Being a big fan of Koffi and being one of the last living legends we have left I would have liked to know what were your favorite Koffi albums

This is gonna be tough because in my opinion Koffi has the strongest discography in congolese music. Only person that comes close is Papa Wemba’s run of albums in the 80s but Papa Wemba messed up a lot of his discography when he tried to go to the World Music multiple times in his career. Koffi went on a crazy album streak from 1990 until 2004 and every album was better than the previous. You’re GOTTA include the Quartier Latin albums too. Pas de faux pas, Magie, Ultimatum. How are we supposed to pick one ? Impossible. Loi shouldnt even be a choice because of obvious reasons lol that album transcended african culture. I wanna go with Magie but honestly its impossible to choose just one. Impossible. Thats the reason why he’s still relevant, because that streak from Les Prisonniers Dormets to Monde Arabe was something else. My francophones will understand when I say “Aucun faux pas” during that 14 year period. No one comes close.

hahahaha Papa Wemba's discography wasn't strong before 1994. Papa Wemba was rarely releasing solo-album/EP, since 1982 after the split with Victoria Eleison. All solo albums which he released after 1982, were world-albums. He was really down in the period of 1982 till 1994. When Reddy Amisi, Stino Mubi, etc. started to have succes in the early '90s with their solo albums, people were saying that he was profiting of it and that he had to stop with music. With Foridoles in 1994 he proved the people a point and came back on the top. He started from then to release strong albums Pole Position (1995), Nouvelle Ecriture (1997), 'L (1998), Fula Ngenge (1999), A La Une (2000), Bakala Dia Kuba (2001) and Somo Trop (2003).

Those sapeur-albums weren't on Wemba's name, but on Modogo's and Stervos's name. Wemba was rarely singing those in his concerts, hence why Modogo created his own band Place Vendome.

Wemba's albums between 1982 until 1994 hadn't a big impact (except Proclamation). Lidjo Kwempa was saving Viva La Musica with songs like Ceci Cela, Lipanda, etc. Victoria Eleison was dominting them strongly. They were mocking Papa Wemba, when he decided to settle Viva La Musica in Paris (1986) with everybody saying that they ran away for Emeneya's succes. Kinshasa and Zaire were in the hands of Victoria Eleison between 1982-1988. They had alot of Fara-Fara concerts in that era, with Victoria Eleison always winning against them. So sad they hadn't recorded a duo-album during that time. In that era they were placing Emeneya above Papa Wemba and calling him the leader of the 3th generation. It's crazy how in no-time in lost in place to Koffi Olomide and later also to Papa Wemba. It was a big mistake to settle in Paris to long and make that Jerk-music, the Congolese people weren't ready. He gave Wenge 4x4 alot of space by that.I remember how bad they received Everybody, seeing it like an alien-album with only Nzila Velela doing well.

When it comes to strong discographies, Grand Maitre Franco is above Koffi and Wemba.

Maitre Yorgho's run went from the early 60's to the late 80's when he died. Nobody comes close. He literally dominated 3 decades of congolese and african music.

Mokusa was well received. That was during the time that he was beefing against Wenge 4x4 and killed them in the 24 communes-fara fara's (he humilated them so hard in Masina, Ndjili and Matonge). Pas de Contact wasn't really well received with people saying that Malembe Chante hadn't same charisma like Makolin, Petit Prince who defended Victoria Eleison well. Polo Kina was well received in Europe.
