At 16 th minute he hints that quentin moyascko who was then the president of the group as he was the oldest of them all (before kingstall and oxygene the rest born in mid 1970's) made petition within the group and signed himself in the name of all the group members that they'd have to reorganize structure of the group,kick out manager ferreol gassackys and make the group become pretty much his  and they had a reunion in which obviously most of the group disagreed  so quentin and those who were on his side left the group and they said they left with the identity of the group which is why they did etat major with such determination to prove them a point

I was about to post it lol. Apparently Quentin and other Extra Musica-members saw like Ferreol Gassackys was scamming them and weren't happy the way they were paid. So they wanted to fire him. Many musicians wanted to follow him, but didn't believe that he would succeed. So only Regis Touba, who started to be on the shadow of Abilissi and Durrel who wanted to play lead followed him. Joined by former Extra Musica-members Christian Ambe and Guy Guy Fall (who didn't last long).

That was a huge competition man. Extra Musica Zangul vs Extra Musica International. We need that kind of competition back, instead of unneccesary polemic. Yeah, Etat Major was a huge succes, but Extra Musica International hit them very hard with Super Helico. Then Extra Musica Zangul reacted  very hard with Shalai and Extra Musica International responding back with Merci (that generic 007 was a masterpiece). With Extra Musica Zangul giving them a big smack on the face with Trop c'est Trop (enough is enough) and Extra Musica International not more standing up (ti lelo).

So sad that our journalists don't know alot about Extra Musica and Brazza-music. It could have been more interesting if Ingrid Kabongo and Ado Yuhe went more in the details about the preparation and succes of Nouveaux Missiles, the problems which led to the split in 1998, the big events (Abidjan '97 and Zenith 2001), the way they were struggeling to go back to Europe after Trop c'est Trop and the way he left his role as lead-guitarist to become the lead-singer of the band.

Roga Roga is a big hypocrite.He did everything to let Quetin's, Oxygene's, Herman's and Guy-Guy Fall's career fail to be alone in the competition to be alone in the game and now he is claiming that he wished them good luck, etc. acting like was an angel in that story about the separations.

Extra Musica Zangul that is clear. Extra Musica International dissapeared from the music-scene after Merci. Quetin released in 2007 an album called Virgule, but it flopped.

People said that Abilissi left because he was scared of Papy Jah, but I don't believe. It was surely about money. Because at that time he was a big star in Africa, so why he leave without reason. In 2003 he released a solo album called Jugement. But he had back luck, because JPS Production closed his door, when released his album.

He's in Paris now, people say that he is addicted to smoking weed. This was the last video a saw from him.

Yeah, I heard that the Zenith of 2001 was the point of no return. They couldn't secure a European tour after that which further compounded the already exisiting issue of money.

Poor Kila Mbongo, you think they'll ever be a true reunion of Extra Musica Zangul? I wouldn't hold my breath, either the remaining members are still angry with Roga Roga about the past or have become too distant to reignite that chemistry. They tried some years before, but Roga Roga's ego made the concert difficult...I'm doubtful if they'll want to take another chance.

As for Trop C'est Trop, there are a couple songs that have clips which never made the album. They should of kept Karen Amour, well composed, Arafat did amazing cries, and the sebene was fire! What were your favorite tracks from that album?

Is it really true that Roga Roga played lead guitar on Cameleon by Koffi? Wasn't the song recorded in South Africa? If I'm not mistaken, Extra Musica would have been in Europe recording Shalai. Unless their album came out before Koffi's...for some reason, the solo sounds like Felly Tyson.

I can definately see the connection though, the guitar tones Roga Roga was using for Shalai is similar to the sebene on Cameleon.

CNN did an amazing job on animations, by the way! Held it down, for the most part on his own...what happened with Ocean Ebele on that album? He was present for those promotional videos when QL was rehearsing songs from the album, but he's absent in the album and clips.

He's probably on my top five list of artisit who wasted their potential, he shouldn't of left QL so quickly for Europe. He did great on Force De Frappe! Same goes for Kaps Kapangala, Eric Tutsi and Adjani

I'll answer some of your questions. Yes, Roga Roga played solo on Cameleon, his improvised QL guitar licks were head-and-shoulders above Tyson's. Real sweet and intricate licks. And you can tell he did it in one take. 

Roga Roga was also invited to Bercy. Koffi has lots of respect for him and they are good friends.

What I've heard was that it was only CNN on Attentat because Koffi wanted to counter Tutu's popular solo animation work on Titanic. Even though Ocean had a pretty good run, it was crazy how CNN overpowered him.

I love Trop C'est Trop so much, it's hard for me personally to choose a favorite song. If I were forced to choose from the CD, it'd be a dead heat between Gambala, N'Julie & Zangul Zangul.

A full Extra Musica Zangul reunion... nah. They last time they tried the 20th anniversary reunion, Roga Roga completely disrespected those who participated. It was disgusting to watch.

All albums from Nouveau Missiles until La Main Noire were arranged by Roga Roga himself assisted sometimes by Espe Bass and also Durrel Loemba (before the split).

Karen Amour, Papato & Bikissa Nga Kayembe weren't on the cd, because there no space anymore. In my opion it was better to release Trop c'est Trop as a double-cd album, like Shalai.

A big part of Attentat was recorded in South Africa, when they came for the Kora Awards 1999. Extra Musica was also present during that edition but they lost against Biso na Biso. Some parts were done in Paris, which were those crossover songs African Kings, Si Si Si and Chocolat with Philphe Guez adding some ingredients on Sans Anesthesie, Non Assistance, Tchernobyl, Boda Bodack & Kamutshima.

 Who played guitar(s) on Boda Bodack? That track is among my favorite Rhumbas, I like the spanish guitar plucking in the background! It's a subtle but nice touch.

Academia's Sanction was neck and neck with Koffi's Attentat in terms of Rhumba and sebene quality. Ingatitude, Otan, and SDF, ect

Quarter Latin Academia already had enough singers and musicans for a follow up album, they could of added dancers but anything more than that splits the money too many different ways. Hence Academia's imploding after Viagra...

Why do spinoff groups keep doing that? As soon as they strike gold with their debuting albums, they want to return home and start recruit reserves.

They should at least wait two successful albums in before recruiting further, by then you've established a known amount of revenue from record sales, endoesments, and touring to recruit accordingly.

I don't know. I only that he invited guitarists like Yves Ndjock, Saladin Feirrera & Rigo Star for those crossover songs. I think that it is Rigo Star. Because he already played those Spanish guitars in Coucou and Monopole. Attentat was Rigo's last album with Koffi.

Attentat has better rumba's than those of Sanction. Ask people if they can sing you rumba's of Sanction from the beginning till the end. Many people doesn't even remember the songs. While Non Assistance & Sans Anestshie are now considered as classics. I remember those Loi & Attentat days, when he was teasing people with Non Assistance.

It took Koffi alot of time to convice people with Attentat, because many buyed at that time "version radio". It made people doubting if that gold record received at Bercy was real. But after 3 months people started to like it. But till this day you got people who don't like Attentat.

I like the way how some songs were recorded in live. (Victoire, Malanda Ngombe, Number One, Nul n'est Parfait and the generic). Because the all his album have a studio-sound with some sebenes and even generics being copypast. It always amaze me how they recorded the sebenes of Loi and the generic on the last minute. Loi was already finished, since that they recorded at that same moment with Ultimatum. But the succes of Feux de L'Amour made Koffi bring Champion, Do Akongo, Felly Tyson, Lebou Kabuya, Pathy Bass, Somono and Mboshi quickly to France in Novembre 1997. In order to rework the sebenes they recorded, inviting also Ikonola, who was a mbonda-player in Viva La Musica. With Mboshi animating some animations of Wenge, which they never animated in concerts of Quartier Latin hahahaha (Bayeba te, somo and that of La Reference). Tabu Ley was right about Koffi wanting to copying Wenge hahaha. Waiting their albums, while that of him already finished and then putting their cries in his album. Affaire d'Etat is the only album with not a Clan Wenge crie from the 1992-2006 period. Maybe it was better for him to use some Maison Mere cries in Affaire d'Etat (Koyimbi-Ko), like the way they used alot of cries from Affaire Tonya Tonya in Effrakata.

Spinoff groups makes those mistakes of recruiting alot musicians and girldancers. Because they want to prove their ex'bosses. But they forget that their ex'bosses had already 20 years or 10 years experience as solo artist, alot of donors behind and a good amount of money. Which made it possible to pay some keymembers. While they have nothing and just are in the beginning of the game. The thing about returning to Kinshasa is to prove that they are a big band. But those things always creates problems, we saw that with Wenge Aile Paris & Les Marquis. The reasons of spinoff groups splitting quickly is that the members were already known in their previous band. So when they create a spinnoff leadership wars appears. While bands who coming from nowwhere last long, because their objective is to break trought in the Congolese musicscene. Which made them last a least 5 years with from then leaderships war starting. We saw that with Zaiko, Wenge Musica, Extra Musica, who all came from nowhere.

You made a good point, Quarter Latin Academia is more well known for the polemic with Koffi than perhaps the actual music. Koffi is luck you weren't around to advise them or perhaps things could of gone very differently kiekiekie!

It's funny because I live in the United States, many of my classmates were surprised that Congolese music has "long" runtime. The average American song is between 3 and 5 minutes unless it's rock music. They definately appreciated Attentat for the musical arrangement and unique vocals, many were fascinated by CNN...I had to explain what exactly an atalaku is.

Some were confused because they figured it is a rapper, but some were taken aback because his vocals are more melodic compared to rappers in America. I'm glad about the Black Panther movie, it's rebirthed an interest in Africa among the African diaspora here.

My mother dislikes Attentat very much, but she's a huge Wemba fan. She felt that Koffi was taking the polemic to a shamelessly low level with songs like Nul n'est Parfait and Malanda Ngombe.

That's interesting you've brought up animations from Koffi and QL albums, because I just read a page from this forum that covered this topic. The animator on V12 and Magie is a vocal carbon copy of Roberto Ekokota, I'm surprised that didn't start conflict between Wenge Musica and QL at the time. The Wenge Tonya Tonya animations from Effrakata didn't surprise me too much, since Bebe Kero and Brigade were tested by the group shortly before QL.

By the time of Affaire D'Etat, I suppose the days of solidarity between atalakus had come to a end. Style Moomberg by Bill Clinton basically started the trend of monopolizing animations. I'm surprised they didn't at least try, nearly everyone was doing those cries!

Whatever happened to that guy from Magie? He did fantastic on V12, I'm surprised Koffi replaced him instead of pairing him up with Mboshi.

In the end for Academia, they spent too much time trying to attack Koffi for their own good - they didn't develop more important things. Meanwhile, Koffi himself didn't care so much as he was reaching new height of success.

Koffi always was quick to adapt to the amnimation and atalakou styles, but in 1995 Kin people were moving on from the Ekokota animation style to tenors and falsettos like to Djouna Mumbafu (interesting because he was on the scene so long before). Koffi poached Somono from his short stay in Zaiko Familia Dei.

Yea, Black Panther got lots of African Americans proudly embracing African culture for the first time in their lives. It's a shame for many the extent of their African knowledge is based off "Coming to America".

Almost all the times I've exposed my western friends to Congolese music, especially sebene they were blwn away. It's so different from anything they've heard before.

That shift in animations in the late nighties marked an unexpected downturn in Roberto Ekokota's career; I was surprised that he had no new cries for JB Mpiana's first solo album and his complete absence in Titanic despite being credited with the generique.

I've read that his voice was going due to years of shout animations, but he did well performing Kin e Bouger at Bataclan of 1998. What was the deal with his departure and what has he been up to all these years? Given the history of great cries he's given Congolese music, I always thought a rival group would quickly recruit him.

he had some personal problems after Anges Adorables, which made Calugi dominate the animation quickly in Wenge 4x4. After Feux de L'Amour he was appearing only for 2/3 songs in concerts, doing only 1 or animations. He wasn't looking happy anymore like in the past. In the bataclan-concert he gave everthing he had. After bataclan they performed at Madeline in Brussels, where he was attacked by new jacks-gangsters when the concert was finished. Having also some throat issues they found out that he had a hernia. After recovering he tried to participate on Titanic, but failed and tried then to form a band in Congo, but it didn't work. Then he decided to be on the background and quit the Congolese music-scene.
