In this video Dezay explained how bandmembers of Nouvelle Ecriture a ran away during the tour of 1998 and towards the end how Reddy Amisi wanted to beat him, during the rehearshal for his show in Laussane (Switserland) last month.

When talking about the tour, he said that their first concert was in Brussels at La Madeleine, since that they Zoulou-gangsters prevented them performing in Paris. This made me wonder what exactely the problem was between Papa Wemba and Les Zoulous. Because back in 1996 there were multiple concerts that were interrupted or cancelled, because of Zoulou's creating havoc. For example there was a double concert planned of Wenge Musica vs Viva la Musica at Aquaboulevard, which is today known as concert de la seperation and after that Wenge Musica finished their part, it was time for Viva la Musica to perform, but when the sebene of Hymme Molokai started someone apparently shot with a gun in the air and people dispersed and the event being stopped. On the end the Zoulou's ended up by making peace and Wemba being able to perform again in Paris with peace. But in 1998, those incidents appeared again. It looks like the event of Papa Wemba's 49th anniversary being the only event Nouvelle Ecriture did in Paris during the tour of 1998.
I remember in the bonus of the cassette of Werrason performing at Palais du Peuple, Papa Wemba visiting Village Mbetenge and talking about the evolution of the Congolese community in Paris and at some point talking about the issue he had with Zoulou's and presenting one of them (JB Le Coran) to the people and saying that the problem finally being solved.

Dezay talked about how his people didn't got a shout-out, after that Pathy Patechko called him, saying that he lost the list of shout-outs, Dezay saying it's not a problem and he could write the names of people down for him and Pathy then saying that he would call Dezay back, but not doing it and giving his own people shout-outs on Recours. Dezay was really unhappy about it. 

When coming to the point of bandmembers running away. He said that he, Maradona, Azoze na Mbonda, Chantal Mogao and Chantal Niota ran away.  He said that the first one being Maradona, him running away in Germany and musicians not understanding why he  ran away since that the tour wasn't finished and some concerts ending up by getting cancelled., since that they didn't had any drummer anymore. Dezay talking about the cancelled concerts, made me wonder if it weren't the concerts of Japan, USA and Canada, since that Nouvelle Ecriture was meant to tour there, but the trip getting cancelled after they finished the Europe-tour.


After talking about Maradona running away. He also talked about the way the dancers Chantal Niota and Chantal Mogao ran away. Saying that they went to Portugal for a concert, but Papa Wemba wanting to go immediately back to France to be present at the birthday of his child he had with Toutou Kamuke. The musicians went back to their headquarter and the dancers went to place where they were staying with their choreographer Lambio Lambio and Nadou 'New Jack'. Lambio Lambio then contacted Wemba, since he wanted to be present at the birthday, he would be joined by New Jack. But because of there absence there was nobody who could control the dancers. Which made the two Chantal profit to call their boyfriends and familymembers to escape, while Mimi Tchivundu and Coco Maria were sleeping, since that they weren't part of the escape-plan and also being tired of the trip. When Lambio Lambio and New Jack returned, they discovered that the door was open and they immediately went to the chambre waking Mimi and Coco up, when discovering that the two Chantal's ran away. Lambio Lambio then immediately called Wemba and Wemba went to their place and just accepted the situation. Wemba then went to the headquarters of the musicians and informed them about the dancers running away. Dezay talking about the dancers staying with Lambio Lambio and New Jack surprised me, because the dancers of Nouvelle Ecriture used to throw shots at the dancers of Quartier Latin for being free in Europe,  when getting interviewed, while they were just living the same way like them.


Because of Maradona running away and the dancers, Wemba was really dissapointed and when going to Brussels for a concert, he went to ask to all bandmembers if he did wrong to bring them to Europe.  When coming to himself running away. Dezay explained that he  already planned to run away before the tour started, since that he didn't want to go back to the situation of doing matolo. Papa Wemba was furious and dissapointed that Dezay run away, because they had to perform in Kenya, but them not having a rhythm-guitarist anymore. Dezay himself also not wanting to go to Kenya, because he felt like it was a trap to immediately return to Kinshasa and not going back to Europe. Dezay said the only thing what he was happy about in Nouvelle Ecriture, was that after the recordings of 'L, that they went to the headquarter of Sonodisc to sign contracts, which made it possibly for each bandmember that had a song in the album to receive royalties
