Title: REVIEW- FALLY IPUPA AT THE APOLLO....
Post by: Matebu on July 14, 2019, 05:45
My god... if I knew I was going to a Tokoos Live concert in acoustic with a skeleton F’Victeam band I would’ve stayed home and not wasted $200 and 5 hours.

Weakest concert I’ve been to for a big star by a long shot. Him giving a birthday shoutout to Koffi made me missed Koffi in his prime - he didn’t disappoint his audiences. Too much people standing around for a Congolese concert.

The concert actually started with an instrumental of Sweet Live for 15 minutes (I kid you not) because he was running late. No sebene until 6-7 songs after, which was Original - don’t really count that as a sebene either.

The sound was poor as if none of the instruments were tuned at all. The solo was completely inaudible and Fally’s mic wasn’t working when he first came on stage.

The concert was abruptly cut short at 23:15 - incidentally with the Droit Chemin sebene playing. He said a quick bye and left. Some women were disappointed because he didn’t play some of the songs they wanted.

Since the sound was bad Im not going to upload clips on my YT channel like I did his last NYC concert ls 2 years ago.

Two positives:
Arnaud Madruma did a good job on drums and some of the women in attendance were extremely fine.

I mean, just look at who he selected

Please note, I tried not to sound like a “hater”, but the very concert was just disappointing overall. Just a lack of creative effort and professionalism from a big star like him. Waste of an iconic venue

Like the concert, my time meeting him for the first time in a long time was cut short. Thanks Garry Iwele for the link up. I actually had the question thread open to ask your questions. Will give answers to he very limited questions I asked in the morning

My cousin told me the EXACT same thing. I’m worried about the Bercy concert now especially if he selects the same lineup. Looks like Jdog called it right

I'm glad I never decided to go to one of his concerts. I want to hear sebenes like the old days. That is sad. Especially for $200.

Bro, Bercy will be a another waste of a venue. His creativity limitations were on full display last night. I’m probably going to sell or get a refund for my ticket

When you go to a concert and end up liking the artist less than afterwards then there is a huge problem. He’s lost motivation and wasn’t even trying.

I also got annoyed when he went on and on with the El Marabiocho... el picici.. and so forth nonsense. And if you’re asking the crowd « Est-ce que ça va » after every song it means something is not clicking.

I paid for second row seats then the MC  said everyone can come to the front next to center stage and stand before he got on stage, which made me think “why the hell did I pay so much for these seats”. Never again.

Next time I want to see Ferre, Héritier, or even Fabregas perform here with the same opportunities they’re not getting. Below are how concerts are supposed to be organized

I feel your disappointment. As the leading man of the 5th gen, Fally should know better, especially since he was playing at the Apollo of all places.

One of my other relatives bought us tickets to Bercy after hearing you and my cousin talk about this show and seeing how monotonous and boring Fallys shows have become I might have to sell my ticket or give it to someone else.

It’s a USA tour.... this review is based off of one show... I’m sure with Bercy he has to put his all into this performance.... Most US promoters for the African acts don’t respect African artist, almost like a brush off; sadly... I’m sure when he performs in Cedar Rapids some bullshit will happen with the promoters and organizers.

Its the artist who has to perform. The promoters do not tell a musician how to do a show. He needs to up his game.

Exactly. The promoters have nothing to do with how the artist’s performance is run. His Washington DC show was also lackluster

his fans are praising him on facebook and youtube, like it was the best show ever and facebook-pages like La Mama are mocking Ferre Gola for performing at weddings (calling it Stade de France) and JB Mpiana performing at fancy-fairs.

I think that Fally Ipupa main goal was just to sold out the Apollo Theater. Fally lacks motivation because there isn't really someone who could challenge him. He's already dominating Congolese music-scene 5 years long without any competition. If won those BET Awards back in 2015 and received a gold record for the Tokooos-album then we would not have drinked water. Things would have been different if Ferre Gola and Heritier Wantanabe could perform in Europe. I think that he still sticks with Atele and co, because nobody openly complains about his musicians and no one of those youtube-journalists make those analyse-videos (Vicent Tshiluizi, Franck Stemay, Ken Mpiana, etc.) about it. Also most people don't really care about that, they only focus on Fally.

i dont understand why a  majority of current media and social pages boost fally even more like that, just by 2013 the guy had a career millions of artists would dream of,he did not need extra support from those things to show how good his career has been so far, and even more of belittling other artists to praise him even more, thats very very very low,but he does like it himself and pays some of them
the guy could retire now if he wants having done a looot of good things but does he really need that
yeah people do not realise it but competition makes good thing you do even more special, you'll see that atele and co will return in a very different way to for example how maison mere returned from bercy tour, because there is not another person who went toe to toe with them, fally's fans are bragging about his supremacy but they are not realising it is losing his "flavor" because he is too much in a world of his own
if i was him i'd to what jb and werra did ,with ferre

I have come to the position that Ferre Gola has a better team than Fally Ipupa and the music Ferre is producing recently is far better. The problem with Fally Ipupa is that he has transformed his Congolese music to Afro-pop as a priority. This is hurting his career since the die-hard Congolese music fans are not interested anymore. The last show he did in Zambia, Lusaka was probably my last in principle that he changes the tactic.

I warned  you guys... I really want to say  i told you so ... oh  f it ..... I told you you sooooooo. Il fallait pas a zonga chez koffi .. Y'all wait and see . koffi will  regain his success again little by little we will be forgetting  about this punk. Jb is so smart  he  backed off ... He stayed away from any friendship attempt with koffi .fally will end up getting kicked off from his current label if he does not realise that the path he is follwing is the  wrong one  just watch ...  He really must humble himself  and stop acting stupid.

Ah Fally. It's good that this review is coming from someone as neutral as @Matebu. I have always said it's one thing to do one or two cross over songs (so called world music) in a rumba album but it's another thing for someone who gained fame for a certain genre to completely abandon it for another. From where am standing, it seems to me that Fally was not interested in releasing a rumba album after Tokoos he was basically forced by the hard core fans that's why he did that Control album but still goes on promoting songs from Tokoos album whenever on tour. So I guess people gotta get used. Sad to read such reviews from someone widely regarded as one of the leaders of his generation. The only thing going for him now is that his direct competitors are not in a position to tour places such as Europe so he has an edge.

Yeah, it’s just unfortunate. I’m at the point where I just want to listen to good music doesn’t matter who. Not going to waste my time trying to like what I perceive as bad music

Fally is just waaayyy too full of himself - I felt it’s gotten worsewhen I briefly met him. I think to a degree higher that Koffi or Wemba, because they had to really prove themselves. Not saying Fally hasn’t, but he’s definitely didn’t go through the hurdles they went through

Of course, we all know this, but the affirmation in real life just leaves a bad  and lasting impression. I still remember meeting him for the very first time in 2001 during Koffi’s US tour in NYC. He was a quiet shy guy then.

Masta @CM the review is coming bro, kiekie

I think it's his more high-profile, international status that has made him complacent.

Highly doubt that was Mpondolo as he was not a diehard QL fan. I’d put my money on Haha Le Prof.

As for the show, I was going to sell drugs to attend the DC show because my wife wouldn’t let me put it in the budget. Glad I didn’t bother especially if he’s still promoting Tokoss, that album was garbage. He must’ve thought that R. Kelly feature was going to get him further exposure but Kellz career was beginning to wane at the start of the MeToo movement in America and then the Lifetime documentary and subsequent arrest by the CPD and then Feds, Fally should let that era go and disassociate himself. Kings get knocked off the throne and younger guys like Fabregas are waiting.

I also feel he felt forced to really do the rumba album because he was starting to be talked bad about over the fact he was not even performing anymore in kin and drc for well over a year,so he first forced kin's public to accept tokoos by doing a couple of concerts in DRC and it worked with kin's wealthy europe-wannabe young guys who eat live breathe the occidental life, and the random kin guys who
aspire to be like those guys, then since he still received criticism from hardcore rumba fans he gave control and managed to install also a couple of songs then went back again to his life outside kin,and now he is preparing tokoos 2
honestly i dont really understand why he joined majors(except maybe bigger money) when he already had the shape of what he aspires to do(one feet in rumba the other in so called world) in his works with monsoh

I don't think Fally would have been this big withiut a major label help. Just think about all the opportunities he recently had to slowly penetrate in the french market. Naza,Keblack,Booba,Aya Nakamura the ability to go im Ivoirian programs who has a wider audience since they are in French and Ivory Coast is known throughout Africa. I don't think that would be possible with only F'VICTEAM he inly did 10 times less (with most viewed songs) on Youtube confronting those with original,Bad Bpy and so on.

yeah what i meant is that i wish he did not got that much into it( remember he did decent already on that field with monsoh, bet's, a feat with some french artists already,he was already growing, sure the label opportunities boosted the whole thing but i am sure he could have become bigger too if he kept his system of mainly rumba then a couple of feats of so called world music, because african music has had quite some influence in french music of late
because now even in non-french speaking countries or french speaking ones, you can clearly see that he'd rather play mannequin in the main moments of his concerts rather than associe, then have atele to sing aya nakamura's part or junior mutukwa to do  naza and keblack rather than playing deliberation or catafalque at a key moment of his concert

His fans aren’t helping him either, can’t be praising him like God every minute, F**k Tokoss and Tokoss 2 I don’t wanna hear it smh someone needs to tell him

where were was Boloke,Tangofort and the rest of the dancers?I will not call this a flop if he had just 2 dancers next to him it my also have affected the line up cause most of his seben songs are powered by the choreography............as for line up I think him having hits from different genres leaves him not knowing what exactly to give the audience.
I believe in Fally he can lift the Congolese music ,he has done a lot for it especially in my country.I will just take this as one of those not onpoint shows like every other artist has.
