Congolese Music / Re: Zaïko Langa Langa - Live in Rotterdam (1999)
« on: September 02, 2020, 11:51 »
It has a wonderful performing of Top Premier Seben from 1:38:00. You can hear why Zaiko is one of the biggest.

Thank you!

Yeah,

That timeless classic song is known as Fievre Mondo, Originally done by Evoloko.
Zaiko has such depth that seems to last over many years.
They have maintained their style, adapting but retaining a core that ensures all fans do not lose touch.

Thanks for this Video, Man!

Congolese Music / Re: Rest in Peace Meridjo

This is very Sad.

One of the ever-green musicians that was able to adapt to all the changing styles and still was on top.

77X7 is one of my favourite Zaiko songs.

Rest In Peace Drummer Man.

2020 is indeed the year of Tears.

Now this is the Zaiko I know and Like!!!

Very nice.

It is indeed very difficult for a clean musician to make it in the business.

If it isn't the musician's dancers it is being ripped off.

I remember some time back in the 90's the group Loketo came to perform in Nairobi at a very popular cultural venue. We all trooped in, paid and patiently waited as the opening concert did their thing. After the opening act finished, the Loketo musician started  tuning and mike checks. Suddenly all the power and lights went off, pitch darkness for one hour.

In the dark, rumours started flying that the group has gone, the promoter is nowhere to be seen (literary!).

After one and half hours we gave up and trooped home.

This is the bane of most musicians in Africa : if you cannot compromise, you will suffer.

Vicky Longomba had a son in EA Known as as Lovy Longomba, who died tragically in a car accident while travelling from Nairobi to Dar es Salam, he was very famous with a very good crooning voice

Vicky Longomba (VicLong) is the father of Awilo Longomba and Lovi Longomba.
Awilo is still active in music, as a solo performer but he was originally a drummer in various bands.

Lovi Longomba made his way to Kenya via  Uganda and Tanzania, singing with various groups as session musician.
He made his name in Kenya with the Group Super Mazembe as their lead vocalist and later left to form his own group known as Super Lovy.
He settled and lived in Kenya until his untimely death and his name is carried forward by two of his sons, Christian and Paul who sing as the Longombas.

Congolese Music / Some old Tune from the Archives

This odd group was hilarious!

The same song was done by the comedian Mbuta Likasu:

Comedians occasionally came up with some gems.

Just goes to show the talent Africa has that needs to be tapped and channeled.

I remeber being absolutely stunned by how how the good sound quality was/is when it first came out - 21st century sound at the very end of the 20th century. The Steinberger solo licks, chorus, rhythm/mi-solo and the animations are perfect.

You are right Matebu.
This group was right up there in quality.
This album was so professionally done it was difficult to not like.

Very good album this,  as well as their other album Etat Major....

For my 5000th post, I present the official teaser JB Mpiana’s & Wenge BCBG’s upcoming album “Balle de Match”. It’s the first time I hear of this album; it is said that the project began shortly after “Soyons Sérieux”, released just a short time ago.

JB, a man who who’s done a tremendous job of remaining relevant and not being a source of mockery has reportedly stated that he doesn’t want to any loose momentum from heralded SS, an album that had perfect sound on each track and did not disappoint key fans.

Releasing a teaser surely means the album will be released very soon, without any delay, to get us through this pandemic. Enjoy.....

Bro,

Congratulations on your 5000th Post.
About the other matter, I stopped holding my breath a long time ago...

Hoping you are safe in these trying times...

The man who introduced west African music to a global audience. The legend has passed age 70. Cause of death not yet publicly confirmed. 2020 is such a morbid year

You Said it Brother!
This year looks like the year that clears all.

Yeke Yeke was a big hit in the 80's and opened the world for African stars.Rest in Peace trailblazer Mori Kante...

Congolese Music / Re: Academia - 100 Ans
« on: May 01, 2020, 08:41 »

Jesus christ the instruments on this song is sex to my ears Lebou Kabuya murdered this. our music has really falling off. I miss the old rumba/sebene days, I'm tired of the 17 rumbas/1 Generique style.

Ah, Quartier Latin Academia!!

This is the group that Showed Koffi Dust. There was fire after this album came out.
Unfortunately the group could not sustain the momentum and got distracted and let outside interference mess them up.

Such a talented lot they were. I still play this album when I go for a long drive.

Thanks for the reminder. Time to pick it up and listen to the other tracks as we hunker down.

Just came across this Zaiko Gem and could not help playing it three times today.
