I was listening to Wake up and it made me think which albums were recorded when there were a lot of tension inside the studio and group but still the projects ended up being excellent. For me the first two albums that come to mind are Academia’s Viagra, Jb’s feux de l’amour.

I would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall during the Droit de Vèto recordings. From what I heard from insiders it’s a miracle that the album came out with the volcano waiting to explode type of tension in the QL team

-Droit de Veto (Koffi Olomidé & Quartier Latin). Some bandmembers were aparrently openly disrespecting Koffi in the studio, late Lebou even drinking beer in front of Koffi and giving rude answers, while they would normally never do that.

-Fin d'Exil (Reddy & Stino). They teamed up to prove Papa Wemba a point. But they ended up by fighting in the studio, because of Reddy being mad that Stino was wearing sunglasses and felt like he was acting to the his leader. Rigo Star tried to stop them and said that the album would flop if they would arguing. There were often tensions in the studio between the guys, who normally didn't get along. In the album there a few songs were they didn't sing together. I wonder if it was due to the fight.


Maybe also Mouna of Adolphe Dominguez, because of some bandmembers who ended up by being unhappy towards the end of the tour and Didier Anaconda at some point fighting with Adolphe Dominguez in studio, because of Adolphe having promised him to put two songs in that album, to calm him down during the recordings of the previous album. Didier Anaconda was based in Europe and used to back Adolphe in his playbacks in Brussels and Paris, when he just left Wenge Maison Mere. He also followed him to Kinshasa, to join Wenge Tonya Tonya, which led to the divorced with his ex'wife, who was against it. However, he ended up by getting just one vocal and didn't get the opportunity to put a song (which is normal, because of Affaire Tonya Tonya being a solo-album). But Didier Lacoste who joined the band months later got that opportunity, by putting the song Bana Schengen. So when the recordings of Mouna started and Anaconda realized in the studio that Adolphe was only programming his songs with Sec Bidens, which frustrated him and
he started fighting with Adolphe. This led to his departure from Wenge Tonya Tonya. Lacoste was also not happy and complaining that Adolphe wasn’t liking him anymore. Archos used to say that they put the song Inspiration on last minute in the album.

I think in Danger de Mort was also recorded with alot of tension. Ferre in the Band, Modogo Back and Fally recording Droit Chemin in the same time.

What about Feux de l'Amour ?

Actually you got some other works that had definite tensions. From Franco and Pepe Kalle edition

Franco and Le TPOK Jazz: Bomba Bomba Mabe Europe Recordings
When Franco was recording songs like Bomba Bomba Mabe and Oh Miguel with other songs, it just came when Michel Boyibanda and Youlou Mabiala had left the group as well as some members being very mad most notably Michelino Mavatiku and Ndombe Opetum whom decided to do some nzonzing work which led to both of them being suspended and Michelino left the group not long after that. Also, Josky Kiambukuta was doing a nzonzing work with Mayaula Mayoni and Youlou Mabiala called MAMAKI which reportedly angered Franco so deeply. During this time, he recruited Djo Mpoyi and Diatho Lukoki who did their nzonzing with Mayaula Mayoni some months back. It was pretty bad for Franco during these recordings from 1977 to 1978.

Pepe Kalle and Empire Bakuba: Cocktail
As some know already Empire Bakuba was admist of several conflicts. Dilu Dilumona and Papy Tex did not sing a note in this album because there was fuming bad blood between Dilu Dilumona, Papy Tex and Pepe Kalle. Their friendship was basically dead during this time. Papy Tex and Pepe Kalle were estranged due to Pepe's rage at Papy for reportedly having romantic relations with his young sister Charlie who was a dancer for Empire Bakuba. Also, most members had stabbed Gode Lofombo in the back as they felt that Lofombo was getting more and more favors from Pepe Kalle. Djouna Mumbafu was already getting hated by most Empire Bakuba as they were already looking for new animators. It appeared that Djouna and Gode began to have a semi cold war as being the favorite of Pepe Kalle. Part of the appearance of this civil war came with Gode recruiting a Djouna copycat John Scott Ortega. However Djouna and Gode were still very close friends. Also Kinanga Boeing 737 got nonimated by Pepe Kalle to be vice president which angered Dilu Dilumona and Papy Tex especially Dilu who actually wanted Kinanga out of the group years prior. Also, Pepe recruited Germain Kanza and Laudy Demingongo who got kicked out of Zaiko. Laudy and Germain would be with Djodjo Ikomo, Biya Chante and Desouza Santu as singers. Then of course, the biggest one, DELTA FORCE which was created by Gode Lofombo. This creation angered many Empire Bakuba members as they accused Lofombo of trying to kill the group Empire Bakuba. As I said before, if Pepe Kalle had remained alive, he would have two groups. Empire Bakuba Delta Force with Djouna Mumbafu, Gode Lofombo and Kinanga Boeing 737 and Empire Bakuba Kadima with Dilu Dilumona and Papy Tex.

What was he tension between those albums?

Werra, Adolphe, Blaise and some other members were against it because they were meant to record the 4x4 at the same time which didn’t happen and since they already sold songs to donors it pissed them off, also Jb receiving the most gifts didn’t help either.

Academia there was already tension since way before the recordings of Viagra which resulted with Bouro leaving. Everytime there was rehearsals it always ended in arguments. There was leadership issues between Sam and Somono and also because Sam put the most songs in the album it looked like it was a mini Sam album whilst the original plan was for the 7 admins to each put two songs in. The newly recruited musicians started taking sides and most becoming pro sam which lead to them disrespecting some of the admins, Somono got into an accident but Sam called him and told him to come the studio to record the generique and said he didn’t care if he got into an accident. It took them months to finish the recordings whereas it usually takes them a couple of weeks, but the tension was too high which led to the group disbanding less than a year later

😂😂 I really would like to know more about droit de veto, given then history surrounding the aftermath I can’t imagine the sessions 😂😂 or even any other Koffi albums… Koffi is king of petty, I bet Koffi would erase vocals or claim they got lost if Koffi had a bad day

i suspect late lebou and somono to be among those guys lol with their careless attitude lol
