amisi. Yes his voice is more huskier indeed but Kester's voice was also somewhat husky too to some extent. Now I have listened again to some of Reddy's songs and I am stunned that at times, I felt that it was Kester Emeneya singing. I believe Papa Wemba hired Reddy Amisi because he sound very similar to Kester Emeneya. Reddy's voice definitely reminds me of Kester too.

It is true that Marie Paul intimated Gina's type of singing but even so, he sounded much more closer to Kester Emeneya than Gina in my opinion. I have heard a few songs from Marie Paul, I feel more Kester like effect than Gina effect. With Gina Efonge, you have to be more high note solo singer. Marie Paul is not that kind really. With Marie Paul, it was much more raspier than Kester's voice which explains why Kester loved being around Marie Paul more than Werrason.

Werrason to me is closest to Kester Emeneya in Wenge Musica. Blaise Bula reminds me a little of JP Buse except Blaise's voice was much relaxed than JP Buse's voice ever was. Werrason was Emeneya alike singer in Wenge Musica. I have listened to Kala yi Beoing again, I realized with Werrason, I felt a Kester alike singing with him. Werrason sang similar to how Kester would sing when he was younger. The problem was that Werrason lacked the diversity in singing that Kester had. Werrason was a monolithic singer and never had a ability to diversify his voice. But Werrason had moments where it sounded like Kester Emeneya.

If Emeneya preferd to be more with Werrason then Marie Paul in past, then it was because Marie Paul was Emeneya "pire petit". They used to hang out alot even when he joined Wenge 4x4.
He even supported him alot in starting Wenge EL Paris, giving him guys like Mabusele and Joly Mubiala in the recordings of Ricoco's solo album Molangi Ya Malasi. Emeneya was Marie Paul uncle. Things went wrong when Emeneya slept with Marie Paul's wife, but despite that Marie Paul has still Emeneya in his heart

Werrason and Emeneya were never close, because he saw him and the Wenge guys as little puppets. They started talking when Werrason was looking for advice, some weeks before the split and became very close after the split. With Werrason visiting him alot at the King-Ranch. Maison Mere was even invited to Kester's concert at YMCA before their official first concert. Relations between both became cold when Werra got huge succes and started to forget the things Emeneya did for him.

Werra and Emeneya collaborated in a song in 1999, like mvulusi said, they drifted when Werrason went "big time" attitude-wise. Admittedly, Werra barely sung in this song, but it's very clear they sing differently



Kester once explained his singing style, which, if I recall correctly, came about when he overcame asthma and sung with slightly higher nasal intervention (as opposed to just coming from the lungs) compared to other singers.

Definitely his brother Joly. The closest and not on the list is Wenge BCBG's Sakoko.

The others use Kester's style but have their own voices that includes Marie Paul and others. Reddy Amisi has a bit of Kester's style but he is more aggressive and has a deeper voice and he too has good copycats like Abel the Charm formerly of Wenge BCBG and others in Wenge BCBG, Wenge Maison Mere and other bands.

Actually Kester Emeneya did sing in Bolingo Tosuki Wapi as well as Henritie, Marie Azur, and Lady Bo. Kester just sounded really young in those songs. It was not Koffi and Wemba alone, Kester's voice is on that song. After Bolingo Tosuki Wapi, Kester and Wemba never sang together ever again on a record. That never happened again.

Thanks for reminding me about the conflict. Indeed I heard too that Kester Emeneya and Werrason had a major fallout. Nobody wants to believe but I do think it happened. It is terrible since Werrason was a Emeneya alike singer and grew up being influenced by King Kester. My guess was that Werrason became too arrogant and did not care to mention Emeneya as one of the reasons why he had success.

Yes you are right Matebu. I said that before. But even on this song, I still a Emeneya affect on Werrason's brief solo. Like I said, Kester had more diversity in his voice than Werrason did. Werra was more lower and deeper than Kester Emeneya was. But yes indeed they sang differently but here Werra still sounded like Emeneya in his low vocal singing. But after this, then Werrason became more different like today.

Interesting I forgot about Abel. What song did he sing on? As for Reddy Amisi, indeed they are copycats. One of them was Serge Mabiala. He similar to Reddy Amisi to some degree. There was another one that went on to sing with Koffi on a breif solo. He had a solo vocal on Werrason's 2004 sebene song. He too reminds me of Reddy Amisi. There are more popping.
