Awilo is more popular in Southern Africa.Zimbabwe in particular.I had a group of ladies who were going for that from London.

I don't know, but in France, Awilo got the most fans in community of people from Benin & Cameroun. So maybe he could have filled the hall. Journalists like Cesar Ngadi & Addy Londole started to promote his event in the Congolese community. Awilo is so lucky that our music is down, 3 years ago he performed in Kinshasa. While 15 years ago, nobody would believe that he would day perform in a packed hall or somewhere with a big crowd. In 2004, he asked my cousin if he could announce his concert at Stade Velodrome de Kintambo and Grand Hotel Kinshasa and I had something like "is he dreaming or what". But those events got cancelled, because the concert-promoter wasn't serious.

Around 2004, he probably could have filled the hall. Mondongo had came out a couple months before, it had a pretty solid impact throughout the African disporia.

That will say nothing. Back in 1999 Kassav was finished but they played 2 days in a row in a packed Bercy. Ferre Gola was number 1 in 2010 with his album Qui Est Derriere Toi, but wasn't able to fill Zenith de Paris. It just your marketing-team and concert-promoter to do a good job.

Felix Wazekwa should have been more aggresive promoting his albums; the majority of his albums have that minimalist production that's great for live performances. He never played Bercy, LSC, or Olympia which is a shame because his old team could have been as big or bigger than Wenge and Quartier Latin if he was an aggressive promoter.

Did his group played at Parc des Princes? Because Papy Louange were mentioned the venue in Le Corps Humain around the 6 minute mark when he was switching between Gessac with animations. By the way, what is that cry at the end mean? Is he saying mboka mundele? It's hard to keep up with Lingala when atalaku talks because it so fast lol

Felix Wazekwa performed in 2009 at Olympia which was then voted as best concert of 2009. Then in 2010 he performed at Zenith de Paris. In 2002 he performed at LSC before finishing Yo Nani. Lol his band didn't perform at Prince des Princes hahahaha. Do you even know what Parc des Princes is ? That's PSG footbal-stadium, it has 50.000 seats.



But with the succes of Et Apres in Europe, I think he could have easily filled Olympia already at that time.

The animation is in Tshiluba and I don't really understand that. I only know a few words. Yeah,they are animating mboka mundele, they used a part of Mpongo Love's song, but I don't know the title anymore.

F**k those stupid owners for not letting Koffi perform there in 2001 that would've been hot if anyone could probably perform there today it could be Fally but I don't know.

I don't understand, why are the owners so resistant to Koffi Olomide performing there? Whenever they are approached for the utilization of their venue, they research the musican and I'm certain they saw the massive crowd he brought to for Olympia of 98 and Bercy of 2000. There's video evidence and media report to reflect his success! Hell, even CNN News did a piece on Koffi.

Keep in mind, he accomplished all of this through word of mouth promotion, while other artist have a major music label negotiating with television and radio markets for the same type of promotion.

You're right, if Koffi couldn't secure Parc des Princes off the success of those concerts and his albums (Attentat and Effrakata) then no other African artist could either...maybe Wemba. He is the only Congolese artist whose albums was recognized on the Billboard Charts, in terms of sales.

Yes, Kassav performed at Stade de France but that was in 2009 when those French bosses became cool and 2 years later you had that Nuit Africain-festival with Werrason, Fally Ipupa, Petit Pays, Meiway, Manu Dibangu, Magic System, etc. performing. That is a different era then the early 2000s. Ask to people living in France and those who work in the media and they will say that racism is very strong in the media of France. Don't forget that Kassav is a respected band in France and they come from the West Indies.



Koffi Olomide, his staff, his label Next Music and their connections put all their money to let Koffi Olomide perform at Parc des Princes back in 2001, but the administration of wasn't taking them serious. They came back in 2002, 2003 and 2004, but they were still refusing and them not giving a clear explantation. Koffi Olomide was then very dissapointed, said that it was unfair and that rascim is very strong in France in private, giving then mutlipate examples of him, other artists like Meiway, Alpha Blondy, etc. Back in the days French people in the media, business, etc. used to be very racist. Even for French-artists of African descent and those coming from the West-Indies, it wasn't easy. There was even a quota on putting black music on French radios and television which was lifiting around 2008/09. Guys like Kenzy, Passi, etc. were thinking back in the late 90s about making a black-television and radio, but it never came.
