These artist have to leave these dancers alone, those relationships are the cause of so much problems between group members kiekiekie!

Where do you think Deo SFR would be today had he not died?

I believe you're refering to Ocean's animations from the video towards the end.

Mawa trop, there must be a plauge of bad luck around Wemba and his band whenever they are beset by tragedy; it's always they're most talented members.

The first that comes to mind is Alpachino and his passing from renal cancer. I heard Papa Wemba didn't attend his funeral, is this true? Even though he left in 2007, I thought they maintained good relationship.

@ 9min 53sec for third video

We can't forget about the criminally short career of drummer Deo Sfr, if I remember he died after the release of Somo Trop but why?

You're welcome. From the 90s to the mid 2000s, the Wenge BCBG/QL/Wemba/Wenge MM were dominating album sales and promotion from journalist. If you remember, Alphatshino (RIP), Montana, Suzuki, Aimelia, and Fally Ipupa put out solo albums but were forced to join a big group when their albums flopped. The competition was too strong for one artist to be the face of an orchestra, especially when you leave your original band on bad terms.

Savanet should have picked better singers for AGB Stars; JF Ifonge was respected for his looks and his dancing abilities than as a vocalist. Just listen to his rehearsal video when they were preparing for Bercy of 99, he's very limited...and I'm being polite lol @ 3:16

Depitcho was the most popular member of Quartier Latin when he first joined them in 1998. He had a loyal fan base in Europe due to his previous work with Wenge El Paris. Koffi and Werrason actively tried to recruit him, but Koffi's staff ended up being successful.

He was Koffi's favorite and fans adored him, just check out how crazy the crowd went for him during the Zenith concert of 1998 @ 6 min 38s.

Even when he left Koffi in 2000, the band was mocking him in interviews to down play his influence within the group. It was only when he left, Fally had the space to become the new favorite.

Depitcho will team up with his friends Cesar Loboko and JF Ifonge to form their band AGB Stars, but the music recieved mixed response from fans and the group quickly broke up. It was because JF Ifonge and Depitcho had a falling out over a woman they were both dating.

Why does Mboka Liya have such anger against JB Mpiana after all these years? Wasn't it Werrason who treated him worst by slapping him during rehearsals and refusing to pay him properly?

Burkina Faso was supposed to be the soloist for Kipe Ya Yo generique, but his absence forced the group to rework the song with Ficcare interpreting his parts. If you notice, the production is underwhelming compared to the songs where Patou Solo plays lead guitar.

Pathy Moleso wouldn't have likely remained. If you recall his interview with Ado Yuhe, his passion for touring with Wenge slowed with the sudden passing of his child and along with the combatants giving him a hard time.

Is there a possibility that the Wenge BCBG team of Titanic will perform on the same stage together for a reunion concert the same way Koffi did the anniversary concert of Quartier Latin?

When Brigade was recruited into Masion Mere, he was already a proven atalaku based off his contributions to Effrakata, Affaire d'Etat, and Skol Longitima.

It's similar to Robert Horry winning NBA Championships with the Lakers then again with the Rockets when he swtiched teams. The Rockets signed a proven player, they didn't create a champion. The creative relationship between Brigade and Werrason is the same, in my opinion. I understand the point you are making, it was a good one.

I have no problem discussing the career failures of the remaining Quartier Latin singers, they didn't take advantage of donors and journalist encouraging them to focus on their own careers the same way Fally did when he recorded Droit Chemin.

Remember, journalists like Naty Lokole, Arsene Kamango, and a few other media people werw supporting Fally with huge promotion because they were tired of the old generation leaders monopoly within Congolese music.

As mvulusi96 mentioned earlier, these same journalist were trying to convince Soleil Wanga among the others to consider interviews solo careers, but those guys remained loyal to Koffi despite the fact that Koffi was slowly unsettling them with Cindy and les mineurs.

In my opinion, it is not the job of Werrason nor Koffi Olomide to promote their artist's solo careers. When these leaders give those singers a song on group albums, allow those boys to have dance solos at concerts, or appear in clips...they are promoting those singers.

That's how music listeners become aware of specific members within a group and pick their favorites. The artist has a responsibility to assess the level of interest they have received from fans, donors, and journalist during their time with Masion Mere or Quartier Latin. Once they can allocate that interest into a socieconomic network towards funding an album and tour, then they can leave the group and go solo.

Bouro Mpela, Soleil, and the others left without the proper connections to promote the albums they recorded so those projects all flopped and we see them struggling to regain fan interest since their departure of Quartier Latin.

If Werrason disliked Celeo so much and respected Brigade's talent so much, why not replace him with Brigade around the time of Solola Bien? I suspect Brigade tried out join the group but never was an official member; not even a reserve member.

Keep in mind, Werrason was actively searching for a relacement for Celeo before the concert of Bercy. Remember, the affair of Celeo and dancer Bibiche was a factor in the attempt to replace him with atalaku Doudou Kibinda and even Ocean of El Paris with the assistance of staff member Wasenga Kimpuni.

However, the group members of Masion Mere (specifically Ferre Gola and Bill Clinton Kalonji) fought hard on Celeo's behalf and he managed to remain with them until Sous Sol

I'm surprised people didn't think Droit Chemin would be successful. Fally always stole the show in concerts with his dance solos, he had great songs in the group albums of Quartier Latin, and had a media friendly personality that journalist like...that pretty much the reciepe for a great solo artist!

@mvulusi96

Honestly, Pepe Kalle made the right decision. Could you imagine how silly Empire Bakuba would look with old guys like Papy Tex, Djodjo Ikomo, and the like doing the dances of ndombolo and the other popular dance cries of the early 2000s? Kiekiekie!

Even the classic group Victoria Elison incorperated younger recruits to keep themselves creatively fresh! Same with Bana Ok uses Oliver Tshimanga and other younger guest musicans..

Who was the true leader of Delta Force after Pepe Kalle? I thought it was Gode; he mixed the albums and edited the clips.

1482
@mvulusi96

Why did Djuna Mumbafu leave Delta Force? That band could easily have reached the hieghts of Olympia and Bercy if they remained a unit! He stalled his own career by going solo, I'm certain Pepe Kalle would have wanted them to stick together.

I remember that Empire Bakuba was not supportive of Pepe Kalle's decision to create Delta Force. Was his intent to replace the older member or did he just want to manage an offshoot group to better compete with the Wenges and Quartier Latin?

@Bohemian Rhapsody

I did some digging, it was Alain Kabemba (not Papy Louange) who did some spiritual attacks againat Gesac during Sponsor. They were competing who would be the main falseto atalaku

Can someone tell me about this album? I heard Felix Wazekwa struggle to put this album together, is this true?

This is the first full project by Felix that I enjoyed, the soloist Hono Kapanga and Bijoux Depaulga really brought personality to the sebene that was generally missing in Sponsor.

In my opinion, Sec Bidens interpreted the popular rhythms of ndombolo without bringing anything special which is why the album was quickly forgotten.

By the way, whose the other atalaku aside from Gessac and Papy? He disappeared rather quickly.
