Thanks for the post, this takes me way down memory lane. I had lost my vhs years ago. 

He told the interviewer that this was his best album yet (for that time). At roughly 16 minutes you can see his old house in Bandal and of course Bouboul Yondela always by his side

@adrien ; even though this was my favorite Koffi era - it pains me to say that had he stayed this way he would’ve gone the way of other crooners/colleagues  - Carlyto, Dindo, Luciana, Nyboma, Debaba before he went religious and so forth.

He adapted for longevity and to get to a higher fame level - with that some consequences

He and Defao made their  career defying change to more local dance and appealing to the younger audience at roughly the same time-1992-93

@mvulusi 96 during the 80s and 90s, I think Koffi was a very humble person. He was doing things simply without wanting to be the best but just producing good music. You only have to see during this interview at 13:35 when the journalist asks her "it will be the best album of the year 1992" (speaking of "Koweit", Rive Gauche) and he answers that "He does not make music for glory but for the happiness of people, it is not the glory to be better than this or that".
The competitive period with Wenge Musica pushes her to excel herself to provide us good music but the controversies and conflicts have reached her too much and made him lose this humble and serious character that he was from "Attentat" ( when he was in conflict with Papa Wemba, Nyoka Longo ...). He still continued to produce quality albums (Effrakata, Affaire d'Etat et Monde Arabe) but he was not involved in the same way and followed his artistic decline despite the success was still there.

@Matebu it was also my favorite Koffi - era, you're right, there was a good chance that Koffi would have finished in the same way as Carlyto, Nyboma, Debaba ...

Koffi's problem is that unfortunately he did not keep the same singing techniques he had in the 80s and 90s.
When we compare V12 and Effrakata (I choose these albums because they are these two best solo albums during the 1990s for V12 and 2000s for Effrakata), there are masterpieces in both albums but in six years (1995- 2001) Koffi completely changed his singing style and that's where the Tcha-Tcho era came to an end and thus caused in part the artistic decline of the so-called "Rambo"
