No comparison in my opinion. Koffi stopped making timeless rhumbas in the 90s. At parties, DJs prefer Koffi’s generiques as opposed to his rhumbas and then play songs like Couer d’artficiel, Eau Benite etc. Legit rhumbas. It’s like comparing apples and oranges.

Congolese Music / Re: FALLY’S BERCY IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

I don’t care what anyone says, I’m hella proud of him.

Crowd is really into it; he's putting on a good show

Very impressive. I know some people criticized his line up, but his band is super clean and polished. You can tell they’re extremely disciplined, plus their vocal arrangements sound very old school, which I like! You can tell they’ve been working hard man.

Ah pasi eh. This is a major loss. Mimiche was probably the most prolific bassists in modern Congolese music. His bass lines will be rumbling through dance floors forever. Apema na kimia.

Congolese Music / Re: FABREGAS AND CIBLE

Here we go with this Fabregas sucks as an artist hyperbole again ::)  ::)
Brother no one here said Fabregas sucks... please don’t be his Pole Position (if you get what I mean  ;D :D)

Oh shut the hell up. You sound like a busta fam.   It’s a known fact Manzambi doesn’t like Fabregas. Just recent He clowned him for that Cameroonian rhumba award he won for Cible, said the man couldn’t sing and has said on more than one occasion Cible is a flip. Refer to his past posts, otherwise, me and you have nothing to talk about since you wanna bring in someone’s “pole” in the conversation.
Loool what is wrong with you, why are you being so aggressive for if you re read what I said I was only joking with you. Manzambi ain't here anymore so you don't need to be rude, and with respect don't you EVER tell me to shut up again and be respectful to others.

Calling me a “pole position” was a joke? You need to fire your joke writer then. Also this isn’t the first time you came at me crazy cuz. So before you talk about respect, learn to practice what you preach.
When have I come at you? I remember I backed you and told you to save your energy when it was that topic about Deplick and Fabregas and you were getting stick for sticking up for Fabregas so please remember that sir. It's not even that serious to get mad bro

Simple misunderstanding, I’m not trippin. I also didn’t realize this was an old post before all of the drama. This forum doesn’t run my life so I don’t have a beef with you bro. I just told archos that it’s squashed. I’ll be a man, take it on the chin and apologize. My apologies.  Nakomela bangi and go to bed, it’s been a long work day after a long vacation.

Pretty much sounds to me he’s defected.  Not smart. There’s no work here for Congolese musicians and with this being Trump country he’d be lucky to get those papers.

Congolese Music / Re: I AM LEAVING CONGOVIBES FOR GOOD

To other members, please be considerate of others so our unique community can be prosper. At the same time, as other as mentioned, it's not that serious when there's little disagreements of opinion. We go through worse in our day-to-day lives.

You know over the years, despite my periods of silence in recent years, I’ve watched this forum evolve into what it is today. Members come and go but after over 20 years, the core are still here. Many of are not actively commenting but they’re still watching. At one time we had Franco and Wenge posts dominated conversations. Many of us were young then being introduced to the new and exciting ways to keep up with Congolese music and yes there were disagreements, MANY of them. But the atmosphere that I see today in this forum has gotten extremely toxic. And no offense to other members here who represent other countries but I find it totally egregious Congolese publicly disrespecting other Congolese on here, as if Congo doesn’t already have its own problems with polemiques.

This is one of the few, if not the only English speaking forum dedicated to Congolese music and it’s a shame that people feel they can’t openly express their opinions without being unfairly attacked. Even myself I’ve taken a back seat, I’d rather watch than be attacked because I don’t agree with the general consensus. Granted, my contributions today aren’t nearly as influential or meaningful as they were say 10 years ago, but I’d like to still think I have some kind of voice. It’s also sad that important contributors feel as if they don’t belong. I’m the early days, Europeans were heavy contributors and it was appreciated. But it’s refreshing to see posters who are right there in the mix, I like to call them the forum journalists . I sincerely hope Manzambi would reconsider.

Congolese Music / Re: THIS IS WHAT I FEARED WITH ROBINIO

Rest In Peace Ndombolo. Thanks MTV Africa, Canal + Afrique, Trace Urban and BBblack for influecing the youngsters and dj's of Kinshasa to kill our music.

Now I'm hoping that about a messias from Europe coming to Kinshasa with an album to save Ndombolo, like the way Karmapa came with Je m'Appelle Toi to, giving rumba a new breath. We are lucky that those who are born in Europe aren't really obessed with Nigerian/Urban music, but the problem is that they aren't taken serious and don't now how to make Ndombolo commercial, switching then  often to Afro-trap, Coupe Decale because its easier. Maybe that Awilo can coach them how to do it.

I agree with all of this. When you do music like this, you dilute what the Congolese music ancestors passed down. I wish these older heads would get back to financing and mentoring young street bands. The sound is dying with our musicians.

Les Jumeaux Paradis - Ozokisi Motema

Vodacom should be releasing these songs digitally. Some of these talents are REALLY good.

Congolese Music / VODACOM’S BEST OF THE BEST 2019
« on: November 25, 2019, 20:28 »
I am surprised we’re not talking about this show. Vodacom has been doing a show like American Idol in Congo for a while now but no one is talking about it.  I watched some performances from last season and they were pretty good. Not sure who won last season but the talent this year isn’t bad at all. Especially the first few that I saw.

Abdallah - Pesa Makambu

This song is right here is fire and I see it as an open challenge to Yo Pe. The kid even has the backing of Bill Clinton so I’m curious to see if he’ll overshadow the other contestants due to his popularity rising.

Stone Zevoice - Mfuidi

P. James - Na Ko Bala

I love that the show is diverse but some of these guys have some great rhumbas especially the two above.

The judges panel also has credibility with M’Bilia Bel helping to usher in the new era.
