I love this song. Yeah I’ve always hated that when the singers aren’t present for clips. If you look at the other clips released from Viagra, Mustapha and Suzuki missed a lotttt of the clips they only featured in one each. I assume this was filmed after the departures of most of that team (somono, lebou, pathy, mustapha etc)

I saw Lebou in the first version of Somunikiriye (made in France), Pathy Bass with Suzuki on Ezala Zala and Somono on Kimpwaka.

There’s another version of Somunikirye? I hope that gets uploaded I like that song, and no I think you misunderstood me.. I meant this clip certitude was filmed after majority left. Because pathy bass was present in Kimpwaka and France version of The Generique same with Lebou who was also in Jules BM.

Didn't think there'd be a clip for one of my favourite songs of the album. There's probably a few more Viagra clips that we have not seen yet.

Doesn't Sectuer A have A&R to monitor their signed artists and group? If my memory is correct, they had to part ways with their first manager Jimmy Mukelenge to join Sectuer A in the first place, so what happened to their new management?  I'm surprised a high profile music label would allow Quartier Latin Academia to break up so quickly under their watch.

Because the Europe based clips are put together so well and you can tell money was spent filming. With the new members they saw on tour, they should have been suspicious of Mustapha, Lebou, and Sukuzi absence from most of the clips.

If social media was around in the 90s and 2000s, those polemics between Wemba & Koffi, JB Mpiana & Werrason, and JB & Koffi could have been really bad. You already know how crazed their fans can be, so the amount of instigating would be insane with round the clock access to musicans lol

Of course Secteur A had A&R a monitor. Sam Tshintu and co were a little bit fed up of those many rules Secteur A was giving to them, they wanted to be more independent, so they decided to leave the label which was a big mistake (which they all regrets nowadays). For an example there was a big meeting of Secteur A-artists somewhere in Paris and they had all to perform, but Academia arrived 2 hours to late and they came when everybody was leaving the hall and their manager Kenzy laughing hard on them.

Secteur A on their side didn't found it a real problem since that it wasn't a Passi, Doc Gyneco or Pit Baccardi leaving but a African band called Academia which wasn't commercially representing alot like those rappers who were getting platinum and diamond records in France. Their first album did it a little bit well since they sold more than 50.000 copies, but they didn't got a gold record because in that era you had to sold more than 100.000 copies in France to get it. Secteur A had a big plan commercial plan for them. They wanted to let them tour with rappers of their label, to do the first part of the concert, so that it could promote them more and also organise a professenial tour in Francophone Africa (Mali, Senegal, Guinee, Benin, Cameroun, etc.) and bring them to the French West-Indies (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin & Saint Barthelemy) and French Guyane. But Somono, Sam and co didn't want to listen and prefered to rush to Kinshasa and prove Koffi, Clan Wenge and the fans a point.

About Lebou, Suzuki, Mutsapha and co missing in some videoclips, I think that its more Martin Mapangu's responsability, because he was directing those videoclips of Viagra and making the casting.

I don't think that polemic would be really bad with social media, because Congolese people were then very different then nowadays, especially in Europe. I think also that those polemics would have ended earlier, because the Koffi-Wemba beef for example was more misunderstanding with both artist responding each other like 2 months later after seeing a VHS or a staffmember informing them. It was also not a real war like Werra-JB whose fans were hating eachother, people getting killed, couples getting divorced, etc. I also think that JB Mpiana and Werrason would have been exposed about their beef being fake and musicians of both bands visiting eachother in the night.

Nowadays people found the things that Ken Mpiana and Marcahouse were doing very normal. But back in 2001/02, people would have seen it as a scandal. For example the "Alies contre Ben Laden"  VHS shocked the whole Congolese community in Europe. Because they weren't used like people in Kinshasa (who were seeing such kind of things on tv everyday since 1999) to see that kind of things on tv and most had left Dr Congo in the 80s and early 90s when they there was a lot of respect and love for eachother. Hence why the generation born in the 50s and 60s always say that Wenge killed our culture of having love and respect for eachother. Clan Wenge and Koffi went really to far. Those things could have been stopped, but those bandleaders had so much power and were corrupting the press. The ADFL-regime didn't care about that compared  to the MPR-regime of Mobutu who was always punshing Congolese artists very hard such kind of things or letting reconcile them by force. Franco and Tabu Ley had a big rivalery but were never insulting each other on tv, the same for Emeneya and Papa Wemba and Bozi Boziana against Choc Stars.  Btw in that era you hadn't spokemen like Sankara De Nkuta, Blaise Element and Zobozi or agressive musicians like Jordan Kusa. They would never let them at Tele Zaire where Manda Tchebwa was giving the info of bands all by himself and never letting musicians say something bad, for example Pinos was about to insult Emeneya on tv when he announced his arrival in Kinshasa, but Manda Tchebwa coached him and calmed him down before the interview.

I don't know. I think that they would just be a normal respected band like many other France-based Cuban and African bands produced by big recordlabels in France and featering somethings in albums of French singers, rappers and compil-albums. Like the way Guy-Guy Fall once got the chance to participate on the "Dis l'Heure 2 Afro-Zouk"-compilation album.
