I forgot about the possibility/inevitability of almost an entire band staying in Europe. Maybe there was some behind-the-scenes drama we don't know about that resulted in this lineup staying behind.

You think he's still gonna do a clip for Afsana? It's one of the more popular songs from Formule 7, so not giving it a clip would be a missed opportunity.

Droit de Veto has the most iconic use of the 'A Kibinda!' animation, which you can find after the 2-minute mark. I know that for some of us young ones, it was our introduction to this cry (and Belo Belo).



As for me, my favourite use of 'A Kibinda! Eeeh!' is the opening minute of Main dans la Main by Defao.



I also like this as well.



On 2:29 and 5:23. If you listen to anything from late 1998 to mid 1999, you might come across that cry, as well as some other ones that were popular during that period (Belo Belo, Pe na Pe, even Yungana and Ndombolo).

Well…. This isn’t entirely surprising:
1) Nigerian diaspora is the largest from Africa and actively promotes its heritage.
2) English: the world’s lingua franca, even a few catchy English lines are enough to entice listeners. Nobody cares about French!
3) afrobeat (in all its guises) is on the rise, or at least is catchy & appealing! What’s the point of 5-10 mins of mumbling rumba when you can have 3-4 mins of catchy & danceable Afrobeat??

In the end; Davido, Burna Boy etc can have exactly this concert in Houston, Toronto or Sydney but Congolese are destined to community halls of Brussels or some random places in Paris! Congolese music (to my chagrin) is longer held in high esteem!

You forgot another thing: Nigerians aren't too busy dragging each other down, acting like only one of their artists can be at the top.

Its a typical mid-90s booklet of African artists.

I feel like 5/4 songs in this album being fillers. Koffi Olomidé is an artist who needs to be congratulated because of recording solo-album of 10, 11 & 12 songs for a long period without having fillers in it. I wonder if it was really Bozi's intention to record a solo album in this period. Bana Saint Gabriel is a better album.  It was in this period that Interpol of Kofi Alibaba, Sadico, Trocadero and Micha Brown got created right ? Their album interpellation was a succes in Europe but now its impossible to find it back.

Its a shame that Bozi didn't let his whole band participate to his album and the following one. This would have more fire if he brought Lapino instead of punishing him. It was from here that he wasn't brining the whole band anymore to Europe and mostly bringing ngulu's. In the credits there are only Deo Brando, Janvier Okota, Mi-Flo and Betty Biss as bandmembers the rest being session artists. Anyway, its only these day that I'm really paying attention to his albums of the 1990s. Back in the days I only focused on la carré magique, Big Stars, El Paris, Nouvelle Generation and a little bit Empire.

Les Refoules de Schengen was a good album, I didn't think there was any filler. I get what you mean though; the last three tracks kind of felt out of place on the album, but despite the lack of guitar (apart from half of Mina Plaisir), they didn't feel rushed. Michel Lorenz put a lot of effort onto these songs. Maybe Bozi understood that the album slowed down a bit, because Philippe Guez did all of Bana Saint Gabriel and it's considered to be one of his classic albums.

I wouldn't say this is a dead art, but I do agree that this is something we hear less of these days. To me, hearing a guitar solo at the end of a rumba is the cherry on top, something that makes a rumba and really makes it something that you can slow dance to.
