I wish someone would make the investment in upgrading the equipment in the main studios because of the limitations of bringing entire bands to Europe to record.

off topic: look how the blue paint of Vodacom is slowly getting of the wall and stands at YMCA. This while there are every week basketball, judo and wrestling matches there. Not that the people working there even think about painting weekly the blue colors on the wall and stands. Only waiting for a European NGO doing that for them and if you confront them about their negligence,  they will look weird to you (like you are exagerrating and arrogant). The same for Stade Cardinal Malula (where people who used to live in Brazza, still sleeps).

Honestly, some of the JPS-produced albums had the best acoustics and mixing when it came to how the drums were recorded. They felt more natural, organic and proper aggressive when it was sebene time, especially when the toms were hit. I should know, I took drumming lessons. This is the sound I miss from our music lately.

blame the lethargic, despots, demagogue people we have at the head of things. In so many years they have not been able to meticulously plan for such, import quality materials home and work from home. When you look at other genres in other countries they seem to fare well, nigeria, haiti, to a certain extent Ivory coast. invest in good studios locally , it is easy to fix

blame the lethargic, despots, demagogue people we have at the head of things. In so many years they have not been able to meticulously plan for such, import quality materials home and work from home. When you look at other genres in other countries they seem to fare well, nigeria, haiti, to a certain extent Ivory coast. invest in good studios locally , it is easy to fix

I agree, the biggest issue with the leaders is that’s no motivation in trying to improve sound quality of their works. Half the songs from Formidable sound like crap because the recordings were rushed. Yes I said it.

The Ivorians started off recording Coupé Decale hits in basements, but nowadays Abidjan has some very good studios with the latest technology. Some of those guys are recording and releasing albums start to finish in Côté d’Ivoire. A genre that’s basically founded on Congolese music.

The studios in Kinshasa and Brazzaville sound just fine to me.

Agreed with you both, it takes the art out of drumming skills when every generique has the same drum tuning basically dated since they added electric drums before the release of Tindika Lokito in late 2003.

That being said shout out to JP Kys Kiyungu with making the best with what Studio N’Diaye has. The man has single-handed kept the genre alive. He can tune and program a song with his eyes closed and hand tied behind his back

Are these drums recorded in an electronic drum settings? Because it seems they are natural even though I can feel that the beat is always the same so maybe it was on the PC but the song (despite the lyrics) to me is a banger
