"Two or three days ago, Koffi posted on Facebook about the album Elle et Moi, which came out 36 years ago. Now, different people on Facebook and TikTok are suddenly posting the hit songs Elle et Moi (which was dedicated to his daughter Minou), V.I.P., Tchatcho du Sorcier, and Coucou. The crazy thing is that the album’s release also coincides with this month, since it got released in August 1989."



The lyrics of V.I.P. was wonderful. Many guys used to copy the text, sometimes modifying it a bit, to write it for their girlfriends, as well about other Koffi tracks of the 1985-1992 era.

Classic album

If i was koffi i would  do at least one classic tchatcho album again,by classic tchatcho i mean the original tchatcho heavily influenced by music from the caribbean islands and so on,not the current tchatcho starting from V12
a album like that,without mabanga,would massively help him in imposing respect to people who dont realise how big he is,because he is releasing constantly declining stuff because of either being stuck in the new tchatcho or the attempt to stay in tune with the trends
or an album mixing the old school tchatcho and the spirit of loi,and i mean the real loi not the "chatgpt loi "of late like i call it to my friends lol

That will never happen, especially with Cindy around.

i think that album was a way for koffi to make world music without selling out completely and i think its his first classic album

Elle et Moi is not Koffi's first classic album. Koffi's previous album Henriquet (1988) was also a classic. Koffi used often to start his songs with the song Henriquet.



In 1990 music-label Stern's Africa took tracks from Henriquet and Elle et Moi to release it as a compilation album titled Tcha-Tcho. Koffi's  first classic album is Diva (1985), which made him breakthrough on the Congolese music-scene after trying it with different albums Ngounda (1984) and Lady Bo with Kester Emeneya (1984). The second classic album is Ngobila (1986), which initially went unnoticed at the time of its release but gained recognition in later years, due to Koffi keeping performing Apolosto ya Bolingo and Ngobila in concerts. The third classic was Rue d’Amour (1987), which the record label Sonodisc reissued in 1991 under the title Stephie.



The duet albums he recorded with Rigo Star (Ai Ai La Bombe Éclate, 1986) and with Fafa de Molokai (Dieu Voit Tout, 1987) are not considered classics, but they  produced iconic Koffi songs: “Chemin de la Vie,” “Ngulupa (Le Revenant),” and “Dieu Voit Tout.” Koffi still performs these three songs to this day, along with “Coucou,” “Henriquet,” “Mbabula,” and “Zéro Faute.” On some occasions, he also performs “Petit Frère ya Yesu,” “Sauve Qui Peut,” “Orphelinat,” “L’Homme de la Rue,” and “Stephie.”





Koffi was not making world-music in the Tchatcho-era (1987-1991). After the huge succes of the song Dieu Voit Tout, which confirmed his rising fame, he signed with Editions Kaluila, who had several major Congolese artists under its umbrella. At that time Koffi was making rumba-music, but he wanted to establish his own musical identity. He already distuigned himself from artists of his generation who were into La Sape (Papa Wemba, King Kester Emeneya, Bozi Boziana and General Defao) through clothing by wearing boubou's (clothing style of people from Senegal, Mali and Mauritania) and also his way of writing songs. He decided to develop his own genre, which he named Tchatcho, which was a blend of Congolese music, infkuences from the French West Indies and Julio Iglesias' music-style. Koffi started collaboration with Cape Verdean keyboard player/arranger Manu Lima together with his friend Rigo Star (RIP) with who he had worked on the albums  Ngobila (1986), Ai Ai La Bombe Eclare (1986) and Dieu Voit Tout.

Their first project was Rue de l'Amour (1987) which was a huge succes. Koffi Olomidé starting to tour different African countries (Ivory Coast, Benin, Gabon, Rwanda, etc.). He also collaborated with them on Henriquet (1988) and Elle et Moi (1989) with Koffi's succes keeping growing with every album. The last album with the three guys was Les Prissoniers Dorment (1990). Him being in conflict with Manu Lima and Rigo Star made him decide to collaborate with Philiphe Guez, Maika Munan (he participated as guitarist on Les Prissoniers Dorment) and Souzy Kasseya on the following album Koweit Rive Gauche (1992), going on a different artistic direction. However, he still thanked both Rigo Star and Manu Lima on the credits, being grateful for the way the contributed to his career.
