lol i sooo can imagine "batu mosusu baza bayuma, vieux wana tolongwa epa na ye alingaki aboma biso histoire vraieeeee bake lisusu kokutana na ye alors que aloba pona ko kanga lipungupungu il faut kotia soyi"
by the way, papa rolls said that rolly mayemba is not welcome at the anniversary because the message he said about recruitment never came from koffi at all
jf did an interview with EMS(that warrior press guy with nose piercing) and he said that koffi and cindy have already killed mbilia bel spiritually and it was not them on stage at ING,it was a mermaid impersonating mere mbilia in the body of cindy hence the dancing(i swear he has not follow the cindy of 2010 2015 who was establishing herself as an important band member and cementing the bases of her love with koffi because she was dancing already, she then stopped when it became too obvious when koffi came out with the grey beard)

I did find it strange that Koffi would send Rolly of all people to Kin to recruit musicians when he originally ran away from the group in 2007, Asso or Eric Tutsi are more suited for that role.

In the interview JF Ifongé did with Ems, he changed the version of Depitcho's departure. Three or four years ago, he went hard on Depitcho because of him becoming close to Koffi and calling JF witch. So because of Depitcho's interview he went once again hard on him and said that Depitcho left because he didn't want Cesar Loboko to receive the same amount of money like him after having performed their first concert at Stade Charletty with Defao, Wemba, Emeneya and co.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsUyJwJAI9s&t=6048s

But now JF Ifonge came with a different version, saying that fans in Kinshasa were waiting for them with the succes they had and that that Koffi kept calling him to return back to Quartier Latin. After seeing that he didn't succeed to convince JF Ifonge, he sended Reddy Amisi to them to let convince Depitcho to leave AGB and return to Quartier Latin. Depitcho then made his luggage ready to return back to Kinshasa with Quartier Latin only to discover that they already went back to Africa and Depitcho calling Koffi, Koffi then taking the phone and saying that he had to talk with Fally. After receiving that 12 he tried to return to AGB Stars. But when he arrived at their headquarter,  JF Ifonge, Cesar and rest chased him away for betraying them.

Seeing always talk about his time in Quartier Latin and about AGB, when it's about to attack Depitcho, made me conclude that he's still frustrated that he had never sung in Attentat, while he had left Europe for that and that he failed to succeed with AGB Stars, wanting to blame it on Depitcho.

Lol I don’t believe this version, because Fally was still a nobody by the time the group was returning to Africa after the Bercy tour, it would make more sense for Koffi to tell Depitcho he had to talk to Champion, Mamale and co unless it was a purpose 12. But maybe Koffi called Depitcho back to split AGB stars because he didn’t want them to have a chance to succeed after the trauma of academia especially since he just got Bouro back.
AGB was a flop did they even have any concerts? I remember seeing a picture of Depitcho dancing at one of their concerts which was part of a festival and the review said their part was good and they had the QL sound.
If JF wasn’t suspended and was able to sing in Attentat then who would’ve been left behind in favour of JF? The attentat singing line up was perfect.

It’s a good question. Everybody in Attentat’s line-up were far better singers than JF Ifongé. I don’t think Koffi would have left Lola Muana behind for JF, because Lola Muana was one of Koffi’s favorites alongside Fally and Depitcho. Maybe Spino or Jipson Butukondolo. But Spino was already known for his many TV appearances with Victoria Eleison and Koffi gave him the nickname of the Brazilian soccer player Romario, since he had to play next to “Ronaldo” (Depitcho) in the attack. Those lists were so difficult to make. I am sure Koffi was getting headaches when putting together the list for Attentat and Bercy.

Apart from backing Général Défao in two concerts (Luxembourg and Strasbourg), AGB only had one other major event, which the concert at Stade Charléty, where several artists performed (Papa Wemba, King Kester Emeneya, Général Défao, etc.). After the concert, they immediately split up with rumors spread that it was over women. Some said JF Ifongé had slept with one of Savanet Depitcho’s girlfriends, while others claimed that it was Savanet Depitcho who slept with one of JF Ifonge's  the girlfriends. However, in one of JF Ifongé’s interviews, he said the story about him having slept with Depitcho's girlfriend not being true and that Depitcho needed to stop to spread those stories and that the conflict was  about Depitcho not wanting to receive the same amount of money as Cesar Loboko.

It’s a shame that AGB never recorded an album. It would have been interesting to hear the result. Because most people in Europe didn’t see them as singers, but just as dancers and despite the big buzz that their departure created, people weren't believing that they would go far.

if agb were serious they could have been a force like academia, because i remember they started recruiting in kinshasa with rocky blanchard and late ondo, and there was guys like cousteau lufuluabo "mopiwi" and co
i heard jimmy houetinou was ready to work with them, they could have had some nice west african audience like when jf was solo, and how he is trying to do now with jordan kusa

I wonder what agb would've been like if Jordan, Fally, CNN and Mustapha joined them. Because both Depitcho and Jordan said in interviews that a few musicians wanted to follow Depitcho when he left QL but Depitcho refusing and telling them it was their moment in QL, I think Depitcho was thinking about his future and wasn't sure about going solo. Even musicians like Asso and co were recruited for the group till they joined Depitcho's group until they left and joined Quartier Latin during the effrakata era

Fally wanted to stay in europe and joing AGB. Crazy. Who would have been the star in QL, if Fally left?

It would be Mamale. During the tour, Mamale was after Fally, Koffi's favorite in the singing section. He also stood next to Koffi in all concerts after Bercy until Bouro returned and he was the one who had the most vocal  in Force de Frappe.

If Jordan Kusa, Fally Ipupa, CNN and Mustapha had followed Depitcho, it would have seriously destabilized Quartier Latin, especially the departure of Fally and CNN. CNN animated Attentat on his own and had the "cachet" of Quartier Latin. I don’t see how Ocean could have filled that void in the remaining concerts. But they did well to stay in Quartier Latin, because leaving would have been artistic suicide for them, since they were still developing.

Wow i didnt know it. Thats very interesting. Thanks! Fally really did have luck with his decision. Btw why was Mamale forced out?

I don't know what the reason was. Koffi suddenly started playing mind games with Mamale. Mamale received a lot of 12s in Kinshasa. When the trip for Zenith 2001 came, Koffi decided to leave him behind. Koffi probably saw that he was becoming to big. In Quartier Latin, whenever someone grows too big, they always receive a 12s and eventually left behind for Europe-tours or Koffi trying to create a rivalery (for example Depitcho vs Bouro Mpela, Fally vs Bouro Mpela, etc.). However, I think that despite those 12s, Mamale would have made the Zenith trip if Deo Brando hadn't joined. Deo's arrival was a blessing for Koffi, as it allowed him to totally humiliate Mamale since they both had the same role. In an interview with Ado Yuhe, Mamale revealed that when he arrived in Europe on his own, he asked Koffi why he had been left behind. Koffi claimed that another bandleader, who was also dating Tabou Fatou like Mamale, asked him to do so. But I don't believe the reason Koffi gave to Mamale.

Champion, who was basically the number two of Quartier Latin and Koffi's favorite, also started to receive a lot of 12s. But this was mostly due to many in the band being jealous of Koffi’s affection for him and the way he acted like a boss since he was the chef d'orchestre. Different musicians began gossiping about him to Koffi in order to take Champion’s place as the boss’s favorite. After losing the chef d'orchestre role to Felly Tyson, the original idea was also to leave him behind. However, people close to Koffi convinced him not to so and to let him travel along with Île de Cambodge, fearing that he might join Wenge BCBG or Nouvelle Écriture and go hard against them, since Champion had a big mouth at that time

It's too bad Champion didn't stick with BCBG after he left Koffi. Champion seemed to adapt pretty well to the style of Wenge and he convinced with the concerts of Extra Musica International. I'm sure Seguin had something to do with him not staying with BCBG, you know he hated to share the drum kit.

According to Champion himself, he didn’t stay long in Wenge BCBG because apart from the boss, almost nobody in the band liked him. I don’t know exactly what happened, but he didn’t even finish the short tour BCBG had in Europe (2002). Instead, he showed up at Koffi’s press conference in Paris in the summer of 2002, where he announced his return to Quartier Latin.

When Quartier Latin arrived in Europe, Champion had to meet Titina and Cambodge to discuss how to share the roles. However, Titina and Cambodge didn’t want to have a third drummer. So when Champion came for the conversation, Cambodge immediately confronted him and since both men already disliked each other, it turned into a fight. Champion left the hotel angry and disappointed.

Shortly afterward, he also tried to meet Nyoka Longo to join Zaïko, but Nyoka Longo refused, since all the musicians who had come from Quartier Latin (Rocky Blanchard, Willy Bula, Rosette Kamono and the late Yoto Nkelani) had ended up disappointing him. This situation forced Champion to put his full-time music career on hold and start looking for another job, while in the meantime doing studio work backing different artists (such as Savanet Depitcho on his album Projecteur, and comedian Siatula on his album Affair Ngulu, among others).

With the boost he received from Champion's initial departure, the success of Effrakata and the subsequent tours, it's understandable that Cambodge would be very much against Champion's return.

I heard that Champion kinda forced Koffi's hand in being sidelined during the recording for Effrakata, wasn't he abusing the privilege of being #2 guy on Quartier Latin by showing up late to rehearsals? If you see their preparation videos for the album, it's Cambodge doing a lot of the drums and Champion chilling with the singers

Hahaha just say that I once said that Champion was abusing the privilege as Chef d' Orchestre ? Yes, it's true that he was sometimes exaggerating with his position, by acting like he was Koffi but not to an extend to kill the band. Many weren't just liking the way Champion became a bit big headed and taking his n2 role to seriously.

Koffi is the person who decides who has to drum. For example, when Champion joined. Koffi prefered him above Coco Tchomba and often asked Champion to continue, when he was on the drums. It had nothing to do with Champion being lazy. On another side it was also a way to promote Cambodge to the people living in Europe.

The conflict of Cambodge and Champion did not really had the do with the succes of Effrakata. Both guys were already not liking each other before the recording of Effrakata. There often confrontation between both guys. During Covid Cambodge said in an interview with Ado Yuhe that Champion spiritually attacked him when they were preparing Effrakata at Maman Amy's, also that Rocky Blanchard and Eric Tutsi adviced him to show the warts he had to Champion to counter it.

Champion participated to the recording of Effrakata, where he had to share the role with Cambodge. The thing was that Koffi wanted Cambodge to play two generiques, because he came with Kakol's drumming style. Champion couldn't accept that, walked angry away from the studio and also didn't start showing up anymore in concerts until the day he made the declaration that he had joined Wenge BCBG. Then when they were about to mix, Titina ended up by accepting the offer Koffi gave him to join Quartier Latin after that Wenge BCBG travelled without him to Canada. This made Koffi decided to erase Champion's contribution and let Titina play those songs (songs like Ravisse and Suivez le Guide). Although having joined Quartier Latin, guys like Fally and Jordan influenced Cambodge to not accept Titina, which led to several incidents. For example, Cambodge often not wanting to hand the sticks to Titina or sometimes openly disrespect him. Until this day Cambodge has sometimes moments in interviews that he ignores Titina or respects him.

When established band members disrespect new recruits, does the boss know? Like Babia vs Bouro, Savanet vs QL during Droit de Veto, and Amelia joining WMM...does the leader know the extent of their displeasure or is it a tension that eventually boils over?

Because you'll see videos where they'll deny sharing mics, instruments, or even the bodyguards will block new singers from rehearsals. Isn't that insubordination against the boss? You're basically saying, "you might of hired him, but he's not really apart of this orchestra". I would be nervous that too public s display of discord within the group could lead to suspensions.

I'm guessing that's why they had to unify around a chef or favorite member to bully someone out of the group to protect themselves from reprisal. Fally, Jipson, and a few others also were behind Papy Jah getting refused
Title: Re: SAVANET DEPITCHO ANNOUNCES HIS PARTICIPATION TO QUARTIER LATIN ANNIVERSARY

It's mostly when it's the other way around that the boss knows, because the boss wanting to force the veteran out. Like what happened to Didier Masela, Adolphe Dominguez, Kabose and Aimelia in Wenge Maison Mere. I believe that when established band members attack a new recruit, they know it as well, but they don’t do anything about it because they don’t want to lose the guys. The Babia vs Bouro situation wasn’t really a war. It was just Babia making micro-attacks (comments, a bit of bullying, etc.), but Bouro Mpela didn’t care, and when they came back from Europe, they became friends. Some new recruits have the chance to become immediately the boss favorite. Bill Clinton for example immediately started living in Werrason's house when he got recruited. The same for Bizima Kodos when he got recruited in Wenge El Paris, who started to live in Marie Paul's house.

In reality, Werrason didn’t really need Aimelia. It was just that he joined through Didi Kinuani’s recommendation. At that  time, Adjani wasn’t really giving the 100% anymore, so Aimelia gradually took his place. Didier Lacoste’s departure later gave him the chance to fully establish himself in Maison Mere. There were stories that Werrason wanted revenge for the comments Aimelia used to make on TV (like "ouais, ndenge ezali," etc.), how Aimelia bought the same car as him and how he used to downplay Maison Mere on TV when he was with Wenge BCBG. But people changed his mind. However, Aimelia did receive a lot of 12 from guys like Ferre and Baby Ndombe. There was a moment during their last concert of the Bercy tour in Paris, where Werrason, I believe during the song Coco Madimba, suddenly asked if Aimelia liked him and you could see from Aimelia's facial expression that he felt akward and embarrassed.

When the guys from Academia left, Koffi would often praise Depitcho and claimed that he understood why Sam, Bouro and others left. He would do the same with JF Ifonge, claiming on TV that Sam Tshintu didn’t want to accept JF Ifonge into Quartier Latin. In JF Ifonge’s recent interviews, he claims that Koffi wanted to use him to rival him against Savanet Depitcho, that they would dump Depitcho in Europe, since that leaving behind in Kinshasa would be to dangerous with the influence he had and that JF would take his role, once Depitcho had left. He also said that it was part of Koffi’s philosophy. When someone reaches the top, Koffi tries to diminish them by promoting someone else or creating a rivalry. I think what JF said is true, since that JF Ifonge had a profile similar to Depitcho’s. He wasn’t a sapeur, but he came from Europe like him and had that stage-presence.

Papy Jah’s case was more about guys like Jipson and Soleil Wanga not wanting a tenorist. Several guys joined Quartier Latin to do Babia’s role, but they left quickly because of the hard time they were given. Paparazzi and Lady Miyembe are the only known artists who went through that situation. Papy Jah could stay, but he was scared of Soleil, who asked him if he was using witchcraft and said he could do demonstrations. Fally later backed Soleil, fearing that Papy Jah would become Koffi’s favorite because of his voice being a bit similar to Ferre and him knowing how to dance compared to Mustapha, Babia and Eric Tutsi who had difficulties with. So, Fally confronted Koffi openly in the studio, saying that Koffi was copying Wenge Maison Mere by taking Kerozene to Europe just because he animates like Bill Clinton, Cambodge because he drums like Kakol and now him wanting Papy Jah because of singing like Ferre. Papy Jah then left Quartier Latin after that incident in the studio.
