FROM UNITED EXTRA MUSICA TO ROGA ROGA SOLO CAREER

In 1995,two years after the group's creation, several members arrive,like rhythm guitarist sylver ndinga aka sonor digital who was also in cogiex stars,dominique elenga aka doudou copa brought in by best friend guyguy fall,hermann ngassaki introduced by cousin and group manager ferreol gassackys,mbonda players emery boyart and gildas pozzi coming from the rival group of cogiex stars and christian kingstall  on keyboards introduced by roga roga
they release album les nouveaux missiles which is a great success and 50 000 cds sold within 5 months,and gold disk by the end of the year
the song freddy nelson is so succesful that it becomes like a nickname to quentin moyascko president of the group and its author
after success of first album,its time to confirm themselves as a big group,hence the title of second album confirmation
and indeed the group is confirmed as a big one with revelation of the year award and best group award aswell in africa musica awards organized in ivory coast
in the singers lineup,christian ambé is replaced by samba brice abilissi
the third album of the group,ouragan(hurricane or storm in english) is record one year later in 1997 with the mention "champions d'afrique"(champions of africa) and without participation of guyguy fall gone to europe
once again massive success,and the song la difference by roga roga being a big hit
but quickly leadership rivalries appear between chef d'orchestre roga roga and president quentin moyascko,a conflict used by producer simon music to create split in the group as quentin,durell and regis touba leave to create extra musica international(two years after,simon creates split again and durell creates Z1 international with regis touba,leaving quentin with exta international)
to replace them,roga roga who becomes the president hires singers papyjah and papy bastin but they do not participate to album etat major recorded in france as they are left in congo
album is a massive hit and their first generique etat major is still a classic nowadays
when back in congo,they perform in several african countries and they go back to europe with bastin papyjah plus a new atalaku arafat who does sung animation in contrast to shouting animation by kila mbongo and record album shalai they are voted best group at kora awards in south africa in 2000
this is the beginning of a planned 5 album collaboration with cameroonian producer jps
one year after,the group records album trop c'est trop without kila mbongo who remains in europe due to serious throat problems
but after trop c'est trop,unlike with other albums extra musica take 3 years to record another album,as jps starts having financial problems
meanwhile,singers fiston boko who arrives from les pipiyu of wenge bcbg,rossen superman,levyson and kerson saddam arriving from Z1 international join the group,followed by atalaku typhoide tarzan who replaces kila mbongo
in 2004,obligatoire is finally out and its leads to many conflicts in the band,roga roga wants to dominate completely the group and doudou copa leaves the group feeling unsettled
in the meantime,roga roga recruited a singer with a bit of similarity with doudou, the young dido senga
one year later,oxygene,kerson,rossen,papy bastin,typhoide and keyboard player baudouin missapi leave the group to create universal zangul
regis touba returns to the group following his bad experience in wenge bcbg but the group can not yet release another album as jps is jailed so they have to find another producer
in 2006,they sign a contract with sonima music for an album which is la main noire and arrival of singers juventus who replaces kerson,rav4 who replaces papy bastin and kassoumbalessa who replaces rossen
after that album,extra musica keep touring in africa and slowly but surely roga roga eliminates all those who could contest his leadership
hermann ngassaki is forced out of the group with the pretext that he went to promote his songs  he had released in extra musica in a nightclub and regis is also forced out for similar reasons later
in their last times in the group,they are not informed by extra's administration that the group is performing here or there and its their friends and families who inform them,they find it strange but it was actually part of the desire of roga roga to become untouchable president
same for arafat who is replaced by zaparo de guerre coming from Z1 international,and the arrival of atalaku etats unis d'amerique coming from extra musica international
only ramatoulaye and espe bass who accept his extreme dominance remain in the group along with  sonor digital promoted to chef d'orchestre
from that point,its not anymore extra musica as a unit but roga roga and extra musica with a team of much younger guys who can't contest roga's authority
and roga roga abandons his soloist role to become the group's lead singer,a third atalaku is added,de brazza, and obama synthé replaces baudoin missapi gone with oxy and co
as a sign of his authority,he records his solo album sorcellerie kindoki which is succesful in congo and roga roga reveals dream of a gold disk
currently there is roga roga's second album contentieux which is ready and set to be released in a couple of weeks
 in 2013 to celebrate the 20 years of extra musica, a concert is organized but roga roga refused to go back to soloist role for that concert and to perform next to rivals quentin moyascko and co
so they perform and leave stage then roga roga and his extra musica go on stage and heavily booed as fans did not appreciate roga's attitude

I found it really stupid that they sacrificed Blaise Kombo, was it really necessary to do it?

Tutu Calugi had really diffculty to adampt himself as an atalaku in the beginning, he was really a 'faux animateur' maybe that's also the reason that he didn't participate in the album Anges Adorables.

I'm hearing sometimes that Wenge not could perform or releasing albums in 1995, because of an conflict with Saddam Hussein like Koffi & Wenge El Paris in the past. But what was the reason of the ban? I'm sure that Wenge would not split if Mobutu still had the power in Zaire.

As archos has rightly said, Yombo Lumbu Tutu Kaludji joined Wenge Musica as a tenorist seeking to replace Manda Chante but it was Aimelia who was picked to replace Manda Chante. Tutu has another talent and it was animation so he was sent to the animation section just like they did to Ferre Gola. Tutu was unleashed on the album Pentagone and remember Ferre Gola has also claimed he helped compose the animation for the album Pentagone which came after Alain Makaba's Pile Ou Face.  Tutu Kaludji was not a faux animateur, he was perfect and completely changed the animation style. All top atalukus give maximum respect to Tutu for introducing the tenor singing type of animation, even top falsetto atalukus like Bill Clinton,Gessac and others highly rate Tutu and say he was a pioneer and after his error, it is them.

Unlike JB Mpiana who used Wenge Musica musicians and Papa Wemba as the only invited guest on his solo album, Alain Makaba had a completely different plan for his solo album and used mainly outside musicians like Dindo Yogo,King Kester Emeneya and Sam Mangwana. On animation Makaba used Roberto Enkokota the Wenge ataluku then strangely also used drummer Titina Alcapone on animation, we know Alcapone is also multi talented but that was a surprise having him on animation, it is for that even Madilu System also featured him(Alcapone) on animation on one the 1999 album L'eau.

Now this one has given another dimension all together, can I tentatively say that it's JB who brought  down Wenge with his personal ambitions?

Other people will tell you  that it's Alain Makaba's idea of the band's leaders to each release solo albums after each band album. Alain Makaba released his first, it was successful quite alright then the band released a group album Pentagone followed later by JB Mpiana's solo album Feux de l'amour arranged by Alfred Nzimbi, this won him a gold disc and got him financial success in his personal capacity especially with his links to the band sponsors. Simon Productions capitalised on the success of Feux de l'amour to convince JB Mpiana that he could be better off as a soloist as it is actually more commercially viable as a solo artist.

After JB Mpiana's solo album, the next one was supposed to be Werrason's Kibuisa Mpimpa also arranged by Alfred Nzimbi but alas the band broke up due to Werrason's alleged financial mismanagement which caused the band members to be playing for free forcing JB Mpiana who was getting wealthy to start paying the musicians himself and that is how he ended up with almost the entire band when Wenge Musica finally broke up. Werrason finally released his first solo album Kibuisa Mpimpa in 2001 after the break up of his union with Didier Masela and Adolphe Dominguez( as Wenge Musica Maison Mére) Werra was now promoting himself as ''Werrason and Wenge Maison Mére as ''Musica'' was retained by original founding father Didier Masela.

Almost all the former Wenge musicians you ask attribute the split of Wenge to financial mismanagement by Werra and to some degree the personal ego of not only JB Mpiana but the other leaders of Wenge Musica but it was the success of JB Mpiana that was the final nail in the coffin as it was at that point that jealousy got worse so it  was not entirely JB's fault that he started paying musicians when someone else was chewing the band's money.

and like werra himself admitted sometimes masela had to come to his house  and force him to give him some money otherwise he would not leave,and he was imitating masela's voice to perfection

he was singing with fudji and co more than the team of alain mpela and co,and one day he was singing jdl took the microphone off him and told him to go back behind the stage with ppu's and in general he was not accepted as at that time  it was not easy coming from brazza and settling into a kinshasa group
yeah jdl is same age almost with the likes of kusangila,titina,manda chante and co,indeed he was brought in as alain back-up that whole team of europe guys( boguys,bikou,him an mukena) were basically coming as back-ups they it changed when bcbg used more than 4 singers on stage

yeah what was difficult for tutu was doing animation for a whole concert,because in staff london and promise musica he was singer and was doing animation sometimes,and sometimes it was mboshi so he had to adapt to doing animation only for a whole concert
if i remember well what he said, he said he was losing his voice quickly,notice ferre had the same problem

Just like what happens now, you don't just join a Congolese band and get the number one spot, you play second fiddle to the person that has been with the band all along. Tutu was never an ataluku but the fact that they sent him to the ataluku section means he proved to them that he can do as an ataluku as well and 2 years later then unleashed him on the album Pentagone and as archos has said it was a turning point because Tutu changed the style of animation, in the end it was Roberto playing second fiddle until he lost his voice due to a throat problem and effectively retired and has never come back.

One thing in common here is that all leaders are selfish but another thing coming out is that the strength of Extra Musica was with Roga and if I may repeat what I said earlier is that Roga knew the weakness of his colleagues and used it to his advantage and sent them parking. Depending with how Roga replaced his colleagues, to me he is a genius because he managed to replace them even more perfectly. If you look at RAv4, Kassumbalessa,Dido and Juventus all are excellent singers far much better than some of the original members. At first my wife asked me if Dido was Dodou's younger brother,perfect replacement of Dodou.

yeah dido sounds and even looks like copa when he was in extra(when he did not have that " leader weight" LOL)
espe bass also deserves credit for that team he was the one prospecting in brazzaville quarters and brought most of them to roga,only juventus  arrived during a public test and was picked by roga himself
i think espe and ramatoulaye are still in extra because they cooperate with roga well and are not a threat to his authority

no,he still with roga,the whole team of sorcelerie kindoki is still there,apart that espe bass has some freedom outside the group
