Beniko Popolipo taking about his departure in Quartier Latin.

Bandalungwa , seeing those streets made me think about the past.


So that album Alerte Rouge was recorded when they were in Europe for Droit de Veto ? If that's true then it means that Somono's cri "kende kuna batinda yo" was already made before Academia and not desitinated to Babia when he created it.

What made Popolipo leave Quartier Latin in 1997 for Zaiko ?

I guess that Koffi just wanted to have Beniko back in his band for his Olympia-show, to manage Lebou, Felly, Champion and co who hadn't alot of experience with big shows. With Koffi then promosing Beniko that could record albums during tours but not using musicians of Zaiko. If you listen to the Bercy-show and compare it to Olympia you can feel that there was something missing, also with other concerts of the tour. Koffi made a good choice by recruiting Ramazani and having the very experienced Fofo Le Collgien in his band.

For me it was a bad decision for Koffi to fire Beniko and Do Akongo because those were the strong arms of Quartier Latin and they had experiences since the 1980s but surely when Beniko joined Zaīko it did not create a conflict of interest.

Sad how Koffi blocked Do Akongo in Kinshasa by sending fake documents to the Maison Schengen. He had a very promised band in Kinshasa with guys like Eboa Lotin, Atshuda, Bidjana, etc. they even recorded an album which was never released. People started to forget him slowly when things where not going the way he wanted. With him then started to sell songs to Werrason, Tshala Muana, etc. to survive.


Koffi did everything 7 years long to get him back in Quartier Latin, but he kept refusing. The same for Beniko Popolipo. Beniko is till this day angry about that and  don't really like to talk about Koffi.

For me it was a bad decision for Koffi to fire Beniko and Do Akongo because those were the strong arms of Quartier Latin and they had experiences since the 1980s but surely when Beniko joined Zaīko it did not create a conflict of interest.

For me not, because Quartier Latin looked fresh when they left and not long after that Ramazani (who already worked with big artists) joined and Fofo Le Collegien (who's a big arranger, songwriter, guitarist) was already around with them contributing alot on Effrakata, Affaire d'Etat and Monde Arabe.

I could see why they refused.I never knew Do Akongo formed a band.

That band was very promising indeed,atshuda,eboa,fudji,ibrator and many other guys i remember they did  a couple of songs for peace in DRC where werra spotted fudji and eboa
if i remember well those guys he had to sell songs to in order to survive promised him support for his group in return of his contribution but it never came

Looks like Koffi was saved by Ramazani and Fofo Le Collegien.

hahaha saved. Koffi had still his fame. There are plenty other talented musicians in Kinshasa and the rest of Congo. He could also have recruited other musicians. Everybody contributed a little part to Quartier Latin and Koffi Olomide-career. Ramazani & Fofo le Collegien were there just there like Felly Tyson and Binda Bass to compose songs, create sebenes, etc. After the departure of Fofo & Ramazani. After them we had the talented Mbetenge Domingo.
